Favorite moments: When Rumpel gave Belle the key to the library and when we found out how Killian Jones became Captain Hook of Neverland.

Least-favorite moment: When Rumpel killed Milha for her adultery. Yes, she was very wrong to have abandoned her son and husband, but Rumpel’s cold-blooded murder shows how evil he’d become. How is Baelfire going to react when he realizes his father killed his mother?

I think Jefferson and Regina had a working relationship vs a romantic one. Jefferson was married to someone else, and it’s implied in 1×17 that he lost his wife because of his line of work. The preview for 2×5 suggests Jefferson was still working as a portal-jumper at the time the events take place, since he offers to locate Dr. Frankenstein on Regina’s behalf. So, Jefferson had yet to hang up his hat, and may have still been happily married when the events of 2×5 take place.

Also, Regina is obviously still grief-stricken over losing Daniel, since she seems to have employed Dr. Frankenstein to bring back her lost love. I don’t think she’s simultaneously searching for a way to bring Daniel back to life and seeing Jefferson on the side. Also, there is still that hint that Jefferson and Regina might be related, since she said in 1×17 to Jefferson that you never abandon family.

‘Once Upon’ showrunners reveal which famous characters they’d consider adding

Once Upon a Time is broadening its universe beyond fairy tales this season, adding a historical legend (Mulan) and literary creations (Capt. Hook, Lancelot). So who else might possibly show up in Storybrooke? We ran some Disney-owned and public domain characters past showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz to get the scoop…

Robin Hood? Kitsis: “Absolutely.” Horowitz: “Definitely in-bounds.”

Tarzan? Kitsis: “Never talked about Tarzan. But in a world where The Jungle Book exists, I don’t know why Tarzan couldn’t either.”

Mickey Mouse? Kitsis: “He’s been on the show — in phone form. I can’t ever see how he’d get on and feel real.”

Genghis Khan? Kitsis: “Probably not. Too historical.”

Capt. Jack Sparrow? Both: [Exasperated sighs]

You both had the same reaction to that. Kitsis: “We loved [Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl] so much. But unless we get Johnny Depp, how could we do Jack Sparrow?” Horowitz: “We can’t do it. He’s Jack Sparrow.” Kitsis: “Unless Johnny Depp [wants to appear on] Once Upon a Time, then we will write Jack Sparrow all day!”

Tom Sawyer? Kitsis: “You never know.” Horowitz: “That’s an interesting one.”

The Little Mermaid? Kitsis: “Absolutely. We’re waiting for the right moment. You don’t want it to be just one episode.” Horowitz: “It’s already woven into the fabric of what we’re doing; the only question is when.”

Achilles? Horowitz: “He’s on the border. Possible.”

Wizard of Oz? Kitsis: “We’ve been talking about Oz since Day 1. Look at the pilot. One of the pages of Henry’s book shows flying monkeys. And in Jefferson’s hat there seemed to be an emerald curtain.” Adam: “Oz is another ‘when,’ not ‘if.’”

Captain Ahab? Horowitz: “I like Ahab.” Kitsis: “You never know.”

Sherlock Holmes? Kitsis: “Here’s something interesting. Originally the sheriff was Sherlock Holmes. He was going to be a detective and his curse was he was in a town with no mystery. So he was this bored sheriff. And there was a rights issue so we could not get it.”

Everybody else is doing it. Horowitz: “Everybody else overcame it.” Kitsis: “But now we’re so in love with the BBC’s Sherlock, I don’t want to even play in that arena. We’ll never have Sherlock unless Benedict Cumberbatch wants to come on.”

Tron? Kitsis: “I could see Alan Bradley being the IT guy in Storybrooke.”

Mary Poppins? Kitsis: “In-bounds, but it won’t be this year.”

Let’s see, what else… Kitsis: “Are we doing Fifty Shades of Grey? Yes!”

Based on the casting call for Captain Hook, I also expected him to be a polite villain with whom one could sympathize. The writers did a great job of writing an antihero who was dishonorable and yet who possessed a code of chivalry. Colin O’Donoghue wonderfully portrayed a flawed character, who though unethical for stealing another man’s wife, came across as gallant for trying to defend the woman he loved. I think Milha and Killian truly loved each other, too, which is why he tried so hard to protect her against the Dark One. (Though why she couldn’t just be quiet and hand over the bean is beyond stupid on her’s and Killian’s parts).

TheGoldenKey worte: Sometimes the worst villains can be the most charming. That’s what makes them so dangerous.

I totally agree that sometimes charm can be very deceptive, and I expect we’ll see Killian Jones try to avenge Milha’s death by searching for the Dark One’s dagger. Also, there may be more to Killian’s story than we know. He could be related to Davy Jones, which might have set Killian on the path of piracy in the first place.

I posted this in the 2×4 thread, but it’s also relevant here. After watching 2×4, The Crocodile, we know Captain Hook followed a magical bean, which opened an underwater vortex to Neverland. The title for 2×7 is Into the Deep, and I think it may refer to the crew’s journey to Neverland and what happened after Hook’s ship pulled into port there.

Maybe we’ll meet a certain mermaid. I could see the writers easily blending the mermaids of Neverland with The Little Mermaid fairy-tale.

Also, I wonder if Baelfire’s bean led him to Neverland, so that he became Peter Pan. If Bae finds out about his mother, Milha, running off with Killian, I could see that sparking the famous rivalry between Peter Pan and Hook. Peter might blame Hook for taking away his mother.

