Although they said they had Hook ready and waiting for if they did get the rights, it wouldn’t have made sense to set up Whale as Peter Pan only to find out that they didn’t get the rights. Does that make sense?

I suppose I just don’t see the issue. Peter Pan certainly would be iconic, and the fact Kitsis and Horowitz didn’t have the rights to the story in season 1 actually helps explain why they waited to reveal his identity until season 2. They just recently obtained the rights to all of the characters from Peter Pan, not just Captain Hook, in time for S2. They may have been especially mysterious and vague with his character details, not giving too many hints, thus leaving open the possibility that he could be any number of characters (just in case they didn’t obtain the legal rights to the tale).

I’m not claiming he has to be Peter Pan, but I don’t think we can rule out the possibility just because of the timing of the reveal. If anything, I think this adds to the case of him being Peter. Kitsis and Horowitz have said the story is one of their all-time favorite fairy-tales. It just makes sense that they waited until now to reveal his identity if he is in fact Peter.

When it comes to the possibility of Dr. Whale being Triton, I agree that certain characteristics you wrote about fit pretty well. Yet, there are also the other characteristics from the spoof dating video to consider.

    – Looking for a good time
    – Delightfully mysterious
    -Good at making friends.
-Didn’t want any “stuck-ups” or “prudes”
    -“Sparks will fly.” –Dr. Whale.
    -Doctor.

How does it make sense for Triton being such a player and a womanizer? I also don’t think Triton was that great at having fun or at making friends. I think there a quite a few loose ends to consider.

I’m not sure what to make of Mushu. It’d certainly be entertaining. Lol! šŸ˜€

Hmmmm…… I just rewatched 1×11, and now I’m not so certain about the true fate of Snow’s mother. In 1×11, King Leopold gave a toast about his Snow White, whom he said reminded him of her “dearly departed” mother, the fairest in all the land. “Dearly departed” is what is usually said about someone who has died. However, it could be that King Leopold was allowing his kingdom and his daughter to believe his wife had died, for shame of the truth that she left him and Snow White to care for Lancelot. Who knows?

I think this is a new reveal, probably from 2×2, which we know will have a flash-back to FTL of how Regina met Rumpel, and presumably Cora, the miller’s daughter. It’s been theorized we’d learn how Regina learned magic. Well, take a look at Cora holding what appears to be a book of spells.

It looks like the same one Regina was holding in filming shots from 2×1. So, presumably, Regina inherited or stole her mother’s book of spells! 😮

hjbau wrote: I don’t think Charming lost his sword at the bottom of the lake in that scene.

I hadn’t watched 1×13 since it aired, but I went and rewatched the episode on the DVD. Prince Charming did drop his sword in the lake at the very beginning of entering the shallow water.

However, in the next scene that hjbau captured an image of, Prince Charming has his sword again. So, either he went back and picked up his sword after killing the siren (we the audience didn’t see this happen), or this is an error on the part of the director and producers.

I still think the siren from 1×13 could be the Lady of the Lake, who can impersonate anyone else, depending on whom she’s trying to lure to their deaths. I did a quick internet research about the Lady of the Lake legend. Like Phee wrote, there are many varieties of this legend.

According to Wikipedia, the poet Alfred Tennyson wrote about the Lady of the Lake as being two different people:

Modern authors of Arthurian fiction adapt the Lady of the Lake legend in various ways, often using two or more bearers of the title. Alfred Tennyson adapted several stories of the Lady of the Lake for his poetic cycle Idylls of the King. He splits her into two characters; Viviane is a deceitful villain who ensnares Merlin, while the Lady of the Lake is a benevolent figure who raises Lancelot and gives Arthur his sword.

This supports my theory that the siren could be Viviane, the “deceitful villain who ensnared Merlin”.
I have a theory that Merlin is Dr. Whale, so I’d love to see the evil Viviane (aka the evil siren/Lady of the Lake) be his unrequited love interest, since it’d be an interesting tale.

It also leaves open the possibility of there being a secondary lady of the lake who is a “benevolent figure who raises Lancelot.” What if Snow’s mother is the benevolent figure who raised baby Lancelot while the siren was the evil figure who tried to lure Charming to his death in 1×13?

