ParticipantI know this isn’t really the right place to debate. Plus, I’ve only read the first four books and seen the show. I’m still trying to figure out the history. However, I understood it differently from you.
First, the house words having nothing to do with it. Those are just words, no more than “hear me roar” means anything for the Lannisters or “growing strong” for the Tyrells. It does speak to the ancient Valyrian traditions and how the Targs are literally connected to dragons (probably through a ritualistic blood magic that literally put the blood of dragons in them—it’s not clear yet) but her house words are not required to hatch a dragon. It’s not like Aegon the Conqueror, Visenya, and Rhaenys had to kill people and place their dragon egg into a fire for it to hatch. And the Targs afterwards certainly never had these sorts of ceremonies to hatch their dragons.
Also, I’ll say that words have meaning in this series, and often more than one meaning. There is some debate as to what the exact meaning of house Targaryen words “fire and blood” is.
MMD killed Drogo, but not Rhaego. Rhaego’s life was traded into the eggs–they quickened because of that. Fire was caused them to hatch but MMD’s life blood has nothing to do with hit. The eggs were already “alive”
In the GoT the novel, Daneryes says, “It is not your screams I want, only your life. I remember what you told me. Only death can pay for life.” I understood that to mean MMD’s death was a blood sacrifice that paid for the fossilized eggs being quickened again.

ParticipantShe does it. Not blood magic.
Isn’t it both? It required both “fire and blood.” Those are the house words for the Targaryens. A life for a life. Her husband, her baby, and Mirri Maz Durr all died, while three dragons were born.

Participant*wonders if she’ll have to pop RG on the hand* v_v Let’s all remember the rules. On a slightly off topic thing, I’ve heard this Danerys woman referred to as the Mother Of Dragons. As someone who doesn’t watch GOT, I have to know >> did she really BIRTH dragons or is it like some kind of metaphor or something?
LOL…nope. Short version: she used blood magic and fire to hatch dragons from fossilized eggs.

ParticipantGrowing up, I loved Cory and Topanga from Boy Meets World and now again on the spin-off series on Girl Meets World…same actors!
Also, Jesse and Rebecca from Full House. You can’t get much better than Jesse serenading his bride.
Also, Ariel and Eric were my first memorable Disney pairing.
Nowadays, I love Sheldon and Amy, as well as Penny and Leonard from The Big Bang Theory. 🙂
Also, I am really enjoying the new show Forever and the potential for Dr. Henry Morgan and detective Jo Martinez.
I also crack ship John Snow and Daenerys Targaryen, because they are the embodiment of A Song of Ice and Fire. (One day it won’t just be crack…it is known).
And last but certainly not least, Aragorn and Arwen from LOTR.

ParticipantNo, it’s 12 hours due to 408 being 2 hours long, and TVLine already confirmed Dec 15th as the mid-Season finale.
Ok. Thanks for that clarification. I guess I misunderstood.

ParticipantOf course, that is the last thing she would really want to do, it would be a nearly impossible decision even for most people. And Robin is certainly not making it easy. (Not to mention, he would most likely refuse any such offer.)
But it is, at least, an option.
SFG
edit: BTW, this is not really what I want to happen, It’s just a possibility that I have not seen considered.
I think that is a likely possibility at this stage. I think somehow Marian will be unfrozen, so that could be how if Robin takes a forgetting potion in order to save her. It would be a huge sacrifice for both him and for Regina to make, but I think she’d make it seeing how far she has come on the road to being a hero now. And as Henry has said, “Heroes have to make sacrifices all the time.” I also think in the end, Robin’s sense of honor and heroism will convince him to save his wife.

