ParticipantI just came up with a theory about that in the SwanFire thread. Not quite like you put it but basically favourite characters can affect the audience’s perception of whether or not they like or dislike a certain character based on how that character interacts with the audience member’s favourite character. Does that make sense?
For me I’m always show before ship, I love the show so I’m more pro something than anti anything. I don’t get upset at pro SF stuff I see I get mad when I see Hook being torn down to boost up SF. Some people on the other hand if they have a favorite character or ship then that’s all they hang on to. So if we get a CS heavy arc like 3A which was very nice to us CS fans then fans of characters and ships that get the short end of the stick are gonna have a lot of animosity toward the ship that reaps the benefits at what they perceive is their ship’s expense. After that those fans can’t even hear anything to do with a character or ship without it causing a problem. From that comes digging for reasons to hate characters and ships, then comes rebuttal’s from defenders of that ship and it all just snowballs!

Participantyou know I sometimes wonder if a significant % of SF shippers are really mostly Rumbelle fans that resent Hook for his screen time and that he was once verbally mean to pre-Dark Rumple, so they therefore support Neal to Hook’s detriment. For such SF fans, SF means more Stilkin family time. Hook is a threat to that because Emma is the hero of the series, so her romance would get screen time and Hook is the only one unwilling to turn it blind eye to Rumple’s vileness. I know that there are true Neal and SF fans but it seems that some of the Hook and CS hate is fueled by fans that ship Rumbelle primarily and SF By extension.
Well from the number of Rumbelle fans I’ve talked to there’s a fair number that really can’t move past two things. One when Hook challenged Rumple to a duel to fight for Milah and hitting Belle. To me if it wasn’t for him terrorizing Rumbelle he really wouldn’t have been much of a villain at all. He was a Rumbelle’s villain he wasn’t gonna be great to them until after he was redeemed. Letting go of his vengeance and opening his heart to find love again made it so he’s not really any kind of villain anymore but in the end some fans aren’t gonna be able to let that early part of his character go. From a Rumbelle perspective some of them must be miffed at the fact that their ship is constantly separated, Belle’s screen time is nowhere close to that of the rest of the main cast, and their former villain is getting the lion share of the pub. To me I understand Hook was Rumbelle’s villain, Rumple took away his true love so what was Hook’s play? To take away his true love! It makes sense to me but I hope we get to see Hook doing something nice for Belle or helping her and Bae reunite with Rumple something to show how much he’s changed.

Pro tip, Hook:
If you want people to NOT know you’re head over heels for this girl, stop looking at her once in a while.

ParticipantHook and Robin have a bet on who could get a date from the women they want faster. It isnt an easy task as both Regina and Emma have walls a mile high.
The bet was relatively simple. All one had to do was get the woman he loved to go out with him first. Winner got to live in romantic bliss. lose paid the tab for a month worth of dates.
It should have been easy. They were Killian Jones and Robin hood, after all. Very caring and charming handsome as ll get out.
Too bad each forgot that the women the were dealing with happened to be Emma Swan and Regina Mills. AKA, the most stubborn women in all the realms. Getting them to go out on a date would be up on the Miracle List somewhere between pigs flying and them becoming ugly and haggard.
But if either man was nothing, it was persistent…
