I am starting to wonder if the Blue Fairy intentionally sent Pinocchio to our world for 2 very good reasons: 1) to make sure baby Emma was found by adults who could care for her and 2) to defeat Rumpel once and for all. We already know from ep. 14 that the Blue Fairy and Rumpel have something between them. Also, the promo for episode 19 makes it seem like August knows about the dagger. Mr. Gold also fears for his life. If August is Pinocchio all grown up, perhaps the Blue Fairy told him about how the Dark One (aka Rumpel/Mr. Gold) created the curse and how to defeat him. We saw from the promo that August is in possession of a drawing of Rumpel’s dagger, if not also the actual dagger. It also appears as if August and Mr. Gold get in a fight, perhaps over the dagger.

I think it’s interesting how both Emma and August both have a very similar persona: both wear a lot of leather and jeans, both have moved around a lot, both sort of keep others at arms’ length, and both are able to come to SB from the outside world. I think that both have escaped from FTL and that they share a deep history. From the picture above, I think August is clearly the 7-year-old boy who found Emma by the side of the road.

“Meanwhile, in the fairytale land that was, with the Evil Queen’s curse about to strike, Geppetto agrees to a plan that will save Snow White and Prince Charming’s daughter, but with a proviso that could also save his own son.” Also, I think from the description for this episode, August may be the boy that Geppetto tries to save at the same time he makes a way for baby Emma to escape. This method may be different from the wardrobe, which can only hold one, and so skirt that obstacle entirely.

@ charming: Also, to add to your list of “magical incidents” there was the earthquake that occurred immediately after Emma put on her deputy badge (ep. 5). That caused the ancient mines to open up and Henry to discover part of Snow White’s glass coffin.

The wording “apple red as blood” probably has layered meanings. On the one hand, the obvious meaning is that “apple red” refers to the poisoned apple that Regina gives to Snow White. That could be the same apple that Regina had Hansel and Gretel retrieve from the blind witch. The second meaning is that “red as blood” could refer not only to the color of Snow White’s lips, but also to the blood which could be shed. The promo for the rest of season 1 makes it appear as if Regina threatens to have Prince Charming killed if Snow White doesn't comply and eat the apple. Regina appears to visit Prince Charming in prison, perhaps the same prison where King George is holding the prince captive (after episode 16).

All I can say is that the promo makes the rest of the season look epic! I wouldn’t be too surprised if Regina actually is tied to an apple tree. That scene may be her worst nightmare come true. I think that the writers may be wrapping up the tale of revenge between Regina and Snow White by the season finale. The tale has sort of run its course, and it’s time for a new focus (e.g. how Emma can get them out of FTL). I think Emma, Mary Margaret, and Prince Charming will all realize they’re family. I do think there will be some big twist and/or cliff-hanger at the very end that will set us up for a new plot development in season 2. Some TV shows tend to introduce a new villain each season. If Cora is still alive but imprisoned, that could give us a new villain for a new season.

Enchanted One Wrote:I wonder if it is possible for the book to change as the real life Charectors in StoryBrook change? Is it possible for the book itself to be magic and the keeper of the curse or something?

It’d be a wonderful twist if the book itself is enchanted and able to change course as the characters change in SB. I wonder if Emma being there impacts the characters’ destiny in FTL as well as SB.

Snow White: We have to believe she’ll come back for us. We have to give [Emma] her best chance. (1X01)
Henry [to Emma]: I know why you gave me away. You wanted to give me my best chance. (1X01)
Emma [to Henry]: You were right about one thing, though: I wanted you to have your best chance (1×01)
Emma [to Mary Margaret]: And then when I wanted to leave SB, because I thought it was best for Henry, you told me I needed to stay because that was best for him. (1×17)

Graham: She’s going to keep coming at you. And, I know you. You’re going to keep coming at her. And you will do whatever it takes to get her out of here. And you may succeed. (1×02)
Regina: No, I will succeed! He’s my son. It’s what’s best for him. (1×02)

Regina: People don’t change. They only fool themselves into believing they can. (1×04)
Emma: You want to change things? You’re going to have to go out there and change them yourself, because there are no fairy godmothers in this world. (1×04)

Emma: I have faith in you, and now I need you to have faith in me. Can you do that? (1×16)
    Mary Margaret: Of course. (1×16)

Mary Margaret: Why is it so important to you what happens to me? (1×17)

    Prince Charming: I don’t have a choice, do I? (1×06)
Rumpelstiltskin: Oh, everyone has a choice, deary. Just make sure it’s the right one. (1×06)

Zoso: You need to choose a different path. (1×08)
Rumple: Choose? What choice do I have? (1×08)
    Zoso: Everyone has a choice.(1×08)

Mary Margaret: But, Emma, that wall of yours may keep out pain, but it may also keep out love. (1×07)

Emma: I realized all my life I have been alone. Walls up. No one’s ever been there for me except for you. And I cannot lose that. I cannot lose my family! (1×17)
    _______________________________________________________________________________
Mr. Gold (to Mary Margaret): Let’s just say, I’m invested in your future. (1×16)
Rumpel (to Snow White): Let’s just say, I’m invested in your future. (1×16)

Graham (to Emma): I remember. (1×08)
Jefferson (to Emma): I remember. (1×17)
    _______________________________________________________________________________
Mary Margaret: Guess if true love was easy, we’d all have it. (1×03)

Henry must have realized he was the only one aging until Emma came. In the pilot, Henry said that the people of SB were stuck in a town where time stood sill and no one knows who he or she is. The tower clock was stuck at 8:15 PM until Emma decided to stay and the clock hands started moving again. That is why when he first received the story book form Mary Margaret, he was smart enough to figure out that the people of SB around him were cursed. No one else realized time was standing still. Now that Emma has arrived, things around town are changing.

rumplegoldfan wrote: Depending on when Henry got the book and realized Regina was the EQ, he could have been pulling away from her for years or months. What if they had a normal relationship and then he suddenly changed when he got the book? We don’t know if Henry knew he was adopted until he got the book – that could affect how he interacts with Regina as well.

I think that Henry has always had a strained relationship with Regina. I think he had grounds to be distant from her before he got the storybook from Mary Margaret. In episode 2, Archie tells Emma that although Henry only got the book a month before Emma came to town, Henry has been receiving therapy from Archie for years prior to that point. He said that Regina was a very complicated woman, and that the book was simply Henry’s language for dealing with his problems. Henry clearly has had issues with Regina from the very start. Henry is trying to cope with a very demanding mother. She expects a lot from him, and fairy-tales are Henry’s escape.

If Henry and Regina used to have even a normal relationship (let alone a loving one), Henry wouldn’t have started hating Regina just because of some story book. It had to be that Henry has had unresolved issues with his adoptive mother for years, if not his entire life. I believe the book just helped to enforce Henry’s dislike for his adoptive mother. Henry told Emma in the pilot that Regina doesn’t really love him, but that she only pretends to love him. Although Regina probably does love Henry, she’s never been able to demonstrate that love in a way he understands. She provides him with material comforts, but she’s unable to convey love to him in a way he comprehends.

Perhaps that is in part because she had a terrible shrew of a mother. Perhaps it’s also because of the curse. Regina never heeded Maleficient’s warning that enacting the curse would leave an unquenchable void in her heart. Regina is too consumed by hatred and revenge to be able to move past her own suffering to be able to show love outwardly to someone else. In other words, Regina is too emotionally crippled to demonstrate her love for Henry, even though she does loves him. While I want to see Regina redeemed through her love for Henry, she’s going to have to move mountains and receive forgiveness for all of her monstrous ways.
