Good point, frumpybutsupersmart. Don’t think we’ve seen an example of someone casting spells just to help others instead of themselves.
The fairies are a good example of magical beings who use magic appropriately and to benefit others. I know the Blue Fairy gets a lot of negative blame (I myself have looked to her for a scapegoat ever since The Return). Yet, she has helped people who are in distress: Baelfire, Jiminy Cricket, Geppetto, Pinocchio, Emma Swan via the magical wardrobe. She might be working towards the “overall good” of society, but at least she believes she is doing right for the sake of others. She doesn’t seem to be harboring selfish intents, at least, not in my opinion. She may be responsible for working behind the scenes with August to ensure that Emma Swan fulfilled her destiny and broke the curse, but I no longer think she is the mastermind behind the curse.

Well, I think he may need Emma back in town to help him break the barrier curse so he can get out of town. Rumple may well assume that the person Henry saw in his dream was Snow, (given that they’ve both been under the sleeping curse), so if he could help Henry to gain enough control to communicate with her, that could lead to a way for Emma to get back so that he can ask for that infamous favour. Much as I wanna eventually see my boy Rumple redeemed, I doubt this gesture was purely out of the goodness of his heart.
You raise a really good point, which I hadn’t even considered. It’d make a lot of sense for Gold to help Henry if he thought it meant Emma would return to SB to carry out a favor for him. At least Mr. Gold didn’t name a price, so maybe he is learning to be a better man. Plus, I still think that Mr. Gold has a genuine soft spot for Henry, and showed a paternal concern (perhaps because Henry reminds Gold of Baelfire, which makes sense if Henry is his son).

ParticipantFavorite scenes: Mr. Gold showing paternal concern for Henry and Regina showing motherly love. I also loved the friendship between Ruby and David, Ruby and Snow, and Ruby and Belle. Basically, Ruby is just a good friend to have. Also, rocker Granny shooting a crossbow at Spenser’s head was well-deserved. 🙂
Least-favorite scene: It was a lack of any mention of Captain Hook that let me down this week. I at least wanted some nod to his whereabouts. Call me a Hooky 🙂

To add fuel to the whole “Blue cannot be trusted” theory, wouldn’t she know about both items and their magical properties? The question revolves around why would she give them to George, unless she wasn’t ready to go back? Blue still has a lot to answer for in my opinion.
Poor Blue Fairy/Mother Superior has become the scapegoat for everything that goes wrong in the lives of the SB residents. 🙂 I think her actions are suspicious when it comes to working with August, procuring baby Henry’s adoption, and causing Emma to arrive in SB. Beyond that, I’m starting to doubt that she’s the real mastermind behind the dark curse, rather than Rumpelstiltskin. She did have a gleam in her eye when she gave the portal-jumping bean to Baelfire, but beyond that, there’s no real evidence to suggest she wanted the dark curse to happen. She may have just wanted Rumpel to suffer the price of his own dark magic and to protect Baelfire. Also, I don’t think the BF is working for King George. I think he’s just plain bitter to the core due to his own dashed hopes of having a family. He said so himself several times he wants Charming to suffer as he did.

Yeah, I miss Rumpel a ton, too, and even Regina. But, fear not, for if you read the synopses for the next two episodes, you won’t be disappointed for much longer. 🙂

Well, in a sense, we had a zombie in season 1 too, it’s just that Graham was an attractive one, as opposed to your stereotypical zombie. 😉
😆 I never thought of Graham like that before, but if Stephanie Myers could make vampires sexy, then surely Adam and Eddy could do the same for zombies!
Cora’s army won’t seem like stereotypical zombies either, I don’t think, (though that shot in the promo where you see one’s hand reach up in the air from the bottom of the screen is an homage to the stereotypical zombie rising from the grave scene). I doubt they’ll be stumbling around, half decayed, mumbling about wanting to eat brains. They’ll just be regular people who are being controlled by the person who has their hearts, which isn’t really different to anything we’ve seen previously, it’s just that this time it’s a large group of people being ordered to kill, as opposed to an individual being ordered to Regina’s bed.
Regarding the zombies, I can’t say I’m very surprised by this reveal, since I heard a spoiler way back that we’d be meeting heartless zombies. I think Eddy and Adam are huge fans of old-fashioned monster movies, as evidenced by the introduction of Dr. Frankenstein in The Doctor. Though zombies aren’t anywhere close to being part of fairy-tales, they are part of traditional Vodou folklore from Africa, in a similar way that vampires and werewolves are part of European legends. While these heartless zombies aren’t the same as the horror-film kind, they did seem to have some similarities like the controllability factor. I’m not too concerned by the introduction of mythical creatures as being too scary since Disney sugar-coated these fairy-tales for the modern age, but read in their true, original form, Grimms fairy-tales are truly creepy! As long as the zombies all look like Graham though, I have no major complaints. 😉

