Since Cora crushed Daniel’s heart in 1×18 into dust, I think that there’s no way Regina could have it.

Has anyone else raised this idea?

    That’s a great theory!

Has it been confirmed MRJ is in 2×9?

This Sunday that means the eagerly anticipated introduction of a sexy young Captain Hook. But the following week expect Once to journey to a new world unlike any we’ve seen before on the show. Plus, producers will eventually take Once characters to the Land of Oz and introduce their version of the Little Mermaid. And after bringing in Mulan and Lancelot this year, producers are not ruling out figures from other genre-bursting non-fairy tale sources (like, say, Moby Dick, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and Tron).

😮 Wow – so I think this confirms we get to see Dr. Frankenstein in 2×5! Also, I’m sooooo excited for the Little Mermaid! Plus we get to see literary figures like Moby Dick and Tom Sawyer, plus Tron! Too much!

‘Once Upon’: How Robert Carlyle created Rumpelstiltskin
Once Upon a Time‘s Rumpelstiltskin is arguably broadcast TV’s most extreme character, a devilish, vindictive, childish wizard who offers to fulfill desperate wishes “for a price.” Actor Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting, 28 Weeks Later) plays fairy tale land’s Rumple and his sober Storybrooke alter ego Mr. Gold, and put plenty of thought into the creation of both characters. Here’s some secrets about both, and be sure to check out this Sunday’s episode, which features a key Rumple storyline. Also, hey look at this week’s cover of Entertainment Weekly — it’s Once Upon a Time!

Origins: “I knew Rumpelstiltskin’s name but I didn’t know anything else about him,” Carlyle says. “Everyone thinks they know Rumpelstiltskin but they don’t really. The lines I was given to perform seemed to be begging to be taken as far from normality as possible. I thought, ‘The braver the [performance] better.’”

The voice: “There’s no way I could speak in my normal voice while looking so extraordinary and while having this bizarre stuff to say,” the actor reasoned. “I tried many different types of voices and the thing that I landed on was completely by chance, really, thanks to my son. He was wandering though the house making these high-pitched voices and sounds I thought, ‘Rumpelstiltskin has a child-like quality to him, he kind of enjoys gleefully tricking people.’”

The reasoning: “He’s 300 years old. He’s met so many people over the years that he’s been impressed and unimpressed by, he’s taken on their voices, he’s taken on their accents and their mannerisms. He’s layered so much he’s lost himself.” Once Upon showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis point out that every time we meet Rumple in fairy tale land he’s in a slightly different time period and so therefore Carlyle actually uses a slightly different voice every single time to show this gradual layering effect.

Less is more: “One of the things I spoke about with [Horowitz and Kitsis] is that we shouldn’t over-use this character. If you overuse something like Rumple, you begin to see how it works and it becomes less attractive. He’s the kind of character the audience should look forward to seeing, rather than hitting you with it week after week, I don’t think that would work.”

Mr. Gold: “I try to keep him absolutely neutral,” he says. “I almost do [Mr. Gold] in slow motion. It’s the exact opposite of what I’m doing with Rumpelstiltskin. He resonates calm. There’s not many times as an actor you get to play the opposite ends of the scale.”

Yes, I really hope so! I don’t think the exec-producers can keep Emma and Snow in the EF for all of S2, especially if they intend to bring over more villains to SB. The protagonists would be overwhelmed without more backup. I hope Mulan (and even annoying Aurora) make it to SB, along with Phillip and Lancelot. (I don’t think either is really dead).

Does true loves kiss only work the once or something?

I don’t think there’s a limit to the number of times a true love’s kiss would work. Although Snow was cursed, it was actually a poison, so maybe a kiss wasn’t a powerful enough antidote. True love’s kiss is not powerful enough to bring someone back from the dead, but is is powerful enough to awaken someone from a sleeping curse. Perhaps being rendered barren by a poison falls somewhere in the middle of the spectrum, and so requires a more powerful antidote like water from Lake Gnostos.

Why not just ASK to be taken to the vault?

I don’t think this is so much a plot-hole as much as a choice that Henry made. Although he could ask Regina for help, I don’t think he’s ready to forgive her. He blames her for trying to kill Emma and Snow White and for them going missing. Henry doesn’t trust Regina at all, and he doesn’t want to ask for her help, as Jefferson suggested he ought to do. He’s upset, and until then, Prince Charming hadn’t wanted Henry to help. Henry’s decision to take matters into his own hands was very much in keeping with his actions in S1 when he climbed down the mine shaft to look for clues or ate the apple turn-over. He’s a lot like Prince Charming, Snow White, and Emma in his determination.

Also how could Cora be in the pit and acting as Lancelot at the same time? In 28 years did no one ever happen to notice her missing from the pit when pretending to be Lancelot?

My first guess is that the pit is a big, dark space, and so it’d be easy enough to hide down there. Cora was in the shadows when she first revealed herself to Emma. Cora could’ve pretended to hide out in the cave while she was in Lancelot’s form. Also, her magic allows to appear and disappear really quickly. My second guess is that Cora might be a powerful enough witch to make it seem like she’s both in the pit and Lancelot at the same time.

Finally if she was trapped in Wonderland with Jefferson why did Jefferson end up in Storybrooke, and Cora end up in the Enchanted Forrest?

The executive producers have said we’re going to learn the answer to this type of question as S2 unfolds. My own theory is that the different worlds seen in Jefferson’s hat portal somehow got mixed together as a result of the curse, bringing people from Wonderland and Neverland to the Enchanted Forest. That is perhaps why Captain Hook and Cora are stranded there in the present day. Another theory I read is that since Regina unleashed the dark curse, she may have had the power to choose which people she brought over to SB and which people remained behind. If that’s true, then Regina would want to keep Cora as far away from SB as possible, while wanting to keep Jefferson close by in case he could be of any further use to her.

This for sure has to be Cora’s backstory.

I posted this in the 2×8 thread, but I think it belongs here instead. Once Upon a Fan UK reported:

Looks like we are heading back to Wonderland this season. Paul McGillion, who played the Queen of Heart’s official speaker, tweeted that he was excited to be back on set again.

    Now about those Cora theories!

Yes! I think “Into the Deep” might refer to Captain Hook’s backstory. His other alias is Killian Jones, which reminds me of “Davy Jones.”
