Amazing photos! From these though, I still can’t tell which side Dr. Whale is on, the Charmings’ or Regina’s.
Prince Charming seems to be threatening Dr. Whale:

Here Dr. Whale looks to be mocking Regina for not having magic:
Dr. Whale could be either threatening Regina or secretly siding with her:
Dr. Whale could be either mediating between Emma and Regina or perhaps warning Emma:

    Love the Charmings’ reunion:

Phee wrote: I keep thinking that the symbol on that medallion looks Asian, but that’s just because I know we’re getting Mulan, and she also has a gold medallion. Quick searches bring up no Chinese symbols that resemble it. I also keep thinking it looks kind of like a bird.

Yeah, I definitely agree with you that the medallion appears Asian and possibly links to Mulan’s story. Elsewhere I speculated that the medallian could’ve once belonged to Mulan, since in the Disney telling of the story, her crest had a dragon on it. Also, it could be a tie-in to Maleficent. Perhaps what you think looks like a bird could be a representation of a dragon with wings? It’s a bit of a stretch for the image to be a dragon, but it might be an ancient rudimentary engraving.

And now I’m also thinking how much the middle bit looks like this “protection” rune:
    http://www.paranormality.com/runes.shtml#ALGIZ
…but stuffed if I know what the other bits on it would mean.

That medallion has me all confused.

I’m with you about being confused by this rune (if it even is a rune). I like your idea of the medallion possibly being “protective” rather than destructive. Just sounds a bit nicer for the kids watching this with their families.

Marilou wrote: As much as I would like to see daniel back on the show, I hope it is only in the past (with young regina and what not) with a bit of luck they will implement the LOST rule that “dead is dead” you don’t get to comeback from that. Bringing people back from the dead is always a messy business anyway.

I see what you mean about it being “messy” to bring back someone to life. Nevertheless, there is a theory about a “new weapon” being introduced in S2, which has been speculated to be the medallian Rumpel holds up in the promos for the upcoming season. Check out the promos here: https://oncepodcast.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=1444. Also, AntBee speculated that the rune could be the “Rune of the Grave” which could be linked to possible sightings of Daniel around town in episode 2×5. Here is what the mediallian looks like:

PriceofMagic wrote: I wouldn’t mind Daniel in the present so much if he was like a ghost haunting Regina or in a dream sequence but I wouldn’t want him brought back to life. His death is what motivates Regina against Snow, him being alive would make Regina unnecessary. Regina’s redemption should come with her letting go of the past and moving on with her life.

Yes, I see what you mean about Daniel’s death being Regina’s motivation for revenge. If she were to see a ghost of Daniel (thanks to the rune), she might hear how disappointed Daniel is in what Regina has become (evil and full of hate). If Regina heard from the “other side” this might be one way for her to regret what she has done and become and start her on the road to redemption.

But if the Onceiverse method whereby Alice and the White Rabbit come into Wonderland has the same rule as the hat – same number that go in must come out – perhaps Jefferson could be Alice’s +1 when she leaves?

I love this thought! If Alice entered Wonderland by following the white rabbit and she got stuck there, she’d have needed another person to escape with (well, not according to the original telling of the story, but maybe by OUaT’s retelling of the story). Jefferson could be her (and his) ticket out of Wonderland. At the same time, I always wondered if Alice were Grace’s mother, which would mean Jefferson and Alice knew each other long before he got trapped in Wonderland by Regina. Perhaps Grace’s mom is someone else altogether though.

Here’s the tweet that confirms Jarod Joseph (who plays Billy) is set to return to OUaT. In case you’re wondering, Anthony Hemingway is set to direct the episode.

I have a feeling that the names “Quinn” and “Anita” could be fake names so that actors trying out for the roles don’t necessarily know which characters they’re to portray. The name “Anastasia” was used for the casting call of Princess Aroura/Sleeping Beauty, to throw off even the actresses trying out for the role. Sinqua Walls, who plays Lancelot, said in an interview he wasn’t sure at first which character he was trying out for, though he had a feeling it’d be Lancelot based on the character’s description. Even when he got an initial call-back, they didn’t confirm which character it was until he’d been officially offered the role.

