Another hint that PP is Rumple’s dad is the meaning of the name Malcolm. Malcolm is a reference to the play “Macbeth” by Shakespeare.

This was the name of four kings of Scotland starting in the 10th century, including Malcolm III, who became king after killing Macbeth, the usurper who had murdered his father. The character Malcolm in Shakespeare’s tragedy ‘Macbeth’ (1606) is based on him.

Perhaps the magic that keeps old Malcolm as young Peter Pan is fading and he needs Henry’s heart to stabilize it.

Perhaps. Maybe magic overall isn’t dying…just the dark magic that extends Malcolm’s life.

Of course. When is Henry never in danger of dying?

Good point. Henry nearly dying is becoming a repeating theme.

So, Pan’s been dying for centuries now or is it just getting worse now because no on believes in magic?

I think it might’ve been a gradual thing…which is why he’s been looking for the heart of the truest believer for so long (200 years+).

    …is pan a fairy? a boy fairy?

Hmmmm….I dunno if he’s actually a fairy, but not believing in him might result in him dying just as not believing in a fairy in the original PP tale causes that fairy to die.

The casting call for Rumple’s father did say: “dissatisfied, self-centered and ruthless”

Exactly, Malcolm has the same characteristics as Peter Pan.

I think it is interesting that Rumple says whatever Pan promised–he WILL go back on it.  Sounds like he knows Pan is a liar and can never be trusted.  Father or brother?!

Peter Pan: “Rumple, I am your father.”

Ding, ding, ding, that nasty self-preservation habit. I think that clinches the argument as to who the Pan is.

Like father, like son! Rumple gets his nasty sense of self-preservation from DaddyPan! PP must be seriously devious if he’s willing to let his great-grandson die just so he can live.

What I want to know is how Emma knew about Henry having the heart of the truest believer. I don’t recall PP ever telling Emma about why he’d taken Henry, only that by the time Emma reached him, it would be too late because he would never forgive Emma.

Can we trust Wendy Darling? I think she’s telling the truth.

The first time she was lying about not knowing about PP’s plans, and then Regina won her trust by saying John and Michael were trusting them to defeat PP. That is when Wendy came clean. Plus, we know from the promo for 3×8 that PP is putting a heart into PP. PP and Wendy were lying to Henry about needing to save magic. What PP really wants is for Henry to sacrifice his life so that PP can become immortal.

    • Wendy was being blackmailed by PP to save John and Michael.
    • PP has been keeping John and Michael alive….by magic of some kind?
    • Peter Pan is dying and wants to make a trade: Henry’s life in exchange for immortality

Neal may have used Roland but Regina, with Emma’s permission in helping to hold back Snow, used a Lost Boy’s heart, ripping it out turning him essentially into a slave. It’s not that Emma and Neal are “going dark” but rather it’s the same theme that has been shown on this show since the beginning. Desperate Souls do desperate things. And when those desperate souls are doing it in the name of their children, there is literally nothing they won’t do.

One of the running themes since the beginning of S1 that Rumple posed is “how far are you willing to go?” in order to help your children. Snow and Charming were willing to send their newborn baby through a portal to an unknown land in a last-ditch effort to save her so she could save them. Geppetto sent his 7-year-old child through a portal to look after the savior, rather than the savior’s mother, in order to save his son from becoming a wooden puppet again. Rumple created a dark curse to locate his son. Jefferson risked going to WL for money to give Grace a better life. Moe wanted to erase Belle’s memories rather than see her imprisoned by Rumple (he obviously didn’t’ know the details). Regina was willing to die to save Henry in 2×22. Ruth was willing to die rather than drink the last drop of water from Lake Nostos so that Snow would one day give birth to Charming’s child. Also, Granny was willing to face the angry peasants after Ruby ate her boyfriend in order to let Ruby run away. And as RG pointed out, Emma was willing for Regina to use dark magic to take a lost boy’s heart to get a message to Henry.

Here are some more pics of Ginny Goodwin as Mary Margaret. It’s pretty obvious she’s pregnant:
