Participant3) If Blue bites the bullet and its her coat lying on the steps could be shades Obi-wan in ANH, Yoda in ROTJ and Jen’s master in the Dark Crystal. Disappearing into the ether leaving an empty garment behind. And if it is Blue that is taken out we have to ask if that complicated history Rumple alluded to goes beyond just giving Bae the bean
That’s the same idea I proposed back when I saw the pic of Tink, Emma and Hook at the nunnery, so count me in on this theory.
Also, I saw the best caption on Tumblr for the ‘Stiltskin clan picture:
Suddenly, PP’s comment about Belle looking fertile makes sense. He wanted more grand-babies.

ParticipantOften times when Kings or the like had children with other women other than wives, they would, while not acknowledging them, at least set up the child and mother with a good life and provide for them. This does not seem to be the case. My guess is that Jafar’s mother was a poor peasant woman who found herself in the Sultan’s bed for his pleasure and was then dismissed. She probably died early on in Jafar’s life, thus forcing him into apprenticeship with the man at the beginning of the show.
Sadly, that sounds very plausible. Yet, I hope for Jafar’s sake that his mother didn’t just die in childbirth but that she lived long enough to show Jafar love and kindness he probably longed for. What if she died trying to provide for him (a la Fantine and Cosette in “Les Miserables”)? What if the reason Jafar wants to change the laws of magic is to bring back his mother to life?

ParticipantDo you think Lizard is in love with Will? (Wizard!!) Where did she come from? Do we know her from anything else?
Yes, I think Liz loves Will as more than a friend, but I think that love is unrequited. The way she spoke about Will teaching her everything, the way she looked at him and the way she helped Alice was indicative of her love for him. I wonder if Liz ever confessed her love for Will but he was too strung out on Anastasia to care for Liz as more than a friend. Perhaps they really were thick as thieves at one point. Yet, I have a prediction that Will being turned to stone could potentially be undone by True Love’s Kiss…from Liz? Or maybe that only works in EF. I would root for Liz for Will over Anastasia any day.
I just wanna know why she’s not at home or who her parents are? What if she’s the rightful ruler of the realm the RQ now has??? The daughter of the former Queen and King!
I love that theory as well! The name Elizabeth sound very regal (Queen Elizabeth).

ParticipantMaybe he did really love her but like Cora, he chose power over love. I said this in the favorite moments threads, but there was a definite Cora/Rumple vibe going on here. But with a reversal of genders.
Seeing Jafar go from a little boy to the lover of Amara was really twisted. It’s like how Regina looked at Greg Mendel and said something like, “My how you’ve grown.” I just got all sorts of creeped out from the way Amara and Jafar’s relationship developed from master – apprentice to lovers. It was similar to Cora and Rumple, but at least she was a grown woman when their relationship started. Jafar was still just a child when Amara took him under her wing. Ick. But yes, props to Naveen for playing a conniving Jafar. I didn’t expect him to backstab Amara; I thought it’d be the other way around.

Participant20 cookies says that the other man in the cage next to Cyrus is the Sultan, Jafar’s father who denied Jafar as his son. Thoughts?
Agreed. That makes a lot of sense.

ParticipantOh that’s interesting. But what if it’s Tinkerbell. We have yet to see her in this big battle. Surely they wouldn’t leave out Tink?
In the chat, WickedRegal suggests that Tinkerbell brings Robin Hood to SB. She is supposed to get her wings back, so why not?

ParticipantI have been lurking here for a few days and imagine my surprise when I noticed my Swanfire Family, A New Kind of Fairytale posted in here. I just like to say THANK YOU all ^_^. You words have been very warm and Kind. I am also happy to find another safe have to discuss both Swanfire and Nealfire without reproach. Its hard out their in Facebook land for a Neal and Swanfire lover!!
Welcome, Ranisha! This indeed a safe haven for fellow SF enthusiasts! I loved that essay so much. Great stuff! We’ll really value your future posts, should you choose to write more here. 😀
Oh, my, Persuasion is my favorite Jane Austen book besides Pride and Prejudice. I just love the story of Frederick and Anne. Definitely Swanfire is them and not Sense and Sensibility.
Persuasion has been my favorite Jane Austen novel for over a decade. No wonder I favor SF, since they are certainly comparable to Anne and Captain Wentworth! 🙂

ParticipantI also read another delightful essay earlier today on Tumblr about seeing Once through a Jane Austen lens (which I often do anyway)!
Jane Austen meets OUAT
Sometimes it seems to me that the story of Swanfire is a less-polite version of a Jane Austen novel. If you believe what Neal did to Emma is unforgiveable, and that he should forever suffer for it, then it’s Sense and Sensibility. Neal is Willoughby and Emma is the ward of Colonel Brandon, 15-year-old Eliza Williams, whom Neal/Willoughby abandons to romance Marianne Dashwood, while Emma/Eliza gives birth to his bastard off-screen (so to speak, actually, off-page). This seems to make Marianne representative of Neal’s prison-free life after leaving Emma, and makes the aunt August, and the woman he ultimately engages himself to Tamara.
In this scenario, Neal is a charming cad, a man without scruples who experiences love with Marianne, but is forced to leave her also, and engage himself to someone else at his aunt’s (who holds the purse strings) wishes. He spends the rest of his days regretting his life choices, finding his only redemption in the fact that he does seems to understand what he has lost.
If, as a viewer, you see not only the good in Neal, but the possibility that what he did to Emma was not for entirely selfish reasons (or you see the possibility for redemption from his actions), then it’s an update of Persuasion, with Neal as Captain Wentworth, and Emma as Anne Elliot; young, true loves parted by circumstance and one busybody of a Lady Russell (August/Pinocchio). Neal/Wentworth abandons Emma/Anne to prison and pregnancy/her horrid family—a life unloved and unappreciated. Later in life, when his situation has altered, they find themselves again in the same circle of acquaintance.
Neal/Wentworth becomes engaged to Tamara/Louisa Musgrove, which proves to be an ill-fated and wholly unsuitable-to-him match, as Tamara/Louisa behaves rashly, and ultimately becomes involved with another suitor. [Depending on how you view the character of Hook] Emma/Anne, on the other hand is (scenario #1) pursued by the calculating opportunist Hook/Mr. William Elliot, who has his mind set on possessing Anne for reasons quite different than those based in love, while at the same time (scenario #2) Emma/Anne develops a friendship based on mutual interest and understanding of heartbreak with Hook/Captain Benwick who is still in mourning for the death of his fiancée.
Neal/Wentworth thinks Emma/Anne is into both Hook/Mr. Elliot, Hook/Captain Benwick. Emma/Anne knows Neal/Wentworth has publically engaged himself to Tamara/Louisa Musgrove. Angst ensues.
In the end, after many stops and starts, Wentworth and Anne find each other again, once both are free of other romantic attachments. Anne forgives Lady Russell for being the mechanism of their hurtful separation, Wentworth forgives Anne for following the advice of Lady Russell, causing their original separation (okay, so that is admittedly a little muddled there by inverting the Neal-August dynamic into one of Emma-August). They reconcile and live “happily ever after” on Wentworth’s ship (until the next Napoleonic War).
It will be interesting to see how this plays out on Once.
