Basically, it’s pretty good odds that Neal wouldn’t be able to get through to her. I’m sure he’d have loved to be the one who went, because he’d be desperate to see her and Henry again, (those spoiler pics showed him seeming upset over something, and this may well be it) but if the aim is to get her to listen, he’s not the best bet.

And if she doesn’t listen to whoever gets sent, then Emma never believes again, and she’ll never make it back to her family. It’s history repeating, Neal doing something that hurt him personally, (in the first instance leaving her, and in the second instance not going to her and sending someone else, Hook no less, in his place), to ensure that the end result will be that she can get back to her family.

Once again, Neal makes the selfless decision with regards to Emma, putting her happiness in the hands of another, a rival no less, for the sake of her family no less!

I’m really not convinced that that’s their plan. Since the NL kiss we’ve seen her play it down as “just a kiss” to both Snow and Hook himself, we’ve seen her not show any interest in kissing him again, meanwhile she’s repeatedly talked about still being in love with Neal, we didn’t get any indication that she sought Hook out right after they got baack to SB, but she did eventually decide to go meet Neal for lunch, we saw her make a conscious effort to say goodbye to Neal, but didn’t approach Hook at all, she responded with the bland reaction of “good” when Hook said he’d think about her every day, and when he attempted to kiss her again, there was no TL magic, and she kneed him in the nuts, and he actually admitted defeat.

All great points! I love how CS is already declaring victory, despite the fact that Neal said, “This isn’t over. I’ll see you both again.” I must be watching a completely different show than CS fans, because it seems like we read things so differently. I realize it’s a matter of subjectivity to a certain point, but the fact still remains that Neal and Emma are going to see each other again. It’s not over! It’s pretty evident from where I sit that Emma is still unclear on Hook but that Emma and Neal have unfinished business!

To me, it seems like they’ve been consistently writing CS as being very one sided, while exploring the fact that Emma does have deep (if conflicted) emotions (including love) for Neal. That means that it would be a complete and random 180 if Emma now decided to be in a relationship with Hook, and I like to think that they wouldn’t write something so unbelievable and out of character for their heroine, considering the opposite storyline they have actually put effort into constructing.

While I think CS will still be explore more, I think that if anything, Emma spending time with Hook will show her just how unsuited he is for her. He’s still in love with the idea of Emma, the image of the woman he’s built up in his mind. Every time Emma and Hook have spent any significant amount of time together, it’s always been under distress in a far off land where adventure and danger lurk behind every corner. And guess what? Danger can be exciting and cause the adrenaline to rush, which many people confuse with feelings of “being in love.” Hook’s experience tells him that love means sailing off together on a ship without any cares or responsibilities. Yet, Emma and Hook have never really even really spent a “normal” day together on dry land. In fact, I think if Hook actually were to spend a good portion of time in SB or NYC without any pressing danger to face he’d eventually grow bored out of his mind! By contrast, Emma’s idea of a happy ending clearly is just having a normal life with her son doing normal thing like making him breakfast. Those little family things are the kind of thing Emma and Neal both want and partially why I think they’ll get their everyday “happily ever after” real-life fairytale together.

Neal and Emma are definitely going to have one more thing to bond over when they reunite…she’s going to understand way better what it feels like to give up everything you love because it’s part of something much bigger that saves everyone else. The only difference for her is that she’s with Henry. That type of sacrifice and their past history isn’t something she’s been able to talk to him about yet but she will for sure be able to see his perspective a lot better after this experience. I will rage and storm Vancouver if they don’t cover this with Emma & Neal at some point in this second half of S3.

That’s an excellent point which I hadn’t even considered! Emma walking away from her parents for the sake of Henry very much mirrors Neal walking away from Emma for the sake of her parents! I think the writers are clearly going to give Emma and Neal even more empathy and understanding for one another in the future knowing what it means to make huge self-sacrifices of the people they love. Emma had to do right by Henry when this new curse came just as Neal had to do right by Emma when the first curse hit so she could save her parents. The only difference is that Emma got to have Henry at least, whereas Neal had to struggle on alone after the first curse hit.

While it is not much, the little things add up.  Emma was afraid that being the savior meant no day off.  She just had a year off! Neal knew that they would see each other again.  He had hope, which Emma needed.  She did not want to leave and I agree she was already teary-eyed and upset before Hook approached her, so a lot of emotion carried over.  She still had not rejected him at this point so what else could she say?  Emma never had time to sort through what she feels.

They do add up which is why I believe Neal will always best fit Emma’s dream of a home-life and family. True, Emma got a year off, but she also didn’t have her newfound memories of Neal post-curse of Hook to evaluate how she feels. For her, it will have only been like a day when she regains her true memories. Nevertheless, her fake memories will give her some perspective about the life she wishes for her and Henry: a normal life together without magic or constant threats. It all comes back to which man’s dream line up with Emma’s dream.