Here it is. I think that pretty much solidifies the Whale is Frankenstein theory:

I think Milah will actually die. We see a body being thrown overboard in one of the promos. As for Hook, I don’t see him allowing himself to be tied down to one woman. As he said to Rumple, “I’ve had many a man’s wife”. I believe Hook lures women with his charms, has his way with them then passes them off to his crew to provide “companionship”.

Maybe the body being thrown overboard isn’t Milha’s, but is the body of some poor nameless wretch who crossed swords with the dread pirate, Killian Jones and lost. Also, it’s possible that Milha and Hook are lovers while also agreeing to have an “open relationship” in which Milha actually agrees to be a wench for the crew. While Killian may be a serial womanizer, I just don’t see him as murdering women and children. He at least has a “code” which he lives by, which seems to be dueling, not cold-blooded murder.

Phee wroteL Thanks for that confirmation. “EPIC scene”, huh? Eeeeeeek! If she was seen on set filming, it must be exterior stuff…in SB?

Cora coming to SB might just be the ultimate cliff-hanger before the holiday break. Last year, episode 7 was the last episode before the hiatus, and Graham remembered before Regina killed him. I think something majorly climatic will happen in 2×8, leaving everyone on the edge of their seats until January.

Phee wrote: At the moment, there may be a disconnect between the two storylines, but I’m thinking they’re gonna link up sooner rather than later. I’m assuming that Hook, (and Cora) will end up in SB. If that was the plan of the showrunners, to get them to SB from another world, then I think this was a very creative way to go about getting them there.

I agree. The writers have a way of bringing all of the seemingly lose ends together in a very satisfying way. While each character’s story seems to stand alone in an episode, they all finally coalesce in the end to create a grand narrative, just like in the S1 finale. I also think Hook and Cora are headed to SB, and I love how the writers chose to flush this out.

Not only has it thrown the show’s heroines into peril, it’s forced them to bond and begin the mother/daughter relationship that the fandom was eager to see. They wouldn’t have had that breakthrough if they were both still in SB, it only happened because they’d been thrown into this situation where they only had each other, and Emma was forced to see Snow as her mother. It’s fun to see Emma in her native land, and important for her to see the place she came from, (like, literally, she saw what would have been her nursery, that’s not something she ever could have imagined she’d get to see), because she’s had issues with her identity her entire life, and is only now beginning to learn who she really is. It’s great development for her character to have a reality check that there are some situations that she really can’t handle alone, so she has to let the tough exterior crack and learn how to be a vulnerable girl who can let her mother take the lead, a concept that’s completely foreign to her. None of this character development would have been possible if they’d remained in SB.

Exactly. Emma had to see FTL and experience it for herself for her to really come to terms with her identity and for her to realize just what her parents gave up. Snow and Emma having to rely on each other in a survivor-scenerio where Snow knows best is great TV. I’ve loved all of the episodes in S2, especially the mother-daughter bonding. I'll be excited to discover how Snow is able to communicate with Charming in SB. I also can't wait for Emma's episode and her and Hook racing to get a magical compass.

Also, it’s caused us to ask more questions about the curse. Here we thought it was broken, so it was over and done, but it turns out there was a part of FTL that was left untouched, and now we’ll get to discover more of how the curse really operated, and what caused it to behave that way.

Yes, this is the best way to show what happened to FTL, how many worlds were affected, and why part of the Enchanted Forest is still in tact. There’s not really a satisfying alternative. I suppose the writers could have a character tell us about it, but it’s infinitely more satisfying to show us through narrative.

Getting back to my first point about them joining up the two storylines, when that happens, it’ll impact multiple SB storylines. Emma will hopefully be in a better place to move forward with accepting her parents, and may well have a whole new outlook on how she wants to be a mother for Henry as well. If Cora comes back, that’ll mean **** for Regina. If Hook comes back, well, we now know he has a sordid history with Rumple, which will impact both of them if they’re back in the same town, and in turn that will affect Belle. And if they’re gonna be bringing Bae to town as well, that’ll mean that the real story of what happened to his mother will come out, assuming Rumple never told him the whole truth. Imagine an adultBae coming face to face with Hook, the man who took his mother.

I also think Emma’s absence from SB is vital to the plot-line for Henry’s father coming to SB. It’s highly suspenseful and way more mysterious for Henry to meet him without Emma immediately recognizing him. Emma not being in SB allows this other storyline to develop before her return. Then, as Phee said, Emma will be much more accepting of her identity and of her relationship with her parents and be a better mother, too. Also, Emma will be much more prepared to explore her past with Henry’s dad. IF Henry’s dad turns out to be Baelfire, it’ll be highly interesting if he meets Hook and also is reunited with Rumpel.

Anyway, basically, I guess what I’m saying is that IMO, the way they’ve split the storylines for now is a brilliant way for them to introduce new characters, develop existing ones, and set up new elements of the story which will play out during the coming season.

    Totally agree.

I wonder if Milha will actually die at the hands of the pirates, or whether she’ll just fake her own kidnapping and death, so as to make Rumpel give up on trying to get her back. From the brief clip of her in the bar, it seemed like she was really fed up with her marriage to Rumpel and ready to leave for adventure with Hook’s crew. Despite Milha seeming to care for her small son, maybe she faked her own death so as to make it “easer” for Baelfire to believe she’d died rather than abandoned him. Hook could tell Rumpel that Milha provides sexual favors for the crew trying as a way to make Rumpel believe Milha really has been kidnapped. Though I think Hook and Milha are really loves, and she may have fabricated the entire story as “cover” to make her family fully release her.