It’s not necessarily completely impossible for the original Sleeping Beauty to have been Snow’s mother. We dunno what happened to Snow’s mother yet, so she may not have died. For all we know, she fled somewhere to protect her husband and daughter from Maleficent who was after her for whatever reason. She could have ended up somewhere far away from her old home, where she found a new guy, (Aurora’s father), and started a new life, but Maleficent eventually tracked her down and cursed her. There’s probably about a 10 year age gap between Snow and Aurora, so it could work timeline wise for them to have had the same mother. It wouldn’t seem far fetched, because Snow, Aurora, and her mother are already connected due to them having been under the same sleeping curse. May as well keep the curse in the family.
The actresses are 13 years apart in age, (Ginny was born in ’78 and Sarah was born in ’91). From memory the casting call for Aurora was for a character who was early 20s, and I’ve always figured Snow was around the 30 mark. There’s no way that Aurora could have given birth to Snow, but like I said, I could buy them as half siblings. With about a 10 year age gap, that’d allow time for Snow’s mother to have run off and set up a new life and had another kid with someone else.
Love the idea that Snow and Aurora might be half-sisters! We know Aurora suffered the same fate as her mother, the first Sleeping Beauty. Now, we also know that Snow White suffered from the same sleeping spell. I found it interesting that in Tallahassee we saw Snow White comforting Aurora as if she were her younger sister. Also, in Child of the Moon we heard Snow mention she’d do anything to be with her her mother again. Taken alone, these might just show how nurturing Snow is, despite having been raised without a mother, but viewed side-by-side, they might suggest that Aurora and Snow have the same mother.
Okay, I have a slightly nutty theory, but here it goes. What if the original Sleeping Beauty is trapped in the netherworld, because she too suffered the effects of the sleeping curse, but was never awakened because her true love, King Leopold, thought her dead and never kissed her? According to Mr. Gold, the netherworld is somewhere between life and death, and Snow could have the chance to meet her mother again by going there in her dreams. Aurora could also meet her, and possibly Prince Phillip, whose soul was sucked there by the wraith.

My thoughts on the zombies are in the other thread, so in here I’ll just ask what’s up with the hall of mirrors that Charming is in, and what’s up with Aurora spinning up through the air in the burning room?
I think the scene with the hall of mirrors could be when Charming risks his own life. If the netherworld into which Henry and Aurora enter during sleep proves to be too costly for Henry, Charming may willingly enter an enchanted sleep to communicate with Snow White.
Also, I love Henry’s line about being done reading about heroes and wanting to be one. Heroism is in the kid’s blood.
Yes! He certainly takes after the Charming side of the family. 🙂
frumpybutsupersmart wrote: Is it just me or did that purple smoke surrounding Aurora in that promo shot of her spinning through the air remind anyone else of magic? Do you think Cora might be able to influence that dream world somehow?
It’s not only you, since I share your insight. I believe this netherworld, as Mr. Gold called it, could either foreshadow or be an actual portal between worlds, which Cora may try and enter using magic.I’m now thinking that the title Into the Deep could refer to entering the netherworld which is somewhere between the living and the dead. Mr. Gold said that souls travel there when they’re neither fully dead nor fully alive, like when one is under the effects of the sleeping curse. I predict Aurora will also meet Phillip in that netherworld, since he was entrapped by the soul-sucking wraith. Perhaps Phillip and other trapped spirits could even help in the battle against Cora, if she somehow has the magical power to travel there herself.
