ParticipantI think Henry might just be brave enough to eat a poisoned apple. He is, after all, SW and PC’s grandson. Henry has enough faith in Emma and belief in fairy-tales to know that she’ll revive him by kissing him. After all, a mother’s love is in a way the truest form of human love (excluding Cora). That would be a great parallel to the story of SW eating the poisoned apple and PC waking her with true love’s kiss. Also, it seems like that scene of Henry and Emma takes place back in SB in MM’s apartment.

ParticipantSince August IS Pinocchio, I think that resolves a lot of lingering questions about his character. He does lie, even though he wishes he could be good. However, he came to our wold as a 7-year-old real boy but without a conscience or a father to raise him correctly to be good. He left baby Emma and followed the crowd, because that is what Pinocchio did in the original fairy-tale. Since he escaped the effects of the curse originally, he has spent the last 28 years as a human seeking pleasure, like the puppet Pinocchio did on Pleasure Island. Also, Jiminy said that when Geppetto chose not to heed the Blue Fairy’s warning and not tell Snow White the truth, he was teaching Pinocchio a bad lesson. In our world, Pinocchio/August has lied a lot.
As a grown man, August has returned since he is in fact turning back into wood. He said it happened at the exact moment Emma decided to stay in SB. That was the trigger that started magic in SB. August is reverting back into a puppet form because that is his true original substance. It is comparable to how Jiminy, who was originally a man before being magically turned into a cricket in FTL, is now a man again in SB. August was simply a puppet before the Blue Fairy’s enchantment made him a real boy after he showed himself to be honest, brave, and true. In our world, however, August/Pinocchio hasn’t had good modeling and has been lazy and lying. He is suffering the consequences now that Emma has brought magic to SB.

ParticipantMaleficent: All power comes with a price. Enacting it will take a terrible toll. It will leave an emptiness inside you — a void you will never be able to fill. (1×02)
Mary Margaret: Even if you can’t admit what you did, I forgive you anyway. Your life must be filled with such incredible loneliness if your only joy comes from destroying from everyone else’s happiness. It’s so sad, Mayor Mills, because despite what you think, it won’t make you happy. It’s only going to leave a giant hole in your heart. (1×20)
Snow White: I know what you think you’re doing is vengeance, but I prefer to think of it as sacrifice, for the good of all. With that in mind, I welcome the end. I want you to take my last message to heart. I’m sorry, and I forgive you. (1×7)

ParticipantI think Geppetto acted out of desperation as well. I can understand that as a parent, he’d want to save his child a horrible fate of turning into wood. Although, I think if he’d thought it through more, he might have realized that sending a baby through and entrusting its care to a 7-year-old might not have been a wise decision. If/When Emma finally believes in FTL, she is going to have a grudge against Geppetto for having a lousy childhood and being raised without a mother or father. I seriously teared up when baby Emma was left alone in her crib with no ally or guardian. She has been alone her entire life and it’s no wonder she has trust issues. Simultaneously, I understand that Pinocchio was just a 7-year-old kid who couldn’t face the responsibility. Heck, there are a lot of 27-year-old “kidults” who won’t face that kind of responsibility. I did like the fact that August now wants to set things to rights.

ParticipantI don’t think August is as much angry as he is desperate. He is desperate for Emma to believe. His life now depends on her belief in fairy-tales. He is turning back into a puppet, which is the mysterious illness he is dying from. I think he did just come clean to Emma, and he can’t very well come clean to people in SB until they’re freed from the curse. No one remembers anything about FTL except for Mr. Gold and Regina, and they’re the ones who implemented it! Perhaps if Jefferson returns, he’ll strike up a friendship with August. I actually like August, because he is trying to make amends by staying in SB to “fix” things. Also, I think as a little boy, Pinocchio was given too much responsibility. Also, Jiminy Cricket warned Geppetto that he was setting a poor example by sending him through the wardrobe when the blue fairy said not to do so.
There have been some reasons for Emma to believe, although none that can’t be rationalized away. Firstly, when Emma decided to stay, the clock started moving again. Secondly, when she put on the sheriff badge, the earth shook from the violence of the mine collapse. Thirdly, she saw how oddly Graham was behaving right before he died. None of those events on its own is enough reason to believe, but when not just one person, but four people tell her about fairy-tales, she must have some reason to question what is going on. We’ve seen Henry, Graham, Jefferson, and now August all telling her what she refuses to believe. After Jefferson disappeared through a hat, she has to be wondering how he survived falling from the second or third story window unscathed. After that event, we saw her request to hold onto Henry’s book for a while when she saw the resemblance between Paige in SB and her pictures as Grace in Henry’s book. I think that Emma will start to put together the pieces after something more personal starts to happen. Perhaps MM and David will remember first and then try and convince her she is their child. Either Emma thinks everyone is crazy from drinking something in the water, or she lets her denial go and starts to accept it.

ParticipantFavorite moment: August and Geppetto have a moment at the end in which August wants to “fix things.” I also liked seeing their background which made for an interesting story.
Least favorite moment: Emma leaves. However, I don’t think she’s going to be able to get very far. Even though she can leave, technically, Henry may plead not to go with her. He has a vested interest in staying and seeing her break the curse. If they were to leave, I wonder what Regina would do. ❓

ParticipantI thought all of the signs pointed to Pinocchio. I liked Pinocchio much more than Geppetto in this episode, even though I understand why Geppetto did what he had to do to save his son. Apparently, if Pinocchio had come to SB with everybody else with the curse, he’d have become a puppet. It seems like the characters revert back to the original substance from which they came. For instance, Jiminy, who was a man before he was turned into a cricket my magic, became a man again. Pinocchio, who was a wooden puppet before a real boy, would have turned back into a puppet. That is exactly what we see is happening now. Ever since Emma decided to stay in SB, August said his leg has been turning into wood. It’s interesting that Emma, who’s in denial, cannot see it.
I think that Emma’s parents, Mary Margaret and David, will have to believe before Emma does. I think they may be the ones to convince her of her true identity. I don’t think Henry has been very successful yet at convincing Emma. Operation Cobra has been going on for months now without much success.

ParticipantI’ve also wondered if Archie will start to believe Henry. Not only is he Henry’s therapist, but he’s also treating David, who is having flash-backs, and Mr. Gold, who needs someone to confide in. I think something big will have to happen for Archie to believe though. Even the mine collapse in episode 5 wasn’t enough to convince him. Nevertheless, Archie is becoming braver and speaking acting according to his conscience more. Perhaps an encounter with August (aka Pinocchio) will help Archie to remember FTL. When Archie said for Mr. Gold to chat with August, I doubt Archie realises who August really is. However, I think he’s just saying something useful to the plot development.
From the official promotional photos from episode 20, we see Emma chatting with Archie. At the very least, she is probably asking him about gaining custody over Henry. Also, here is a link for an interview that the actor who plays Archie gave: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/28/once-upon-a-time-scoop_n_1461535.html

ParticipantYeah, hopefully David will question why Regina, who claims to Kathryn’s friend, would come onto him. Considering how much he loves MM, he wouldn’t want anything to copromise the possibility of them becoming a couple. Hopefully, it’ll be a big wake-up call to be careful how he conducts himself.