When magic comes in, these painful things are going to happen, and Neal crossed worlds to be with Emma.  I have no idea why he is not the one to go find her in NY but the writers better have a GOOD explanation why.

From a narrative perspective, I think there is a reason to the madness of it being Hook instead of Neal. The writers have to set up a contrast. Hook represents adventure, danger and otherworldliness while Neal represents the less flashy, but still brave-hearted, kind man who fits Emma like a glove. Yet, by bringing Hook to NYC instead of Neal, the writers are making Hook a fish out of water, making it painfully obvious that Hook doesn’t belong in this world. Hook is running around the big city dressed as a pirate waving his hook around making him look like an escaped convict from a mental institution. No wonder Emma probably calls the cops on him! Hook doesn’t belong in Emma’s world of NYC with her. Instead, he’s been sent to call her back to the world of fantasy and make-believe. Hook might represent adventure to Emma, but he also represents danger to the life she’s built for herself and Henry. By calling Emma back to SB or EF, Hook is asking Emma once again to put on her armor as the savior, to risk her life and Henry’s, for the sake of her family. For all we know, not only are Emma’s parents in jeopardy but so could Neal be in danger! Perhaps Neal sent Hook as a last recourse, or because he believes Emma favors Hook, but the point is, Hook sticks out like a sore thumb and doesn’t jive with Emma’s current happy abode or chosen lifestyle.

By contrast, Neal is the lost boy to Emma’s lost girl who, like her is from another world but called this one home once. He knows this world like she does and feels more comfortable in A Land Without Magic due to magic destroying his family once. Emma and Neal are end-game though, so the idea of Neal, Emma and Henry settling down together is Emma’s idea of a happy ending. She got a taste of that this past year. Taking a year off to raise her son has probably caused her to realize that her idea of a happy ending simply is having a good life in NYC with her son. And who best fits that mold? It’s Neal! He was independently living in NYC with a job and an apartment. It’d make the most sense for Neal to wind up back in the city with Emma and Henry as their everyday happily ever after scenario. We had a glimpse of Emma waking up at 8:15 to the same song “Charley’s Girl” that Neal was listening to back in 2×1! This shows pretty conclusively that both Emma and Neal share the same tastes, dream and hope, which is simply to have a good, normal, and honest family life together. Their dream is so simple when compared to the pirate escapades that Hook probably envisions for himself and Emma on the high seas. Hook will always have the sea in the blood. By contrast, all Neal wants is to build a home with Emma and Henry.

However, if you checck this frame of the promo( above), i think i notice now something that no one still talked, i think this is a new scene, maybe from 3×12 and why you ask, or maybe im not seeing weel, but if you look into the superior left corner of the pic, you can see a window, and in that window you see a car passing ( or at least looks like a car), so this cannot be 2×14, becuase they were in an apartment.

    What do you think?

It’s a new clip. We actually talked about this about 20 pages back if you want to look. You can see here there was a side-by-side comparison between the new clip from 3×12 and the old clip from 2×14. Basically, we all agreed that in 2×14 Emma was wearing a black coat with a red scarf but in 3×12 she is wearing a red coat and black turtleneck. Also, her hair is slightly different and so is the camera angle.

I don’t know the answer to questions 1-3. I can only hope we’ll get more answers as the season progresses.

    4) How did Tink get to NL? (and why was she there so early? Sounded like she was there at the same time as 222 which makes no sense)

I think the Hook/Belle flashback from 3×10 happened closer to the events of “The Queen of Hearts” flashbacks right before Hook returned to the EF because Hook was seeking magic to get off of the island. If so, then Hook would have been in NL already for a long time whereas Tink would’ve only been on the island a little while (she probably came shortly after the events of 3×3 when she lost her wings.

    5) What was Felix’s back story why could he not hear the music?

I think that Felix couldn’t hear the music because he technically was not unloved. Peter Pan loved him for his loyalty.

What happened to the lost boys when the curse hit??? Were they all from the Enchanted Forest?

I’m pretty sure the Lost Boys were originally from the Enchanted Forest, since in 3×4 we saw Peter Pan as the pied piper lure the boys from the town of Hamelin, including Baelfire, who lived in the Enchanted Forest with Rumple.

    Magic destroyed my family.

Poor Neal! How much more poignant are Rumple’s dying words to his son.

“I used the curse to find you, Bae. To tell you I made a mistake. To make sure you had a chance at happiness. And that happiness is possible.”

His papa created a curse, which ultimately resulted in Neal meeting Emma, the love of his life, and giving him the gift of fatherhood. For as long as he lives, he’ll know he got something right. It’s true magic destroyed his family, but it’s also true that magic helped bring him and Emma together to create Henry. Now all he needs to do is believe in the truth of his father’s words that happiness is possible, even for him, to believe in his second chance.
