ParticipantNobody on this show deserves love because love is not something the can be earned. Trust is. Respect is. But love? Love is a gift. It is something freely given, sometimes in spite of who we are or what we’ve done.
This is possibly the best, most concise summary of everything I tried to say in the CSF thread over the summer. No one is perfect and all have fallen short of stated ideals. Both Neal and Hook are vying for another chance with Emma, since technically, both men abandoned her, though Neal’s motive was to get her home whereas Hook’s was to make sure she didn’t get home. Yet, form where I’m sitting, we’re all still rooting for Hook to get his chance at redemption, even if we don’t see him and Emma ending up together. So, where is the equal love/enthusiasm for Neal to get his shot at redemption? It’s pretty much confined to this thread. If Regina, the tyrannical ruler who slaughtered her citizens in the hundreds, gets a second chance at love, then surely Neal does too? Even Emma, who gave up her son to give him his best chance, may not “deserve” Henry according to Regina enthusiasts. Does Emma deserve a second chance at motherhood with the son she gave away? Well, regardless of wether she does or not, she and Neal are fighting for a do-over at parenthood….why not a second chance at love with one another? Rumple doesn’t “deserve” a second shot at being a dad to Neal after he let go of Bae. Like PP said, he could just start over with Belle and have some new kids. Yet, we still long to see the day he finds redemption and reconciles with Neal. Why? Because we all long for a another chance to make things right.

ParticipantRG: I agree with what you said, for some reason the writers so far have decided not to have a conversation between Emma and Hook about his past actions, and it gives the impression to the audience it is water under the bridge to her, to Hook, but it may be that she simply bottled it up as irrelevant for now. She needs her son back, then she can deal with the baggage in the relationships with either man, and they can deal with their issues with each other.
This is honestly the thing that annoys me most about the hypocrisy of fans who hate Neal while blindly loving Hook. Neal gets a lot of hate for leaving Emma and allowing her to go to jail, even though he did so to get her home; yet, Hook somehow gets a free pass from CS fans for leaving Emma for dead, ignoring her pleas to return home to Henry. Hook would’ve left Henry motherless (unless you count Regina) by leaving Emma to rot in a jail cell. It’s so inconsistent, and I hope Emma brings this up to Hook at some point. Hook is not someone who values Henry or has his best interest at heart. Neal, however, is Henry’s father, and therefore would lay down his life for his son.

ParticipantYes Happy ONCE day! It felt like Ariel took *forever* to get here but I was surprised at how quickly 307 has come. Here’s hoping for a good episode all around!
Going off of this positive mojo, I’m looking forward to the following in upcoming episodes:
- Emma, Neal and Hook getting some good screen time. Should be awkward and perhaps painful, but yet that is somehow part of the draw. Jennifer Morrison confirms that Emma and Neal talk about their past. I want to see Hook and Neal getting to talk about their history together.
- Getting to see more flashbacks of young Baelfire and Hook in NL past. I’d like to see Hook have actually tried to rescue Bae.
- Possibly getting to see flashbacks of Neal’s life before “Manhattan” and possibly getting to see August again. Adam and Eddy confirmed this might happen. Possibly, we might get more information about what happened to Neal after he left Emma and how August was the one who called the cops.

ParticipantThis isn’t directed at anyone but I’m just going to remind us all of the rules (everyone is doing fine but I need to be fair in my moderation)
Thanks RG. I think I know what you’re referring to….some fans are resorting to ad homonym attacks. Let’s rise above it and set the better example for our fellow fans. We’re all Oncers after all. Happy Once Day!

ParticipantI think this picture that Mark Isham posted of Regina comes from 3×9 “Save Henry” because Lana Parrilla was photographed by Candagraphs with a similar hair-do as Mayor Mills in a SB flashback.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Regina were making a fertility potion in an attempt to get pregnant. Even though there was no magic in SB at the time, Regina might still have had a collection of magic potions she brought over from the Enchanted Forest. She probably tried unsuccessfully to get pregnant by Graham before she decided on adoption. That is when she decides to hire Mr. Gold to procure her a child, aka Henry."That’s how you know you’ve really got a home. When you leave it, there’s this feeling that you can’t shake. ParticipantAlso, I’m guessing the rights to The Princess Bride are owned by the author of the book and the studio that made the movie, which I’m pretty sure wasn’t Disney, so they wouldn’t have the rights to be able to make Hook = Westley and Emma = Buttercup. Throwing in a well known line from that story here and there as an homage, sure no problem. Actually recreating the characters from that story, probably a no go.
It’s no secret that Colin O’Donoghue has said his take on Captain Hook is based some on the Dread Pirate Roberts, but we have also seen the writers pay homage to Captain Jack Sparrow (e.g. the rum, the overt flirtations, the jar of sparkly dirt reference). Adam and Eddy can get away with more overt references to “Pirates of the Caribbean” Jack Sparrow since the movie and the characters are original to Disney .Yet, “The Princess Bride” is not owned by Disney but was produced by a company called Act III Communications. Adam and Eddy have had to tread lightly. They could have Hook say, “as you wish” probably by paying a fee to Act III Communication but they could not say insert an original character like Max the Miracle Worker into the Enchanted Forest. The writers did make a reference in 3×2 that Killian had killed Rufio , despite the film Hook being owned by Columbia Pictures. Yet, A&E couldn’t actually use the character Rufio because he is an original character owned by Columbia Pictures, not Disney.

ParticipantAbout Emma’s flower tattoo, Adam Kitsis and Edward Kitsis had this to say:
Will we find out about Emma’s tattoo?
Adam Horowitz: I would say probably not.
Kitsis: It’s the same flower that’s on her father’s crest, but how she got it and why she chose it is probably not something we’ll get to this year. So, Adam says they may not even get to it, while Eddy says the meaning of Emma’s tattoo is that it is the same flower as on her father’s crest. He got it after defeating King George in battle and taking over his kingdom and castle.
Charming Family Crest
Emma’s flower tattoo
The flower on her father’s crest is white, not yellow, so I doubt it’s a buttercup. To me it looks more like a white rose that sometimes was depicted on a coat-of-arms in the Middle Ages. Perhaps the most famous example is the White Rose of York:
In medieval heraldry, the white rose symbolizes love and faith; charm and innnocence, which makes sense, given Snow White’s purity, and Prince Charming’s, well, charm. Snow and Charming also have faith in true love. Emma’s flower tattoo links Emma symbolically to her parents, since she unknowingly selected it before she ever met them. That shows she is her parents’ daughter, even if she always felt like an orphan. By having the same flower tattoo as her father’s crest, she’s linked to them and their royal line. For those who are interested, the red chevron represents protection; builders or others who have accomplished some work of faithful service.
The heraldic lion represents bravery, strength, ferocity, and valor.
Interestingly, the Man with the Lion Tattoo (aka Robin Hood) has the same heraldic lion as on the Charming family crest.
Well, symbols have meaning and could be a connection showing that tattoos show identity. Legend has it that Robin Hood traditionally served the lionhearted King Richard I of England."That’s how you know you’ve really got a home. ParticipantEmma reads them the riot act for fighting over her. She vows that the only person she will ever choose is Henry.
She’s right not to choose either one of them while Henry’s life is in the balance.
