ParticipantI’m just going to de-lurk for a second, too!
The other day I was at a special showing of Labyrinth (in 35mm!!) and the couple next to me were having a pretty loud conversation about a TV show. The husband said “they might as well rename the show, “The Show That Has Jumped All of the Sharks”. I chuckled to myself and thought of OUAT and, of course, this thread. And then the wife said something like, “I mean, they’re bringing Frozen into the mix. I might as well prepare myself to suspend all belief for the whole season right now; who knows how much of it I’ll actually watch”. I started giggling and the movie began before I could tell them that I agreed with what they were saying.
Just thought I’d share that with you guys.
Also, the discussions going on in this thread lately have been so good! I think that the main reason why I continually check this thread is because of the thoughtful and appropriately critical posts about storytelling and TV in general.
I’ll probably pop in more when the season starts because all of my friends (who I got to watch the show) don’t watch it anymore (don’t blame them) and I know that I still will out sheer, morbid curiosity.
Also, nicely written article, RG!

ParticipantHi guys! I saw plenty of bison on my roadtrip from California (home) to Missouri (school) and thought of all of the regulars this thread. 🙂
I’ve continued to lurk about/follow this thread over the summer, but I haven’t had much to say about the show that hasn’t already been posted. But, I have to say, I love how much many of you (you know who you are) like to interact with each other on this thread and your “Ranch” (I don’t really know what that is, lol).
If nothing else, it’s really cool to see how this show, though it has gone downhill quite a bit, has brought about fun friendships. 🙂

ParticipantGoing off that, I’ve made an executive decision about how I’m gonna cope with watching the rest of this stupid show, (because I know I’ll have to watch it right to the end). I’m just gonna watch it all with SF still as endgame in my headcanon. Dunno how, dunno when, don’t care how deluded it may be, that’s just what I have to keep in mind in order to get through the rest of it. And if the show finally ends for good, and there’s no Neal return, it’ll make it easier for me to just put the whole show behind me, but at least my deluded headcanon got me through watching the whole thing, and it will have made it more bearable to watch whatever happened as it was happening because I’ll believe that it’s only temporary and SF finding Tallahasse is still endgame. I think that’s the only way I’ll be able to watch this show without my heart continually breaking and raging over everything. Which is a sad state of affairs when I think back on how much I just genuinely loved the story, but it is what it is now. *sigh*
Thank you, Phee, for helping me figure out how I can cope with continuing to watch the show! 🙂 It’s always been very difficult for me to give up on stories I once loved even when they get really silly; I’m, unfortunately, just in too deep with OUAT lol

ParticipantYou know what would have also made this a more emotional impactful episode. Having Emma time travel to EF with NEAL if he was still alive. Both reconciling their issues with each other. Both seeing what their parent’s life was like back then. Emma finally accepting her EF heritage and Neal witnessing firsthand his father’s dedication to finding him and opening up to being a loving person with Belle. I can imagine their quips about the Disney movies they watched while seeing real life fairy-tales unfold. I can imagine Neal teaching Emma some EF customs since he lived there for 14 years. I can imagine Emma having to flirt with past Hook and Neal getting jealous and sucker punching him as pay back for what he did to him in Neverland. (I’m sorry Hook getting jealous with himself was beyond stupid) Finally both fixing the past and Neal reassuring Rumple that his son still loves him and would forgive him and he’ll find his son again. Then Emma and Neal jumps back through the time portal. Finding their way HOME. They finally realized they found their Tallahassee. It would have been beautiful!!!!
Oh my gosh, I wish this would’ve played on my screen last night!

ParticipantSeriously? I’m pretty sure the whole 87 mins I was groaning or trying not to look at the screen because it was so obvious where the story was going.
It was really nice to see MRJ on the screen again, though. And I’m very happy with the fact that it was Neal who saved Emma (and basically everyone else) and helped her understand what “home” means. I’m just bummed that he will never be a part of that home or even find his own away from Emma.
“You killed a man for your ship?” Thanks, A&E.
Also, I have to say that (IMO, of course) that final scene was extremely cheesy and this is coming from a HUGE fan of Frozen. I was really
hopingfor Jafar. If I’m being honest, I am slightly interested in what they’ll do with Elsa, though.StephaM
ParticipantThanks, RG! I probably will also stick around with the show but only in a “curiosity kills the cat” sort of way.
This is kind of random, but I was just texting my Mom (who is a very casual GA) and I was complaining about how “romance” is being portrayed on this show and her reply was “Oh, is that what they’re trying to do with Hook? Yuck!!” I had a few good giggles from that text 🙂

ParticipantHi guys.
I finally caught up on everything and now I don’t even know where to begin.
Just a couple of pages ago I was actually getting really hopeful and excited to add input and then I read the interviews..
First of all, if any man spoke to me like Hook speaks to Emma my reaction would be this:
and this:
And the fact that A&E (and so many others) think that those words are romantic literally makes my stomach hurt.
Even though I just popped out of lurkville I’m not sure how much longer I can stick around here. But you all are so fantastic that I’ll probably stay, just in this thread, though.
For me, Neal was the main factor that brought realness to a show about fairy tale characters. His action and reactions connected to real-life (before his OOC moments) and his romance with Emma connected to real-life. I would choose space over constant pursuance any day!
Anyway, I’m rambling a bit. Thank so much, guys, for all of your posts throughout this thread; they’ve really made me feel less crazy about connecting to a tv show like I once did with OUAT.

ParticipantHello all!!
I’m jumping out of lurkville to say “HI” and introduce myself!
I’ve been lurking about for a year or so now and I just wanted to thank you all for being hilarious and for making me feel a bit less crazy than I do when it comes to this show!
Oh, and just for the record, I’ve been sitting in the foyer eating cookies and enjoying everything that comes from both tents. You all are so great! 🙂
