ParticipantI don’t really get why Alice is pointing the gun at Rumple even though he seems to have told her to….probably to wake him up somehow.

ParticipantRaise your hand if you think Victoria is actually Rapunzel…..
Victoria Belfry‘s surname seems to be a clear indicator that she is connected with a bell tower. Also, her hair is short brown but with yellow tips, and she said she doesn’t wield magic. Yet, she is obsessed with magic and its ability to bring back the dead. All of those things just scream Rapunzel in Tangled who had magical long blonde hair that could restore life and beauty until it was cut short and turned brown. Victoria Belfry was probably once an young woman who loved someone like Flynn and managed to save his life with her last magical tear after her hair had been cut short, turning brown and losing her magic in the process. Now she is a grieving, embittered mother who wishes she could wield life-saving magic like she perhaps once did. She wants to use magic, however dark, to restore the life of Anastasia, whose name means resurrection.
I’m going to post a theory of a spoiler I saw.
The BTS picture of Emma Booth and Colin is interesting. I wonder if perhaps there is going to be some “twist” in typical Once fashion where the villain is actually a misunderstood anti-hero and the heroine is actually a villain (e.g. Peter Pan and Captain Hook). Mother Gothel could actually be Wish Hook’s daughter who was imprisoned by Victoria (aka Rapunzel).

ParticipantAnyone else notice the firebird on the back on Jacinda’s jacket in HH?

ParticipantI think the title unambiguously points towards the community garden with the wishing well in which both Lucy and Jacinda made a wish. Also, I think the garden clearly alludes the original German Rapunzel fairytale, in which a father stole a rapunzel from Dame Gothel’s garden to satisfy his pregnant wife’s craving for the plant (aka rampion). Both husband and wife ended up having to pay the ultimate price: their daughter for a plant.

ParticipantHere is to hoping that tonight we’ll get some more SF parallels between Henry and his Cinderella! 😀

ParticipantI thought this episode would be about Alice given the title but it seems to be focused on Cinderella.

ParticipantAfter trying to hide and suppress the central symbolism of the the SF keychain for so long, it’s rather intriguing that the keychain has shown up not only in the first episode but also in the second in season seven. That’s two for two. I wonder how many times it’s going to resurface this season. The Swan keychain just screams how vital it once was to Emma’s characterization and her connection to Henry’s father. It nearly brings tears to my eyes how much wasted potential there was yet how much potential there is still for Henry to carry on his own parents’ legacy while being determined not to repeat their mistakes. The keychain is Henry’s symbol now; it was born of true love just like he was.

Participant“If he knew what really happened, he’d drop everything and come back. She wants to let him get on with his life.”
“What really happened”? That’s an odd way to speak about a pregnancy and why wouldn’t Emma want Henry to know he was going to have a half-brother? And she thinks he’d stop his life if he knew? Maybe it was just a badly written line and they were trying not to spoil the pregnancy “surprise,” but someone asked Adam on Twitter how this really explained Emma’s absence for the rest of the season and he responded that it would all make sense by the end of the season. He also said, “We’re fully aware that NOT seeing Emma needs to make sense logically given her character and who she is.” Is there more there?
I agree that it is suspicious and odd. Do you have a link for the Twitter post that Adam wrote? I’d be curious to read it. Emma having a high-risk pregnancy would have made some sense about why she couldn’t come help Henry, but Emma appeared to be fine when she finally did show up. Sure, she looked a bit haggard next to Hook, but she has looked that way since season five. Emma wasn’t even showing which meant she could only have been in her first trimester. The only time doctors usually advise pregnant women not to travel by air is in their third trimester when they could deliver early. Emma not coming because Hook wanted her to rest could only have made sense if she were on bed rest and under doctor’s order not to travel, but the fact that she was able to travel and only in her first stage of pregnancy meant that Hook’s extreme precaution unfortunately came across a bit like Anakin Skywalker’s paranoia in Revenge of the Sith.

Participant@nevermore – Hello! The scholarly article you cited looks interesting. I only gave it a cursory glance. I’ll have to read more later, but it is super interesting how much the Internet has impacted popular culture and the way fans interact with media, showrunners, actors, and each other. The other thing that really hit home was what is “canon” vs. “fanon” and how shipping really impacts the way different groups see things.
How’s the show going so far? Can’t quite bring myself to watch it yet…
7×1 was okay at setting up a “new chapter” but there was a lot of clunky writing. 7×2 had some cute moments with Adult Henry and his new family, but the CS moments were terrible (although thankfully short). It was painful to watch Emma’s final character assassination, but at least CS is totally done, and it should make for a more watchable show. At least the Hook who continues on in S7 has no real connection to Emma Swan, who will never return to our screen if Jennifer Morrison has anything to say about it.

ParticipantAfter 7×2, I’d almost be willing to bet that Regina and Wish Hook become an item.
