Doesn’t Peter also say that to live would be a big adventure? This idea of Peter as someone caught between life and death is a great parallel to the wraith and what it supposedly did. Not that the shadow is the wraith but that type of magic is connected to Neverland. There is someone on the board that keeps mispelling Neverland as Netherland, and commonly we refer to the land of the dead as Netherworld. So I’m thinking Neverland isn’t quite the Disney land that’s all cute and fluffy, with fairies and such. It’s really a dark place that ties in to the imagery one associates with a netherworld that houses lost spirits.

I hope NL isn’t super dark. Rather, if it is a place for lost souls, I want it to parallel a dream world instead, a place between waking and sleeping. J.M. Barrie wrote the story to describe heaven and based the character of Peter Pan on his own beloved brother, who passed away at age14. If you saw the movie Finding Neverland, Barrie was also partly inspired by his platonic relationship with Sylvia Llewelyn Davies, and his close friendship with her sons. She is diagnosed with consumption, but before she dies, Barrie has his cast come and preform his play Peter Pan in her home, because she is too ill to visit the theatre. She glimpses NL and it is a metaphor for paradise and heaven, where one is pepetually young and healthy.

How many useable beans do they have now, though? If there are none left on the vines, then there’s only what’s in Regina’s office, and GOAT are gonna get those. When they had a whole field of beans, fair enough, everyone gets a bean. But they’re in short supply now. We know that GOAT use one. We assume that Charmings&Co use one to transport Hook’s ship. But where is everyone else in SB gonna get a bean to be able to get home?

Or will there be some other portal method discovered before season’s end?

Once Henry is kidnapped and Regina teams up with the others to find him, she’s got no need to destroy SB any more, so will it even actually happen?

Valid points you raised. Yet, having watched the first 10 mins of 2×21, the fail-safe gem is now in the hands of GOAT. That just spell disaster in my opinion. If she somehow triggers the self-destruct button, there won’t be anything Regina or Rumple could do to prevent SB from vanishing. So, the rest of SB’s residents would have to go somewhere. How many beans were there? At least 2, but maybe 3. One will be used for GOAT to kidnap Henry to another world, one will be used by Hook and Co. to track down Henry, and if there is a third bean, my guess is the dwarves and other minor characters would travel to EF.

Favorite moment: Seeing Emma and Henry team up again for Operation Preying-mantis was so cute. I thought it was funny seeing Henry be Emma’s lookout and Neal not falling for it because he taught her how to do that. 😆

Least-favorite moment: Maleficent’s magically animated corpse was full-on CREEPY! Didn’t like that one bit, plus I bet it gives kids nightmares.

I’m inclined to agree. So a few questions that brings up:
    1) What happens to the rest of the cast? Dwarves, fairies, Red/Granny, rest of the townsfolk?

Minor main characters like Ruby and the dwarves will dedicate themselves to recolonizing the EF. I hope the fairies finally put the magic to use and get rid of the ogre threats. David said they somehow managed to get rid of the ogres before, so I hope the fairies can do so again.

    2) Are we never going to see it again? Is each season going to take us to a new land until we finally get back to FTL for good?

I’m not sure we will see SB again. Henry said he always expected everyone to go back to the EF one day. Plus, purely form a storytelling perspective, SB has served its main purpose, which was to house the residents of the EF during the curse. Now with the curse broken and the option of returning home, I don’t see why they’d want to stay in our world. Also, it’s too hard to have 3 simultaneous plot-lines going. In the first part of S2, it was really dissatisfying to a lot of fans to keep track of SB present, EF flashbacks, and post-apocolytpic EF all at once. By eliminating SB, we will mostly focus on NL, EF flashbacks, with maybe just a quick glimpse of the dwarves and fairies back in present-day EF. But the major focus will be NL for the first part of S3, and maybe moving on to Oz or other lands by the second-half of S3.

Rats! I saw the image on Tumblr with the title “official” and I fell for it because of all the NL spoilers being leaked in one go! I was so hopeful this would be the real deal. 😡

I like it! Also, the idea of a fail safe deep underground that requires a “key” of some sort…. how very end of S2 of LOST. Paging, Desmond Hume….(if you haven’t seen LOST, trust me. This sounds exactly like the end of S2)

I’m worried this means SB will actually disappear for good. That even though they all get on the Jolly Roger to head out, SB still disappears at the end of the season

I think it’s a pretty sure thing that SB is going to vanish into thin air, just like it appeared out of nowhere.

