ParticipantCan we begin to unpack Neal’s reaction to Emma being magical? We’ve talked a little about this over the summer, but now would be a good time to bring it up.
- In 2×16, Neal discovered that Emma was magical, and she said he didn’t get to be judgmental about it since he’s “Mr. Son-of-Rumplestiltskin”
- In 3×7, Neal learns that Regina has been teaching her magic.
- In 3×8 promo, we see that Regina and Emma are casting a spell together and moving the moon, possibly bringing about daylight to NL and you can see a glimpse of Neal’s head in the shot.
So given Neal’s aversion to dark magic, how is he going to respond to Emma using dark magic with Regina? IS Emma even using dark magic? Does Neal still oppose it as strongly as when he was a kid? We saw that Neal used the magic orb in 3×1 to see Emma, so he’s not completely averse to using magic to help save Henry and Emma. And now that Neal is part of their lives, he’s coming to terms with Emma being the product of true love and Henry being the truest believer. I think Neal being the son of Rumple might also make him somewhat magical too. Maybe Neal can help Emma use magic without having to give into darkness? He seems to understand that once you give in, it can destroy a family, as it did when his father chose power over him.

ParticipantFavorite: Snow and Charming were adorable, as were Rumbelle, Ariel and Belle
Least-favorite: CSF drama. Emma was right to read both of them the riot act since Hook and Neal were acting like teenage boys fighting over a girl.

ParticipantHe told Charming and Snow. They were going to wait for confirmation if Neal was actually alive because why unnecessarily put Emma through losing him again? But Charming and Hook couldn’t agree on a proper cover story and never tell Snow White a secret.
I think Snow was actually right to tell Emma the truth. Emma is a grown woman capable of making up her own mind and handling her own affairs, and Snow respects that about her daughter. Charming and Hook were trying to “protect” her but in effect would’ve kept Emma from making her own decisions. Snow said Emma owed it to herself to know whether Neal were alive, not just for Henry’s sake but for her own. So, in that instance, I’m glad Snow couldn’t keep the secret, which she never really agreed to keep in the first place, I might add.

ParticipantCan I just add that Wendy looks amazingly well-kempt for being a prisoner on the island for over a century? Her hair looks amazing. And just how does she go to the bathroom or bathe on an island full of hormone-ragging teenage boys, especially if she’s stuck in that cage? How does a girl like Wendy get any privacy?

ParticipantCan I also say how cute were Tink and Neal! They were so happy to see each other. But I thought in a more platonic way like old friends and buddies not romantic in any way. That would have been weird since you know Neal was just a kid of 14 when they met…
Tink and Bae certainly had a friendship, because yeah, he was just a kid when they knew each other.
She looked at Hook in 303 like he was a tasty dish she’d very much like to sample again.
Oh, like this?

ParticipantRandom: how did Wendy know that Henry was Bae’s son? Did Peter tell her?
Most likely. That or Wendy overheard them talking about Neal and then heard Neal yelling at Henry (in which he referred to himself as ‘dad’).

ParticipantRumple sent Ariel to SB to get Pandora’s box (most of us already knew this) because he believes it will be a fate worse than death. According to Belle, it held the most evil magic and things in the world inside it (this is a rather loose take on the Greek myth of Pandora and her legendary jar/box but we’ll go with it).
What will Rumple and Regina do with the box? How will they use it?I think the worst possible fate for PP would be growing up. Having said that, the most evil magic could be lack of hope, which is what this show is all about. So, maybe a lack of hope/belief is what causes PP to age into an old man?

I loved Charming’s line tonight ‘love is sacrifice’. It just reminded me of Neal and Emma. When others say he abandoned her; I believe he made a sacrifice so that Emma could find her family and fulfil her destiny. Keeping hopeful
I CHEERED so loudly for that line. I instantly had SwanFire feelings
Yes, love is about sacrifice. Charming and Neal are a lot alike in that regard. Both Charming and Neal let Emma go to give her her best chance. Emma was just a baby when Charming scarified his life to put Emma in the wardrobe to go through alone. Charming was willing to let Snow go through the wardrobe without him for the sake of their child, even though it would’ve meant Snow growing old without him and him remaining frozen at a young age. “What’s 28 years when you have true love?” Likewise, Neal was willing to let Emma go for the sake of getting her home after he found out about her destiny. He didn’t do it out of any sort of maliciousness; he was sacrificing his own chance at happiness too, because he loves Emma. And Neal sacrificed himself for the Darlings, as well as for Henry so he wouldn’t have to grow up alone like Neal and Emma did. Neal is constantly doing the selfless thing. And now Neal is doing whatever it takes to save Henry. I’m sure that given enough time together, Charming will really take to Neal and be like a father-figure/brother to him, too. I have faith that once Charming realizes what a personal sacrifice the curse was to Neal that he’ll have sympathy, since the curse tore apart Charming’s family, too which meant he couldn’t be there for Emma either like he wanted.

ParticipantHurray for the Darling clan! I loved seeing them again and can’t wait to get more of their backstory. I think the Darlings tried to save Bae but got stuck in NL.
Yay for Henry trying to be the hero and rescue her (although um, could it have BEEN any more obvious it was setting him up? Henry! You’re smarter than that!)
As smart as Henry was to figure out the curse and all, being the truest believer apparently has its downsides. He’ll believe anything PP tells him because, hey, it’s PP! And PP knows how to make Henry do things he wants. But as soon as I heard PP say the word “sacrifice” I just knew that was ominous and indicative of Henry sacrificing himself. *Sigh* Henry’s belief makes him so….gullible.

Participanthe problem I’m having here are all of Colin’s interviews in which he stated that Bae was like a son to him. That it’s very complicated because Hook does care for Baelfire and would have given up everything for him.
I’m having trouble too reconciling what Colin has said about Hook versus what we’ve actually seen play out so far on screen. Maybe, Lord willing, Hook will have an epiphany before it’s too late when he actually realizes Henry’s life hangs in the balance? Will Hook empathize with Neal more when he sees what hurt Neal has lived with, in large part because of being abandoned by Milha and by Rumple? Doesn’t Hook feel in the least bit contrite for helping destroy Bae’s family as a boy and convicted that he’s standing in the way now of Neal trying to reconcile with Emma and Henry? I still want to believe Hook has it in him to care about someone else’s interests, namely Neal’s, other than his own. But after tonight, I’m sorry, I’m just feeling discouraged about the lack of Hook’s character growth. It just feels like he’s not learned a thing about real sacrifice.
