ParticipantI think your theory is a real possibility. In episode 1×12 Skin Deep, Regina went to visit Rumplestiltksin to see about a “certain mermaid.” There is a lot of speculation that we'll be seeing Ariel in season 2!

Okay, I’ll keep the call. Sorry for all of the back-an-forth.
I also call that Rumpel/Mr. Gold will use the medallion to reverse his curse of being the Dark One.

ParticipantGoing off of those comments, alchemy was the search to create the fabled philosopher’s stone (also known as the sorcerer’s stone to Harry Potter fans in the USA). The legend of the philosopher’s stone is that the stone could turn base metals like lead into precious metals like gold and would grant immortality to the one who possessed the stone. In OUaT-legend, we know Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltksin could make gold from straw and that he’s been alive for centuries (and is likely immortal). In a sense, Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltksin IS the philosopher’s stone.
I have a new theory starting to develop. In alchemy, white arsenic was considered a key step to making the philosopher’s stone. White arsenic “helps to make the pill of immortality, the conclusion of the Great Work, or search for the philosopher’s stone to transmute base elements into gold.” What if the reversed (upside-down) symbol of white arsenic on Rumpel’s medallion represents Rumpel’s curse being reversed? 😮
In the new promo for s2, there is a brief glimpse of Mr.Gold/Rumpel is holding up his knife (with his name on it) to the medallion with the reversed symbol of white arsenic. I wonder if he is performing a ritual which he believes will help reverse his curse of being the Dark One. Adam and Eddy said S2 is all about redemption and second chances. I’d like to see Mr. Gold/Rumpel find his happy ending.

ParticipantOn tumblr I found more research about which symbol Rumpel’s medallion could be, and I don’t think it’s a rune at all. It’s an alchemical sign for white arsenic, found here: http://www.symbols.com/encyclopedia/05/0520.html
Rumpel’s symbol is reversed upside down, but otherwise, the symbols match almost exactly. All credit for the research goes to this awesome tumblr site: http://epistolaryconnotations.tumblr.com/post/31540430648/omg-you-guys-i-found-it
I did a little bit more research on white arsenic, also known as arsenic trioxide. It is extremely deadly if ingested and was often used to poison one’s enemies in times past. Here’s an interesting theory about the mysterious deaths of a prominent Italian couple in 1587: http://www.bmj.com/content/333/7582/1299.full
According to wikipedia, despite having a very high toxicity level, white arsenic has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine (known as Pi Shuang) to treat cancers. It’s used in Western medicine as a second-line chemotherapy when first lines of defense don’t work in cancer treatment.

ParticipantPhee wrote: Just coz they’re shooting near where SB is though, doesn’t necessarily mean that the area they’re shooting is also meant to portray SB, it may have just been the easiest place they could set up a shoot with a big ship. But it’d be really cool if the ship is in SB.
I see your point about the ship possibly not being on the set of SB, just near the set. The excited fangirl in me though wishes that Captain Hook would make his debut in our world, because I loved the movie Hook starring Robin Williams as a child. Also, in the promo, we saw Hook break into Mr. Gold’s pawn shop, so I’m looking forward to that possibly coming true. 😀

Here is further confirmation that Jorge Garcia is indeed currently filming on set of OUaT. His girlfriend, Bethany Shady, tweeted the following on Sept. 14:
So, I think it’s safe to conclude that we’ll indeed be seeing Jack and the Beanstalk in episode 2×6.

ParticipantHere’s Jennifer Morrison’s tweet:
I’m pretty sure that is the harbor outside Steveston, BC, where the set of Storybrooke is based. I have a feeling that Captain Hook has finally come to SB on his ship, the way that Peter Pan flew Hook’s ship to London using a little bit of pixie dust. Here’s a clos-up of that ship:

ParticipantThis would mean Emma turns 17 in fall of 1996, gives birth to Henry in March of 97. That would mean the show started in 1997 and it is now March of 1998 at the end of the season.
Great detective work, hjbau. I assume you meant to write the show’s pilot was set in fall 2007, and that it’s now roughly March, 2008 by the end of S1.
There is as bit of a discrepancy though. How do you know Henry was born in March of 1997? Emma wasn’t 16 when she was arrested; she was 17. The article clearly says that when she “was merely a girl of seventeen, Emma Swan found herself, ironically, on the wrong side of the law.” Which was in June, 1996.
Also, in episode 1×4 The Price of Gold, Emma told Ashley that she was 18 when she had Henry. That would mean Emma was 17 when she got arrested and 18 when when she gave birth in jail. She would have been 17 in June of 1996 and would have turned 18 a few months later in the fall of 1996. Emma would have had Henry on her 18th birthday, since Henry is 10 years old when he shows up on Emma’s 28th birthday. That means the show is set in 2006, 10 years after Emma’s time in jail.

David Anders’ teasing we’ll NEVER guess makes me wonder about Neverland, but maybe that’s just Anders wanting to throw us off the game. Here I am back to second-guessing myself. I’m just going to sit back and enjoy the reveal when it comes.