Gold is *totally* putting on a show for Lacey. He’s pushing Whale down because he *looked* at her? That’s ridiculous even for Gold! He is playing up his bad boy image for her and got caught by his son. Boy is he in between a rock and a hard place.

Agreed. And if you watch RC’s face, he can tell in the last few moments of the shot that what he is doing to keep Lacey is costing him Bae. So he’s got a choice to make. And I have faith that he’s going to make the right one and choose goodness and it will somehow spark Belle inside of Lacey and everything will be happy.

Perhaps Mr. Gold will choose goodness, but I think it’ll come too late and at a high price. Having indulged in his bad side again, he might not help his grandson, whom we know will be a target for GOAT. Bae will fight to protect Henry, but Mr. Gold won't get involved soon enough, so he'll lose Baelfire, who might be sent to another realm where spirits go (perhaps NL) where Bae meets Philip, Aurora, and Mulan. In the mean time back in SB, Mr. Gold is distraught over having lost Bae AGAIN, he repents, turns towards the light, and somehow manages to summon Belle's true identity. They all head off to find Henry and Baelfire.

You can never quite tell what Hook is thinking. He seems to at least have some compassion for Regina- enough to not help Tamara and Greg, but not enough to help Regina herself. This whole magic vs science thing is going to be very interesting.

He doesn’t want to watch her being tortured. I get the feeling he’s going to turn to Emma and tell her and the Charmings where Regina is.

Yes, Hook will do the right thing by tipping off Emma. The Charmings will save Regina again, they'll realize Henry's in jeopardy, causing them to band together, and Hook will offer them passage to NL on his ship.

I think there is a connection between the wraith and that shadow peter pan thing too.

They have such a similar feel about them. The eyes are different shape though, and the Wraith had no legs, but I can’t shake the feeling that they’re related somehow, especially if they want to relate the end of the season to the beginning. It would tie things together nicely.

While I don’t think Peter Pan’s shadow is the Wraith, I think NL is a sort of “shadow world” where lost souls might go. So, it’s possible we’ll see Mulan, Aurora, Philip, and Baelfire in NL if that is where souls get sent after being sucked by the Wraith.

Did Barrie give Peter Pan a specific origin story, or was he always just that boy in Neverland who never grew up?

Yes, Barrie did give Peter Pan an origin story. I found this on Wikipedia:

Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens: Infant Peter flies from his home, makes friends with fairies, and takes up residence in Kensington Gardens. It is a “book-within-a-book” that was first published in Barrie’s The Little White Bird.

TV Guide Magazine: There’s a scene that finds most of you, plus Henry (Jared Gilmore), congregating in the diamond mine. What can you tease about this?
Parrilla: What’s surprising about this is the light and dark forces trying to work together for a greater good.

Ohhh! Maybe the main characters are all in the diamond minds because of the fail-safe! It looks diamond-shaped, so maybe the ruby/gem fits into a slot, which if pushed, is like a self-destruct button!

TV Guide Magazine: With Neverland coming into play, is there a possibility for Emma to capture some of her lost childhood?
Kitsis: The interesting thing is, [Neverland] is about belief and lost youth. And now that Emma is back with her parents, you have a group of people who will never get back the time they lost — including Mr. Gold, who lost a long time with his son [Baelfire]. And a hint for Season 3 is that Emma’s job with magic is far from done.

So stoked for NL, Emma’s magic, and Peter Pan! 😀

Carlyle: No, no. Not at all. He’s in a different place. For him, it’s all about getting Belle back.

    I am keeping the faith.

I’m with you on that one, though I’m admittedly a tad apprehensive about this guy. Please, prove us right, Mr. Gold, that you can change for the better. 😕

I like both options, because at this rate, I don’t see TLK happening this season for Mr. Gold and Lacey. Sure, she is into him for being a bad boy, but as Archie would say, “Giving into one’s dark side never accomplishes anything.”