Phee wrote: This couldn’t somehow work into the “complicated relationship” Lancelot has with Snow, could it? Lady of the Lake couldn’t have been Snow’s mother, could she? And when she was given the task to save baby Lancelot, she had to choose between that or staying with her daughter, and she chose the former? Has it been specifically said Snow’s mother died, or is she just ambiguously “lost”?

I think it’s plausible that the Lady of the Lake could also be Snow White’s long lost mother. In 1×18, Snow White said she didn’t want Regina to lose her mother like she’d lost hers, but never said her mother was dead. In 1×18, King Leopold said he’d lost Snow’s mother years ago, (but didn’t say it was the result of death).

As far as Snow’s and Lancelot’s “complicated relationship” it could refer to Lancelot being her mother’s adopted child (aka Snow’s adopted brother). If Lancelot were raised by Snow’s mother (who had to leave her daughter with Leopold), perhaps Snow never knew the truth of her mother’s fate. Perhaps Leopold led Snow to believe her mother had died, but really she’d left in secret to raise Lancelot.

If Snow discovered the truth after her father’s death but before meeting Prince Charming, things would be very hard on her. Snow White would have a “complicated relationship” with her adopted brother, Lancelot, and she’d be dealing with feelings of resentment towards him and her mother for leaving. Prince Charming may not know any of this, because Snow has a lot of emotional baggage to work through on her own, and it might have been hushed by King Leopold for the shame of his wife’s leaving. I hope this is the case, because I’m not looking forward to a possible love triangle again between Prince Charming, Snow White, and someone new like Lancelot. I don’t want Charming to be Arthur or for Snow White to be Guinevere.

I also found some further speculation about the spoiler here:

There is news that MRJ will be guest staring in the season 2 premiere!

According to Zap2it, in episode 2.01 will be guest starring: Raphael Sbarge, Lee Arenberg, David Anders, Keegan Connor Tracy, Michael Raymond James, Beverley Elliott, Sarah Bolger, Jamie Chung, David Paul Grove, Gabe Khouth, Faustino Di Bauda, Jeffrey Kaiser, Michael Coleman, Mig Macario, Julian Morris.

We knew about all these except Michael Raymond Jones (who plays a ā€œmysterious characterā€). We knew he’d been cast but we had no idea he’s be on the show as soon as 2.01.

I keep thinking back to to episode 1×13 What Happened to Frederick in which Prince Charming volunteered to defeat the siren of Lake Gnostos (who could be the “Lady of the Lake”). The siren resembled Snow White so as to tempt Prince Charming, and he slayed the siren and lost his sword at the bottom of the lake. Could the sword be Excalibur? Perhaps the sword was lost to time but Rumpel somehow retrieved that which was lost from the magical lake, because we know Mr. Gold had it in his pawn shop in the season 1 finale.

Phee wrote: Here’s the pic of the sign for the stables. Was posted on tumblr on Aug 31st.

Could that be where the pic of Josh with the horse was taken? If so, how could Charming and Daniel fit in a scene together, I wonder.

Interesting! Perhaps David (aka Josh Dallas) will take up horseback riding again in SB, now that he remembers he is Prince Charming. Could Daniel somehow be alive in SB and working as the stable boy there? Since true love has the power the break any curse, perhaps magic created from true love and put into an enchanted well could bring back that which was lost (aka Daniel)!

AntBee wrote:Yes, he[David] was “married to Kathryn” because of the Curse, but under the Curse his behavior was a lot worse, at least from what we’ve seen, then Dr. Whale’s and Mary Margaret’s behavior.

Oh, I completely agree that David’s behavior was a lot worse that Dr. Whale’s during the curse. All I’m saying is that based on how Prince Charming understands the world, it isn’t very noble for a man to sleep with a woman on the first date and then never call again. Prince Charming will be mad at himself for how he himself treated Mary Margaret. He may thus take out some of his own self-hatred on an outward target like Dr. Whale, once he learns what happened while David was in a comma. Guys, more than girls, tend to take on their anger in physical form. Yet, once it’s done, they can move on.