ParticipantBoth mid-season returns for S3 and S4 have used Bruce Springsteen as a reference.
Great catch! I looked up the lyrics just in case they gave any clues…
“Darkness On The Edge Of Town”
They’re still racing out at the Trestles,
But that blood it never burned in her veins,
Now I hear she’s got a house up in Fairview,
And a style she’s trying to maintain.
Well, if she wants to see me,
You can tell her that I’m easily found,
Tell her there’s a spot out ‘neath Abram’s Bridge,
And tell her, there’s a darkness on the edge of town.Everybody’s got a secret, Sonny,
Something that they just can’t face,
Some folks spend their whole lives trying to keep it,
They carry it with them every step that they take.
Till some day they just cut it loose
Cut it loose or let it drag ’em down,
Where no one asks any questions,
or looks too long in your face,
In the darkness on the edge of town. Some folks are born into a good life,
Other folks get it anyway, anyhow,
I lost my money and I lost my wife,
Them things don’t seem to matter much to me now.
Tonight I’ll be on that hill ’cause I can’t stop,
I’ll be on that hill with everything I got,
Lives on the line where dreams are found and lost,
I’ll be there on time and I’ll pay the cost,
For wanting things that can only be found
In the darkness on the edge of town. The part that really stood out to me is about people having secrets and how people try and keep them until they decide either to let them go or those secrets will drag them down. It’s interesting and seems to apply to the current story. Belle was keeping a secret about knowing Anna until she confessed it to Rumple and to Elsa. Rumple is keeping a big secret from Belle about the fake dagger and the sorcerer’s hat. Regina is keeping the secret about wanting to rewrite the book from everyone else other than Henry. Hook is keeping a secret from Emma about the deal he made with Rumple for his hand, as well as the secret about killing Blackbeard. Ingrid is keeping a secret about what happened to Anna from Elsa, as well as why she took away both Elsa and Emma’s memories of herself.
I read that the Frozen arc is going to be 12 episodes, rather than 11. (Can’t remember where I read that, but I did somewhere). So by 4×12 all of the big dark secrets that people have been keeping from one another should’ve come out into the open. And if people continue to hide those secrets, those secrets could potentially have the power to “drag ’em down” as the lyrics suggest. Also the last stanza seems to apply especially to Rumple. Ingrid said what he desires is beyond SB. But in choosing to keep secrets hidden from Belle, as well as seeking to gain power, he stands to pay a big price.

ParticipantSomeone wrote a little fic about Emma clutching the necklace, and I just read it so now I’m sad so I wanted to share the misery.
Lovely.
If only he was here. Neal. She knew she could talk to him. He would understand anything. He wouldn’t judge her, wouldn’t push her, wouldn’t do anything to hurt her, because he understood her. He knew her better than anyone.
Yet another instance of Emma being more in character in a fan story than in the show itself

Participant“Darkness on the Edge of Town” sounds like it has to do with something beyond the town limit. Ingrid’s ice magic is probalby going to be defeated by the mid-season finale, meaning that her ice wall will come down, freeing the characters to leave SB. The title could possibly also refer to a new villain coming to town from the big bad world.
A&E have confirmed that the search for the author of the book will take Operation Mongoose on a quest outside of Stroybooke.
Then in 4×7, Ingrid said that what Mr. Gold wants is beyond SB and that he could have the world. So maybe what Mr. Gold wants also has something to do with the author of the book. Could the sorcerer be beyond the town limit? Could the sorcerer also be the author of the book? Will Regina, Henry and Rumple eventually all team up?

ParticipantSo I was thinking more about the scene of Emma holding the swan necklace. Rumple said that “Sometimes, with enough love, ordinary objects can come to possess their own special kind of magic.” Could that swan necklace have a part to play in the story still? What other objects have we seen have their own special type of magic? We’ve see Snow’s engagement ring have a magic that led Charming to his true love in S1. We saw Belle’s cup be used as her talisman to help her regain her true memories in S2. Rumple also used Bae’s shaw to protect his memories in the real world. We saw the swan necklace travel realms in S3. That swan pendant likely has magic of its own.
Now in S4 we also have a few more “ordinary objects” with their own special kind of magic: the ribbons that Ingrid and her sisters wore and the snowflake necklace that Elsa gave to Anna. I don’t know quite how these ordinary items will impact the story, if at all, but I just find it interesting that Emma was clutching at her necklace just as her own magic was on the fritz.
BTS pictures show Elsa and Emma wearing the yellow ribbons that Ingrid and her sisters wore, so I’m guessing that Elsa and Emma are going to be affected by them, and not in a good way. Could the swan necklace Emma has and the snowflake necklace Elsa has help them overcome Ingrid’s influence on them? Both the snowflake necklace and the swan necklace seem to be imbued with true love magic, so it could be a thing. I *know* this is probably wishful thinking on my part, but I just thought I’d mention it after DSB brought our attention to Emma holding the necklace.
There was also this official ABC promo for S4 that JMo tweeted:

Now I *know* that the swan pendant is likely just being used as a symbol of Emma, the way say the sword is a symbol for David or the bow/arrow is for Snow, but I still thought it would be cool to use to support this totally-wishful-thinking crack theory."That’s how you know you’ve really got a home.
