ParticipantI have issues with the Hook abandonment thing. In 222 he never mentions his brother to Bae. But then suddenly in 305 he has a dead brother who died in his arms but no mention of a father who abandoned them. It’s either really inconsistent or a giant round about way of telling this story.
True, we never had mention of Liam until 3×5. However, we had hints of Hook’s abandonment prior to then. In 3×6, Hook told Emma he’d seen the look of despair in the eyes of the Lost Boys, because they’d be left alone. I think Hook recognized that look for the same reason Emma did: he’d once been left by his father. Hook told Baelfire in 2×22 how his father had abandoned him, too. However, Hook had the benefit of having an older brother to look after him, whereas Neal and Emma were truly lost children on their own without any older siblings to guide them.

ParticipantOh, good grief another abandoned child I hope not :
Well, Hook told Baelfire he knew what it felt like to be abandoned because his father had left him. We’ll soon see if Hook was telling the truth or not. I think he was, even if his intention was just to wheedle information out of Baelfire about how to kill Rumplestiltskin.

ParticipantDavid Goodman wrote “Think Lovely Thoughts” about how Malcolm abandoned his son Rumple. I think David was selected to write the story of how Killian Jones’ father abandoned him.

Participant“The Jolly Roger” is a most-definite nod to Hook’s ship. I think “Blackbeard” will actually be Davey Jones, the father of Killian Jones. Hook told Baelfire his father’s ship was the fastest in all the realms (“The Jewel of the Sea”), which is why I think we’re getting the name of the ship as the title. I think we’ll see more of Hook’s backstory as a child when his father abandoned him. I think the Jolly Roger was simply his father’s navy ship, and that his father was a captain of the royal navy just as Liam and Hook were (before going rogue). We’re also supposed to get Ariel in 3×17, so it’ll be interesting to see how she ties in, if at all, with Hook’s backstory.

ParticipantI can’t listen to the interview ………..did she say anything interesting aside from Ariel’s relationship with Eric? Thanks
No, there was nothing else of any relevance except what was mentioned in the first post of the thread.

Participantbut only the parts where Pinky and the Brain are interacting),
Who is this?
Pinky = Regina and Brain= Rumplestiltskin

There wasn’t magic yet in SB when she touched the book and got flashes of memory, so are we sure that touching the dream catcher couldn’t do the same thing, even in the land without magic? Maybe because the dream catcher has a hole torn in it, it won’t work properly? Maybe she’ll hold it and it’ll sorta flash, like it’s trying to do the thing that happened with Pongo, but it can’t connect properly because of the hole? Or maybe it would work, but would only show her memories that belong to Neal, which means she still has to drink the potion to get her own memories back?
Good point about Emma touching the storybook and then suddenly believing that all the stories in it were true. However, that event had to be accompanied by Henry’s asymptomatic “death” which had no rational explanation. That is why I keep going back to what Adam said about first Emma has to believe before she can see magic. For example, Emma’s lack of belief prevented her from seeing August’s leg turn back into wood. I sort of think Emma must first witness something that wouldn’t otherwise be explainable (e.g. how there could exist a photograph of Neal and Henry since she thinks Neal doesn’t even know about having a son). So, perhaps a photograph of Neal and Henry is what makes Emma think something supernatural is going on and then she touches the dreamcatcher and sees a vision of meeting Neal in for a second time in Manhattan. That way she starts to think that maybe she did forget something major, so she then goes to Hook and drinks the potion in good faith, which is what completely restores her memories.

ParticipantWhat if that’s why no one would keep Emma, weird accidents kept happening around her that freaked out foster families???? Of course after a while a foster child stops trying and become harden and rebellious. I bet her last years in the foster system was spent in a teen girl’s group home. Where she learn the tricks of the trade.
It could be why she was handed from home to home. Emma causing lights to flicker isn’t that odd though, because it could be explained away as the electricity being on the fritz if it happened just once or twice. However, it if happened repeatedly whenever little Emma had a tantrum, then I could see foster parents being freaked out and sending her back.

That could be the case, sort of how Harry Potter was able to do magic when he felt threatened and could hear snakes speak to him, even before he knew he was a wizard. Yet, what I wonder is why Eddy would make it sound like magic wouldn’t be what makes Emma believe, unless he was trying to conceal it from us. Yet, maybe that time she gave birth and the lights flickered really was just a one-time event. I wonder though if Emma had a history of odd events in her life before she arrived in SB in the pilot and the light blew a fuse when she slammed her car door. That’d be interesting to find out.

ParticipantRumplesGirl wrote:Yeah I don’t get that. magical objects retain their magic outside of SB. Hook’s poison hook for instance, or Rumple’s shawl. They are magical objects that were imbued with magic and thus retain their magical properties. Emma IS magic. She doesn’t need to create it, she simply is. Which is why when she gave birth all the lights flickered.
While it’s true that magical objects can maintain their magical essence, it’s the second part of what Eddy said is the real clincher, in my opinion: “She is strong, but if we remember in Season 1, you have to believe in magic to see it.” So even if Emma were strong enough on her own to generate magic (because she embodies it), she’s still going to need to believe first, and then she could see magic. While I think Emma’s talisman is the dreamcather, I think it’ll take something else in addition to it to get her to trust Hook enough to drink the potion. I think that extra ingredient might be a photograph of Neal and Henry taken around the time of “Manhattan” before Hook stabbed Rumplestiltskin.
