ParticipantI think that Mr. Gold lied to Regina about the curse breaking when Emma dies. I think he very intentionally wants to keep Emma alive so she can break the curse. The best way to ensure Regina doesn’t kill Emma is for him to say that killing her would cause the curse to break. Regina certainly wants to keep the curse intact so she can keep her power.

ParticipantI’m not sure that Regina actually could re-write Jefferson’s and his daughter’s stories in SB. She may have just been telling him what she thinks he wants to hear. I think back to when MM awoke David from his comma. Regina hypnotized David by sending him to Mr. Gold’s shop in which he gazed at the windmill and was implanted with false memories about a fake marriage to Kathryn. Perhaps the reason Regina was able to come up with that story is because he’d yet to be implanted with any false story. She may not be able to implant David with yet another backstory. It could be a one-off situation in which each character can only be given one fake SB identity.

ParticipantWhile I think that Regina has suspected who Emma ever since episode 2, I don’t think that Regina confirmed it in her mind until episode 7 in which Emma caused Graham to remember his FTL identity. Also, I think what further confirmed it was when Emma found out that Regina framed Mary Margaret. Regina, who already suspected Emma’s identity, probably thought, “She must be Snow White’s daughter.” Regina has been able to read the signs, like MM awakening David from a comma, the tower clock starting, the mines collapsing, and Graham remembering. Regina isn’t always smart enough to avoid bad deals with Rumpel, but she is at least clever enough to figure out Emma is the savior. I think the reason the writers didn’t reveal it until now is because as viewers, we’ve been seeing things mostly form Emma’s point of view in SB. We tend to discover things about the town at the same rate Emma does. We’ve only seen the true motives of Regina in episode 18 and the motives of Mr. Gold in episode 19. As audience members, we’re just beginning to see the bigger picture, as is Emma.

ParticipantI’m very excited to see MM and David becoming more like their FTL selves. That is definitely an indicator at that the curse is indeed weakening. So excited for finale in which both characters will remember they are Prince Charming/Snow White!

ParticipantI don’t get how “rebooting” at the series end would allow Emma to grow up from birth with Snow White and Price Charming as parents in FTL. I doubt breaking the curse would somehow magically restart time and change it. That just doesn’t make any sense.
In all likelihood, I agree with Phee that Regina has suspected ever since episode 2 who Emma really is. She accused Mr. Gold of intentionally bringing Henry to her so that Emma would come to SB. Also, Mr. Gold said that Regina probably knew exactly who Emma really is. I think that Regina has sort of hoped that Emma would continue to disbelieve in the curse. The fact that Regina believes Mr. Gold when he says that killing Emma would break the dark curse is the real reason Emma is still alive. Regina wants to keep her power and curse in tact, which is why she hasn’t killed Emma. Yet, she sees that the curse has been weakening ever since Emma showed up in SB. We saw in episode 21 that Regina when to great lengths to retrieve the magic apple to put Emma into a deep sleep rather than kill her.

ParticipantSeason 2 is supposed to feature a multi-arch story of Cora, the miller's daughter from the original Rumpel story, so I think we'll see that back-story next season and more interaction between those characters.

ParticipantI think we may get the answer to this question very soon. One of the sneak peeks for this week is of Regina trying to convince Jefferson to make one last trip out of SB to retrieve something for her in FTL. I think we'll see how he travels between the two and whether FTL still exists after the curse was enacted.

ParticipantThe reason I think that Henry intentionally will eat something poisoned which is meant for Emma is that he has to do something drastic to get her to believe. In the promo, Henry says, “You may not believe in the curse, but I believe in you.” It sounds like he is about to do something drastic in order for Emma to believe in herself and the curse.

Participantsjm wrote:I went back to watch the second promo. Mr. Gold is talking about magic coming with a price. We don’t see who he is talking with though. I guess I am assuming she comes to the shop to get the hat and he has a talk with her. Maybe he has a small quantity of magic left as well, or maybe he helps her find some; but one thing about Mr. Gold is he realizes that things seldom go as planned. He knows there is a price with all magic. Whether or not he sees what is going to happen I cannot say, but I do believe he wants Emma to believe in the end, and is willing to risk the hat for the possibility of something happening that might make that work.
I agree with this assessment of Mr. Gold’s motivations in possibly giving the hat to Regina when she comes calling. It seems like Mr. Gold, who always can read people and still get what he wants, desires for Emma to believe most of all. If he suspects Regina of trying to use the hat to retrieve a poisoned apple, he possibly could anticipate that Henry would intercept the apple, eat it, and thus cause Emma to use her magic to awaken Henry and believe. If that is so, Mr. Gold would be even more impressive than before!

ParticipantAdded to that list of SW’s grievances is the fact that she had to give up her only child to be sent to an unknown world not knowing who would raise her. She missed the first 28 years of Emma’s life. Also, she lost 28 years with her husband. When MM remembers and realises the full impact of Regina’s selfishness, I think she may have a harder time forgiving and forgetting, so to speak, since she’ll remember everything.