Phee wrote: The theory of Dr Whale being Merlin may just have vanished in a puff of smoke. Bugger, I really liked that theory.

I really liked that theory, too! I would’ve preferred Dr. Whale be Merlin than Dr. Frankenstein, because it’d be a super cool reveal for Dr. Whale to be an all-power good wizard to take on Regina. Nevertheless, I’m excited about possibly getting to see someone play Merlin (Quinn) and his back-story! Should be awesome!

AntBeeI think it also likely that he was the one that gave Granny the magic cape for Red because the actor who portrays Billy, Red’s friend/boyfriend(?), is returning for episode 7. Maybe Red becomes too much of a danger in her wolf form, and then we have two characters that are able to do “good” magic who can perhaps make a new cloak for her or find her old one that way she and Granny aren’t forced to make any deals right now with Rumple, Regina, or Hook.

Interesting thought! I’ve been wondering who Billy could be. It’d be an interesting twist if Billy is a powerful wizard who was reduced to a humbler profession of a mechanic in SB by the curse. I can sort of see the connection. Billy could be a “wizard” at fixing car engines. yet, why bother putting out a casting call for another actor if they already have someone (i.e. Billy) in mind who was cast in S1? Maybe it’s just customary to advertise publicly a potential acting job, even when the casting director already has someone in mind for the role.

Also, I wonder if Quinn/Merlin is going to be Emma’s love interest/fling this season.

I have a feeling that if Quinn/Merlin is the wizard who helped out Red in FTL, then he’s going to be Ruby’s new love interest in SB. Since Red tragically killed her love, Peter, while in wolf form, I really want her to find happiness with someone good like Merlin.

I’m guessing Anita is Morgana then.

Intriguing! I’ve haven’t seen much of the BBC show Merlin, but isn’t Morgana the evil sorceress who tried to take King Aurthur’s throne and is his half- sister? Based on the character’s description, it’s hard to tell if she’s going to be evil or good. On the one hand, the fact that “Anita” lived far apart from her family fits with what I know about Morgana. Yet, it says she’s “extremely protective of others such as herself.” That sounds like it could be a good thing, which doesn’t fit with what I know of Morgana.

Cora did wear a tad of color in Stable Boy, but interestingly, it was mostly maroon. Could be a hint she is in fact the QoH. Can anyone make out what pendant her necklace is?:

TheGoldenKey wrote: Now we have photos of something occurring with Dr. Whale’s arm or possibly him having his arm torn off. Does he have his arm in the cooler so he can surgically sew it back on? Lots to ponder. Oh, let’s not forget that his identity reveal will be on the Halloween episode. Werewolves & Frankie! Love it!

Wow, this is a really well-thought-out theory! I really like it, and it would certainly be a deviation from what I think of as a classic fairy-tale, since it’s more like science fiction or horror. I agree that it’s also a really good fit for a Halloween episode. Makes more sense than him being Peter Pan.

Just to clarify, does your theory mean that Dr. Whale is both Dr. Frankenstein and the monster he created? After all, Ruby is both Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. If he is also the monster, it might explain the picture above of Dr. Whale with pale monster-like arms and also why his limbs might be falling off in SB now that magic has come. The picture of Dr. Whale with monster-arms fits the description of Mary Shelly’s novel Frankenstein. At first I thought it was just a bogus picture that David Anders posted to fool us all, but now I think it’s a leaked photo of him getting ready for his FTL back-story as the monster of Dr. Frankenstein.

    From wikipedia:

The details of the monster’s construction are left ambiguous, but [Dr.] Frankenstein finds himself forced to make the creature roughly eight feet tall because of the difficulty in replicating the minute parts of the human body. His creation, which he has hoped would be beautiful, is instead hideous, with dull yellow eyes, and a withered, translucent, yellowish skin that barely conceals the muscular system and blood vessels. After bringing his creation to life, Victor is repulsed by his work: he flees the room, and the monster disappears. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankenstein
