ParticipantI definitely agree with those sentiments…I mean, I’ve heard of “hate-watching” and all, but it’s weird seeing so many people rather obsessed with a show but wanting so badly for it to end. And yeah, no one on the show is perfect. And the people who most often go on anti-Hook tirades are, of course, the ones who ship Emma with someone else. For example, I find it hilarious to see people who want to see Emma with Regina talking about how terrible Hook is. I mean, seriously? Let’s think about this for a second. If Regina were a male character, I highly doubt anyone would be defending her. Why are murder, rape, and child abuse totally forgivable crimes if a woman is the one committing them? I also bristle at the implication that Emma is too stupid or naive to “see Hook for what he is”. She is very clearly neither of those things, nor is she afraid to tell a guy to bleep off if she doesn’t want him around–look how she reacted when he kissed her in 311 when she had no idea who he was–like mother, like daughter.

Absolutely! I always think of it the other way as well. If Hook was a woman, would he be garnering as much as hate as he does. Ignore the romantic element (well actually you don’t have to) but if everything Hook did over season 3 in terms of their friendship – encouraging her, standing by her, helping her family, etc – if that was all done by Mulan for example there would not be all the backlash about her being all stalkery or only doing it to get into Emma’s pants. I find that Hook gets a lot of flack just b/c he’s a bloke, which makes absolutely no sense at all.
Good points & sadly very true. I also think some of the reason also comes down to the near total anonymity & feeling they can get away with it, since they are hiding behind their computers & pouring their hate out on others… as honestly who’d want to openly show their face, saying some of the things they say?! My bet is not a single one of them would. Bullying Septic Cowards.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Interesting ….. I wonder if this is what the Hook “blackmailing” Rumple actually is- a deal to keep quiet about the dagger IF Rumple reattaches his hand…. but something goes wrong- be it on purpose or not with Rumple & thats why he gets his Hook back later…. still 3& 1/2 days to go until 403 …… will have to rewatch 401 & 402 + die of emotion over some of the newest fanvids (will post them here once I track some really good ones down, so everyone can watch 😉 )

ParticipantI just wish Charming didn’t stop him from punching out Rumple. What a smug git he was this week (no offence)
And I know why he didn’t help, it was to get Charming to get Elsa to solve the problem herself. But it shows that Rumple’s still self serving and actually hasn’t changed. If Belle was in that cave I’m sure he would have rescued her without destroying the wall with a thought. (small rant over)
Oh, there was a reason other than being, if I may borrow your phrase, a smug git? Ha. Mostly I just got the vibe that he was getting a sadistic thrill out of threatening another woman Killian loves…Sorry, but I may have recently rewatched bits of “The Crocodile” while checking some details for another thing, which always leaves me feeling very anti-Rumple.
Re: that picture…yeah. Ice bath sounds like a good idea.
That was the vibe I got off of Rumple as well- I think when it comes to Hook & Rumple, the uneasy truss is over for the most part- will they kill each other, nope- will they be ‘mates’ anytime soon- NOPE! 😉
*Waves to Bo*
The little things DO mean a LOT.
Amen sister! 😉
This past episode (402) was choc-full of small moments that were gigantic indicators of the growth of Emma’s and Hook’s love affair. They were sneaky about guiding the previews in other directions and frankly I am glad they did! Seeing those small gestures and moments fresh and outside of the (for me anyway) irresistible spoilers plastered all over social media was a gigantic treat, and gift. It was no accident that several close-ups zoomed in on those moments.
We are nowhere near being in safe couple territory yet because, well, safe territory can often lead to boredom in TV drama. Though it usually lasts about two pages of dialogue, we are going to get road blocks of all kinds thrown in their way. With Rumple back in jerk-*ff mode and the introduction of a scrumptiously wicked Snow Queen, plus Will, I am sure there will be some serious threats floating around. We’ve only started to see the wacko adventures just waiting to be played before us with typically fast forward A&E speed (smile) There will be ANGST (grin)
But right now, there is pure bliss!!
Fortunately, in Captain Swan, we have two superb actors who can handle the big moments and tumultuous angst as well as the little, much more personal, intimate and ultimately much more honest things, like wordless, desperate no-walls-visible-dear-goddess-you-are-ok-I-was-desperately-afraid -I-had-lost-you-bone crushing-embraces ~ and entwined fingers clutching for and instantly receiving comfort and security~ and a protective and loving arm draped around a shivering shoulder, his hand rubbing life sustaining warmth back into her body while he caressed her hair with his face. Oh Baby, that director knew the importance of those little things. And they were not lost on the more intuitive and sensitive portion of the audience. They were moments to cherish and relish.
Totally agree & like you I’m a total spoiler addict, but not knowing what we were going to get this ep… well holy flying cow- lets just say I totally get why some people dont do spoilers now 😉 I dont have the self control to be spoiler free, so I’ll hope they dont give away many of the small moments like we got in 402 in later eps… because boy did this episode just kill with the feels. The writer (Jane) & director (?) rocked their little cotton socks right off the planet IMO- happy to have that combo…. for like every episode 😉
(On other couples fronts, and this is complete speculation on my part…it seems that they are setting up a season where Regina might play a less visable roll, so far. Perhaps the lovely Lana with her new marriage might be planning a blessed event of her own?? That would be a totally smile inducing event)
I think we are getting much more Regina shortly & in 4B, from what I’ve heard- I could have misconstrued the information though.
Hook gets a lot of hate from some fans. I saw a review thing that started off reasonably funny but then the person wished Hook would just die which I thought was very extreme considering this episode he didn’t do anything wrong. Also some of the negativity is just depressing and self-centred. I wish people would stop hoping the show would end or is cancelled just because they don’t like it anymore. There is a simple solution to that which wouldn’t ruin it for every other fan that does still enjoy the show- it’s called stop watching!
Totally & utterly agree!
I liked Hook’s frustration and snark over him and Emma not having a proper date. I also thought the CS moments in last episode were very sweet.
Hehe, so did I- wonder what their 3rd date will be 😉

ParticipantNO no No nO DO YOU SEE THE BEAUTY IN THIS?

He is holding her hand softly and she goes in for a grasping palm touching hold. She is clinging to HIM now. She is slowly letting herself get deeper and deeper into her feelings for Killian, that now, after nearly freezing to death, the first and really only person she seemed to want GLUED TO HER is Killian. And because we all know how Emma is, THAT is really saying something and it is so beautiful my heart may just explode.

ParticipantThis meta on Hook vs the modern world and trying to fit in is from http://vickyvicarious.tumblr.com/post/99402383051/modern-man-hook
I’ll have to block some of it out for upcoming spoilers.
<h3>Modern Man Hook</h3>
Hey, let’s talk about this.
It’s no secret that I, and many others, love the man out of time trope; and for OUAT, Killian has been just that. Most of the other characters have been brought over by one iteration of the Dark Curse or another, and as such have had the necessary knowledge of modern technology plopped into their heads. And as Happy in particular showed us last night, some folks have taken to them more than others.
Killian’s always been different. There’s a lot to love in how he managed to evade not just one, but both Dark Curses – there are some great parallels to Emma there, for starters. And of course, the ‘man out of time’ trope – with the exception of the stray moment like Cora destroying the phone tap because she doesn’t like what the “magic box” is saying, we don’t get a lot of fairy tale characters being startled by our world. It’s generally shown the other way around with Emma (which is a pretty strong CS parallel right there).<!– more –>
Killian, on the other hand, has been: run over by a car, led to believe jello is a medicinal substance, confused over perms, ‘force-fed’ bologna, and perplexed by mentions of Photoshop, GPS, Marty McFly, and Netflix, just to name a few. He continues to use turns of phrase that show this distance, while other characters adopt more modern lingo. He keeps wearing his pirate clothes… In so many ways, it’s been driven home to us again and again that he is new to this world, that this doesn’t come naturally to him.
This was no accident.
I saw a meta a long time ago talking about how meaningful it was that Emma met Hook in the Enchanted Forest, the land of true love itself, and I’ve commented before about how Killian is the only one of her romantic interests whose true identity she knew from the beginning (as opposed to some alias). That’s exactly what’s happening here: just like Emma has always been pretty firmly grounded in the attitudes and culture of the LWM, so too has Hook always been a fairytale character. There is no “we are both” for these people – or at least there wasn’t, for a long time.
Their integration is happening at the same time, together. We’ve all seen and talked about how Killian helped Emma accept her magic, and that Storybrooke was her home. In fact, it’s only during everything that’s happened since meeting him that she’s accepted her role as Savior, even if she admits that she’s still not really sure what that means. Still, these are the parts of herself that harken back to her roots in the EF; that’s why showing up in the book was such a big deal for her. She finally feels like she has a place here with all of these fairytale characters – and that is in large part thanks to Killian’s presence and help.
But now we’ve come back to Storybrooke, and suddenly he’s the odd man out. He’s still the guy running around in full pirate regalia while everyone else has jeans. He was sitting outside the diner in the finale until Emma brought him in. The only reason he’s here in this world is Emma; she’s the one bringing him in this time, helping him integrate. But she’s got a lot on her plate, and let’s be honest: there’s a lot more immediate stuff he’s got to learn than she ever did.
In fact, Killian even lampshades the issue himself during his ‘talk’ with Charming about Emma in last night’s episode:
He’s clearly well aware of his own disconnect with the rest of town.
But this is where it gets great: he’s actively trying to fit in and learn more. Killian’s always proven that he can adapt well to strange situations; navigating New York twice was proof enough of that. But just getting by and fitting in are as different and surviving and living – and Killian wants to live here. Storybrooke is Emma’s home, and Emma is his home; he knows he’s here for the long haul so he wants to stop living on the outside.
Even since he brought Emma back from New York, we’ve seen these signs. He was finally invited into the Snowing loft, he was called Killian… for Henry’s sake, sure, but that’s where it really started. The first moment I can remember seeing a clear example of him trying to learn about this world was when Zelena kidnapped him:
He pulled out some hilarious sass about Zelena not keeping up with the times in Storybrooke, but it’s more than just that. Killian has heard of a telephone. He’s seen people using them, no doubt, and he’s taken enough of an interest to learn their purpose and what they’re called. Sure, you could say he just happened to observe this, but the fact that he used the word “telephone” instead of the more common “phone” sounds to me like he actually asked someone and they explained it to him. Either that or he looked it up somehow.
Of course, he’s smart, he picks up on things quickly and intuitively (as we saw last night when he snatched the walkie-talkie from Charming and was able to operate it for the rest of the episode with no problem). You could certainly argue that ‘telephone’ was just something he picked up along the way. Sure.
But what about when he got Emma the radiator?
First of all, that shows a familiarity with the loft that I love: he knew it would be right there. But he also knew what it was, what it did and how to operate it. Sure, that radiator’s nothing like as complicated as what Snow was dealing with, or anything, but it’s small. It was tucked away. But as soon as the power comes on, Killian jumps up to get it, aim it at Emma, and turn it on. That is not something that would occur to him unless he was already familiar with it, and the only way for that to happen would be for him to observe it and decide to figure out what it was/did. Maybe he had one in his room at Granny’s and recognized that this was the same thing, or maybe he spotted it here – it doesn’t really matter, what does matter is that Killian is adapting. He came up with a modern-world solution to warming Emma up, without pause.
If that’s still not enough for you, then how about this entire conversation, but this moment most of all:
Our second date, he says. This guy does not come from a time or a place where romantic outings were referred to as ‘dates’. To him, a date is a fruit. Or at least, it should be. But he’s talking here about going on dates with Emma, with complete ease. Based on this conversation, it’s clear that Emma hasn’t broached the subject with him. Nor would Charming, or pretty much anyone else really – you could speculate that a side character like Ruby or someone mentioned it to him after the finale kiss, perhaps. But just as, or even more, likely to me is that Killian is actively looking for this information. He is trying to learn about this world in order to fit in, because he recognizes that this is his home now, and he can’t afford to stay on the outside.
And this brings me to spoiler territory… please skip the rest if you don’t want to see them.
When asked in a TVLine interview what role Emma played in Hook’s upcoming makeover, Jennifer Morrison said: “Oh, he does that all on his own.”
Killian giving up his pirate clothing is very symbolic, and the fact that he chooses to do so himself, without any apparent prompting, is all the more so. His clothes, particularly his coat, have been consistent ever since he gave up the Navy life and became a pirate – there are hundreds of years’ worth of identity steeped in those clothes. In getting a new outfit and leaving his old coat behind, Killian is essentially choosing life with Emma in Storybrooke over being a pirate all over again (last time being when he traded in the Jolly Roger).
Of course, it can’t be all or nothing. Every other character has had to learn that – for most, all it took was that one speech of Charming’s. Emma’s had a much longer and more difficult struggle to get to a place of acceptance – and here again the CS parallels continue, because Killian’s going to struggle too.
I, and a whole bunch of other meta writers, have been predicting an identity crisis for Hook this season, almost certainly coming to a head during the episode(s?) when he gets his hand back. He’s going to try a little too hard to adopt this world at the cost of his ‘pirate’ self, and he’ll learn that isn’t possible. Especially not in this town. As David says:
And just like Killian helped Emma accept her magic, I think Emma will help Killian accept that he can make this world his home without ever truly losing the pirate part of himself. (She’s already acknowledged that he is both a pirate and a hero; this is just reminding him of that.) She will help him find a true balance and settle in to his home in Storybrooke.

Oh, thank you so much for sharing that, I cant wait to read the whole thing later tonight!
I appreciate how Snow and Charming talked about baby Neal, that maybe they should have gone with Baelfire. So happy that was addressed; maybe Bae can be Neal’s nickname.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo*pauses for breath*oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!! Calling the baby Baelfire would be worse than calling the baby Neal. Imagine poor Rumple having to hear Charming say the words “This is my son Baelfire”. Rumple should be the only one with a son named Baelfire. Snowing can come up with their own name for their child rather than stealing what Rumple called his.
Okay, but that kid definitely needs a nickname of some sort. Just not sure what kind of nickname is appropriate for him.
Nemo- sooner or later Charming is going to end up finding him.
LOL- perfect name for a Snowing son – Nemo it is 😀
The hand holding thing just gets me with every rewatch and gifset! I love how they purposely did a close of up that action – that’s how important it was. You didn’t even need to see Hook’s face to know when Emma first moved her hand that he thought she was going to drop it, pull away – but she didn’t, she grabbed on tighter. The looks of utter adoration he gives her from then on just reinforce how that one little action on Emma’s part means the world to him. Feeeeeels!
I’m totally with you! This ep was AMAZING! No kissing required to see how perfect CS is *passes out of epic CS feels*
(And wow. Not entirely sure what happened to that post. The last bit’s me anyway, not sure why it quoted it… *shrug* :p )
I think there is something wonky going on with the site- for some reason yesterday I couldnt get some of the images to show in my post, I spent almost 3hrs trying to figure out what was going wrong- I’d fix the problem (the site stuffing up part of the image coding upon loading the post, but every time I edited & corrected the code, it’d screw it back up as soon as I posted it… or screw up coding that had been fine before editing, so I went & found different sources for the images I was using- but it didnt work, some gifs started working, but then some of the others that hadnt been affected the 1st time, stopped working, so I gave it up as a bad job).

ParticipantAnyway on the hapier note- when your OTP has the best episode ever without a kiss or tons of dialogue- you just know they ar magic.:)
I’m still not over the hug and hand holding. So sweet and subtle. The “talk about intentions towards my doughter” was great- entirely everything that haters staded can be thrown out the window. And Daddy Charming witnesing just how Killian is devoted to Emma was even better. Totally my head canon( Killian freaking out, being devastaded, charming being the cool, collected one).
*Waves* Thank you for taking the time to come say Hi- it’s hard when life gets busy isnt it 🙂
Hehe, you just set of my CS feels gland… thought it was tapped out- turns out, not so much lol 😉I also just realised that Killian like everything else with Emma, has never actually taken her hand- even when he was trying to get out from under the rocks at Tiny’s, he held out his hand & waited for her to take it & just like then, this time he held Emma’s hand, but let her be the one who made it a very intimate gesture, buy interlacing their fingers together & us getting a nice close up of that moment…. boy after 2whole seasons of the writers, A&E teasing us to kingdom come & back about CS, it feels like CS fans will all be ghosts by 422… we’ll have long died (all-be-it in euphoric bliss) from CS feels overload lolololol 😛 😉
When she reaches up and cradles the back of his head and the camera moves Killian’s face – we can see his total surrender to the fact that he was terrified that he was once again going to lose the person he most loves in the world, and his relief that this time the person he is holding that he loves is alive and not dead – and he is completely overcome with emotion.
Nice catch RGF! I just thought she was mimicking the way Killian always caresses her head when he holds her. I like your idea much better

Participant1st the not so great stuff response (& then the yay/happy response in the next post 🙂 )…
OK, WOW!Hey There does seem to be less here than usual. I stayed away over the summer to give myself a break but started lurking right before the show started.. I have been debating on whether to try to stay away altogether cause of some of the negativity or at least try and limit myself to just this thread..I love this thread but I’m nosey so I always go check out the other threads and then wish I hadn’t. But I loved both episodes and cannot wait to see what is in store for us.
*waves* Thank you for coming out of lurking to post 🙂
That’s really sad. This is not a ‘ships only fansite. It’s meant for everyone to enjoy. Now is really the best time for us. We’re getting so much good stuff
There is so much negativity in others treads. You can hate a character all you want but ignoring stuff that are beautifully written and acted is just all new wrong. Collin was simply brilliant in White out- his facial expresions…just wow…I doubt he’ll get any credit in other threads…It is like this is all about ignoring CS and bashing everithing CS related.
That seems to be becoming a problem, I know for a fact at least 2 lurkers & 1 regular poster has left this site entirely over the last 10days alone due to the levels of negativity across the forums (they’ve linked me to the stuff that broke the camels back for them & I’m shocked at how bad it is tbh), I just amazed in the drop of numbers since S3.
Yes, exactly obisgirl- I literally went back to an old group I used to be in weeks ago, just to talk Once in general without all the negativity, I’d forgotten how fun it is to speculate & discuss the show in general with a bunch of actual fans who have positive attitudes (theres all types there- CS, OQ, SF, Snowing, Rumbelle etc. As well as fans of each individual character, we speculate on who may turn up next or in future seasons, what might happen next & why, we chat about who we love or ship & there is ZERO disrespect shown to anyone, it really is love & let love- no matter what you love there!)
Unfortunately…yes, I think a lot of folks have run for the hills, unfortunately. I have to say, I’m not surprised. I’ve mentioned before I used to go into many of the threads but now stick pretty much to this one or some of the least controversial threads. I actually read and posted in the Most/Least Favorite threads for 4×1 & 4×2…but even there, Hook/CS was the giant elephant in the room. But I think a big part of the problem here and elsewhere isn’t in regard to ships, directly. It’s that some people are loving the season (and we can admit it, are spoiled!) whereas others seem to feel the writing has gone downhill. And that divide is getting bigger and bigger. There are those of us that know there’s plotholes and loopholes galore but enjoy the fun the show offers, while others are getting frustrated with those loopholes and plotholes not being addressed as time goes on. Neither group is right or wrong, but it gets increasingly difficult to debate when the problem comes down to how you’re watching the show.
Very good point & I think you are right for the most part speaking in general terms- however I think what was the problem for those who have left, is the attitude of many doing most of the posting here being of (or at least coming off as) “Neal’s dead = A&E killed the ‘reason’ for the show, which = we want it Once to end entirely- we dont care if others do enjoy it, they’re not welcome.”
I’ve been venturing out occasionally (I also read threads I shouldn’t touch with a barge pole, but I can’t help myself) but mostly I stick to this one. I’ve even wanted to stick up for a few people who have been ‘attacked’ (for want of a better word) but I didn’t want to get into an argument myself. So I stay here. Nice and safe.
Think I know which threads you are talking about (sounds like the ones I got linked to)- I honestly hadnt realised the levels of passive aggressive hate & outright negativity had gotten too …. I thought it had been getting better, but boy was I wrong there!!!
