ParticipantLoL. Ginny is not that subtle, calling the characters hypocrites and that they’d be willing to do anything.
Wow, I hadn’t seen that interview of Ginny and Josh before. You can really tell from Ginny’s demeanor and body language that she just isn’t buying it anymore. I think Josh was at least trying to give an account of what motivates his character, but you could hear in the tone of Ginny’s voice and by her curt answers that she’s totally done with this version of Snow White.

ParticipantAt this stage, I could (almost) care less about an Emma/Neal scene. I just really want a Henry/Daddy Neal scene! Henry deserves to see his dad one last time.

ParticipantI’m just satisfied it’s being brought up at all. It’s been the elephant in the room since season 3.

ParticipantDo you think that show jumped the shark?
If you do, when do you think it happened?
If you don’t, why?Call it what you will, but I think the show took a nosedive in S3b. For me, the last good episode was probably Going Home. I could’ve been satisfied with that episode being the entire series finale.

ParticipantI think it’s obviously Belle, given that (1) Emilie de Ravin is pregnant and (2) Rumple and Belle were very much shown to have re-consummated their marriage in 5×11. Their being in a relationship on a long-running series (5+ years) and Emilie being a series regular also fit the bill to a tee.

ParticipantThe problem with Neal returning to the land of the living, whether MRJ returns for Season 5 or not, is that MRJ is still a series regular on a different show on a competing network. He’s also not just a series regular on Game of Silence, but the 2nd billed lead of it. There’s already been talk of doing a 2nd Season, too. OUAT Season 5 is supposed to wrap up filming by April 1st, while Game of Silence doesn’t premiere until April 7th. Neal returning as a guest star this Season is one thing, but to expect him to actually return as a series regular is another thing entirely. Even if Adam and Eddy actually wanted him back permanently, there’s little they can do when the actor is already committed as a series regular on another show.
Firstly, I qualified by reply by saying, “However, that would probably be too much to expect from these writers. I don’t trust them to handle Neal’s likely return nearly that well.” At the end of the day, I think it depends what the writers intend for Neal’s character (if they even intend anything all). For example, Neal could return to the land of the living but not stay in SB. For instance, he could always return to Manhattan. From a narrative stance, Neal’s apartment has repetitively been shown, leaving open that door of possibility for Neal’s possible return. Neal doesn’t have to resume a romance with Emma. Neal could simply return to Manhattan, and Henry could always visit his dad in NYC during his summer break. Secondly, we don’t know for sure how much longer the show is going to last or whether there even will be a season 6. We also don’t know yet if there will be a season 2 for Game of Silence or if MRJ’s character even survives for the second season. All being said, we just don’t know what to expect. This (probably) is just going be a one-off cameo (assuming this blind item even is about MRJ putting in an appearance as Neal).

ParticipantI can believe this could be about Neal. There’s no one writer credited with the article, and if Matt had anything to do with writing it, he’s someone who I could see labeling Neal as a fan fave. Maybe no other writer would, but Matt was a Neal fan, and as such would be aware that there are indeed many in the fandom who loved the crap outta Neal. The bit about filming in secret still fits if MRJ shot his scenes and was finished before any of those pics of him in Van surfaced. The bit about it being a tricky thing to pull off, given how the character was written off, could refer to how they’ve insisted that Neal is deader than dead. Or (conspiracy theory time) it could refer to it haven taken some convincing to get the actor back, given how their character was treated by being killed off in such a stupid way. And this article popping up right after the speculation of Neal’s return. I could see Matt going to A&E to ask about it, and them saying they didn’t want it officially confirmed, so they agreed to the blind item instead. Basically, all things considered, I’m calling shenanigans and getting all my tables lined up for easy flipping when Neal likely shows up in some infuriating circumstance.
THIS. For all the reasons mentioned above, I think Neal is coming back (or at the very least, MRJ is putting in an appearance).
Also, from the article:
Although a cynical few might have thought such a homecoming would never happen, the truth is that the returning star quite enthusiastically went to great lengths to disguise his/her identity while en route to the set, where the hush-hush scenes were filmed under close guard, and strictly indoors.
If this is about MRJ, I could see him being happy enough to return to the set in secret. Just because many fans were disappointed when Neal left, it doesn’t mean the actor left on bad terms. He is a professional; actors get cut all the time. He understands that the decision probably came from the top at ABC and that A&E probably didn’t like to see MRJ leave when he did. MRJ putting in an appearance for the sake of closure for Neal might be MRJ’s way of trying to honor the memory of the character that many people did like. I also think MRJ might’ve been expecting to return at some point to this show, which is why he has been so silent on his sudden departure in 2013; he never gave a proper exit interview for OUAT the way he did for True Blood after S1 when his character left that show. A&E have also openly said they’d love to work with MRJ again.
Also I would not consider Neal a fan favorite, at least not the way AA and Matt M view OUAT. They both follow the fandom (Matt M more so) and they know that CS/SQ is a far more popular ship and that any time Neal is mentioned they are hit with a ton of negativity. So there’s far too many X’s against this to be Neal to make it confirmed.
Even though there are many vocal fans of a certain ilk who didn’t like his character, I still think many fans did. Even if some people didn’t like Emma and Neal romantically, they did like the dynamic Neal had with Rumple and Henry. After all, Neal was nominated for Most Missed Character by the People Choice Awards last year. And if Matt M. wrote this blind article, it would be in keeping with his previous coverage of Neal since MRJ left the show. He was considered the Most Missed Character in 2015 by TV Line.
From the article:
As for the on-screen ramifications of the long-gone character’s reappearance, one should expect more than a little drama. His/her timing… could be better, yeah.
Interesting…If handled correctly, this could be done well. Henry needs closure with his dad, and Rumple needs a way to atone for how poorly he’s behaved since Neal traded his life for his papa. If this Underworld thing drags on until the end of the season, I could totally see Rumple staying behind in the Underworld to let Neal return to the land do the living as a way to atone for how horribly Rumple screwed up his second chance (especially if Robert Carlyle leaves after this season since his contract will be up). However, that would probably be too much to expect from these writers. I don’t trust them to handle Neal’s likely return nearly that well.
