ParticipantThe JR isnāt just an object. To other people it may be meaningless but to Hook it means so much more. The JR to Hook is the chipped cup to RumBelle, the yellow bug to Emma, the book to Henry. the swan keychain to SwanFire. From an outside perspective, it doesnāt seem important but it is oh so important when you know the meaning behind it.
The JR was Hookās home, not just a roof over his head. Emma knows the importance of home, sheās been looking for it her entire life. So for Hook to give up his home for her is a major thing in Emmaās eyes. In season 2, Emma said to Snow āIām not used to people putting me firstā to which Snow replied āWell get used to itā (before changing that to āEmma, youāre not cute and cuddly anymore so our relationship isnāt what I wanted. Charming, letās make another baby!ā). By giving up the JR, Hook has done the one thing that means so much to Emma, heās PUT HER FIRST.
Trillion percent agree! Obisgirl has already pretty much said it with those 2 gifs š

ParticipantWorse is that nothing the writers say or do is good enough. If they mention Neal, itās wrong because it pours salt in the wound since Neal is no longer on the show and is only paying Neal stans lip service; if they donāt mention Neal, itās wrong because the writers are ignoring the importance of Neal. Itās also wrong to assume that the actors are not friends with MRJ. Everyone in the cast seems to get along and to be friends. Iāve heard JenMo, Colin and RC say nice things about MRJ after he left the show. The actors donāt control the show and didnāt make the decision to have Neal written out of the show. I donāt know what they expect the cast to do. Are they supposed to stage a protest because Neal was written off? I donāt get it. We have no idea what went on behind the scenes and thatās the way it should be as the cast and crew are professionals.
I agree with you @sweetgrass. This is what upsets me most of all, the HATE JMO, Colin A and E etc etc have received because they somehow didnāt make a show of āsupportingā MRJ or by going along with the ācrapā (not my word) that they believe the show has become. I LOVED S3! I LOVED the character development. Admittedly, I was not a big Nealfire fan but he served his purpose on the show and those loose ends have been tied up. The End. Donāt really care if they even bring him up anymore. MRJ as moved on to greener pastures and by his tweets it sounds like heās having a blast, so lets just leave it at that. Do anyone honestly think that MRJ is upset over leaving OUAT? Get real, it was just a job. Calling A and E ātrollsā for killing him off and getting angry with the cast for not publicly tweeting MRJ over his new project is just stupid.
Agree one billion percent!
Thannks for posting that commentary gif set callmeLola!
All those times you see Emma walking away from him, that isnāt Emma saying āI donāt want anything to do with youā. Itās Emma saying in her childish way āIām done with this conversation. I donāt want to discuss this.ā
Agree with pretty much everything in your post, but the way I see her ‘look deeply into his eyes & then run for the hills’ actions & now going off of what JMo has said in interviews since the finale, I’m pretty sure that was Emma going “oh crap, these feelings are getting intense- I could so easily go there with him, but I cant go there…. Walk away NOW before you get hurt again” š
Henry and Neal I can understand bonding but Neal never had this bonding thing with Snow and Charming. Thatās why it so weird for Snow to be so āTeam Nealā when she hardly talked to him at all in season three. What does she know about him other than the fact that heās Rumple son and he had a relationship with Emma? NOTHING!! And now the Snowing baby is named Neal. Itās still my head canon that was something Snow pushed for, not Charming.
Agreed.

ParticipantOh, thanks for the happies Jenna_B š & I totally understand where you are coming from- I cant & will NOT defend Neal for his actions towards Emma especially- the actions are, if not unforgivable in themselves, certainly unforgivable in a romantic partner sense. I do enjoy his time with Henry though š
Joss Whedon likes to kill beloved characters. I think it happens in most shows heās done. Buffy, Angel, Firefly.
Holy Crow batman! Did he write Buffy & Angel?! ….. I Loved, loved, LOVED Firefly, maybe I should give Buffy & Angel a go – well at least Angel (I dont mind saying I find David Boreanaz all sorts of good looking, so quality eye candy is probably a given, even if I dont get into it lol) š
Emma could end up the same way but I hope she doesnāt. I want her toĀ have it all.Ā Romantic love, familial love; friendship loveāthe whole package.
Sheās been through crap in her life I want her to be happy.
Thatās why āshippers need to put character first before āship. I feel like our āship does that more with Emma, where we understand where sheās coming from and justify why we feel sheās a better fit with Hook as a true love.
I had to quote this as I think you hit the nail on the head + we already have JMo & A&E saying she is the product of TL & therefore wants to seek it out herself.
The one he never admitted was that sending Emma to jail was wrong. He traumatized her and never really, truly apologized for it. His apology in 2Ć21 was really about him, how leaving her made him feel than about Emmaās feelings. Especially when she tried to tell him and he laughed at her.
Thats actually one of the reasons I just couldnt really “Like” Neal/SF- he never did actually just say “sorry for doing that to you”, he said “I’m sorry, I..” which may as well read “sorry, but”.
But before I do, Iād like to make a suggestion. I think we should put a moratorium on discussing Neal in this thread. I know it might be hard too but if we donāt see Neal at all next season it shouldnāt be difficult.
Not a bad idea- It’s just had to say “Hey guys- this is totally getting creepy- maybe chill out on randomly dropping all the ‘why Neal/Poor Neal/ it’s all about Neal, Neal Neal’ comments in on conversations” (I’m still VERY cautious of mentioning CS out in the main forums or Neal & SF for that matter) & not get told I am hating on him or SF fans & get bashed for it… I’m starting to wonder if I need to take a break from this forum again all together- I dont want to get started in a new forum as if I do, I highly doubt I’d come back here & I enjoy chatting to you guys too much to willingly do that š
Maybe we just need find more CS/Emma/Killian related topics to talk about- how would everyone feel if we did something like recaps & analysis of 1 or 2 eps of the show a week or something to help keep conversation moving forward- or maybe looking for the hints & clues A&E laid down for CS happening? Does anyone have any ideas of what we could do while it’s slow going, that they want to share?

ParticipantHmmm, I tried editing the above post to include the quoted material in the actual quote box- but it wont work, so hmmmm o.O
I know this is slightly off topic but is anyone else getting just a little bit sick of the āNeal is gone & bringing him up makes it harder to bareā or āthey are rubbing our faces in Nealās deathā stuff I see flying around these threads still⦠hes a friggn fictional character after all, itās almost creepy tbh & the friggn show isnt the Once upon a Neal ā¦. maybe its because Iām sick so stuck in bed still & cranky, but good gods some people need to get over it, they are taking a fictional TV show WAAAAAAAAAY too seriously- Let it friggn GO! (Pun intended! :P)
I will be honest, my like for Neal is better than it was now (I dont like what he did to Emma, Roland, Leggy or Rumple, nor his S3 decisions/actions at all, but thank the re watches for the improved tolerance)- maybe its absence that makes the heart grow fonder
But if they killed off Killy, I wouldnt be moping around the forums pointing out how such & such should be honoring him or how this & that chaffs now heās dead- I loved Graham & aside from āRIP Grahamā & *sniffles* I didnt see anyone going on & on & on & on & on & on & on about how much they miss him & the show isnt the same etc. Talk seemed to be on how his death affected the others/Emma & itād be nice to see discussions like that re Nealās death (if there needs to be any), rather than āWhy! How could they! They ruined the Show!ā BS that is still going on *sigh*
ok, Rant over- just needed to get that out.
Anybody seen/found a nice CS vid they wanna share?Iām totally with you. Itās getting old and as you said heās a fictional character. I canāt count the amount of times a favourite character I have adored has been killed off on a TV show. I still remember the worse one when I was a young teenager, wasnāt actually my favourite character being killed off, but he ended up being the villian of the piece. He was so nice and lovely all the way through and then bam, bad guy. I was very upset, but then I built a bridge and got over it. Ohh and then another one where my fav character committed suicide. Oh wow that was tough to handle. But I still loved the show. Iām still upset that JK Rowling killed off Sirius, (POA is still my favourite book) but I didnāt go on a rampage declaring the whole series was ruined b/c of one characterās death.
Actually just one thing that really bugged me about the death, and this is quite a personal note, were the Neal fans saying āoh theyāre not mentioning him. Just say his nameā etc⦠I lost my step father (the only father Iāve known) a couple years back and still find it difficult to say his name out loud and talk about him easily, whether itās b/c Iām worried it will bring up sad thoughts for me or others I donāt know. So all that āsay his nameā rubbish really hit me hard as being quite insensitive. And if they are acting like Neal was a real person with their mourning and grieving, then perhaps they should actually think about what theyāre saying. Two cents done with.I’m glad it’s not just me then.
You bring up a very good point about other shows- I hadn’t even thought of that!
My all time fav show as a teen & adult (show ran for 10years & had 2 spin offs), had my all time fav main character (ever), killed off after 5 seasons of being front & center in almost every episode (Daniel Jackson from SG1) as a lead! (Daniel was also the 1st ever character I actually “shipped” with anyone as well…. after 9yrs of watching the show lol). I was so shocked & upset when they killed him off, but I got over it quickly & certainly while he left a whooping great hole in his place show wise, I never once said or felt the show was ruined! Nor did I hate or bash the writers/cast for it either. I in fact grew to enjoy & love the character that was brought in to ‘replace’ the role that Daniel had left in the ‘team’… Of course I was beyond delighted when Daniel was brought back in S7 as well š The same was true of Star Gate Atlantis with ‘Carson Beckett’- was so sad to see him die, but he came back for cameos which was cool…. I now have a hankering to watch Stargate SG1 again LOL.
On the other hand, I really do get those that feel the ‘magic’ has gone from the show with Neal’s death- I dont enjoy NCIS as much as I did now Ziva is gone- there is a spark that is missing for me now (& it has nothing to do with the new character that has been brought in to replace Ziva’s role in the show), but it is my choice to watch the show or not & feel as I do 1) Hasnt stopped me from enjoying it enough that I’ve stop watching. So 2) I dont go around whining about how Ziva leaving is OOC, ruined the show, goes against cannon, breaks the otp of another character blah, blah, blah- it’s fiction for crying out loud.I totally get you with Harry Potter- Poor Sirius, I personally was more saddened when Lupin (my fav HP character) was killed, as well as Tonks my 2nd fav- Deathly Hallows was a tear jerker for me- Dumbledore I saw coming from a mile away & called him kicking the bucket after Bk2 or 3 (I read 1,2 & 3 back to back lol), but still shed a tear or 10 for him- OotP is my Fav book with PoA a very very close 2nd š
I guess it comes down to whether or not people feel “entitled” over the story lines of the shows or not? – those that feel entitled over the story, will invariably get their knickers in a giant knot, throwing tantrums & whining over how they’ve been ‘wronged’ by the writers/show/world, those that are there for the story being told will simply enjoy the ride of whats being presented- whether it be laughing, crying or aww-ing as they follow the story to its eventual conclusion.
They dont have to like or even love all of the story, but enough with the whining- It’s gone past ‘grieving’ & is well into creepy now IMO.On a happier note Thanks so much for the video- I hadnt seen that one before & it cheered me up š

ParticipantI agree with Slurpeez as well.
I will wade in with what I posted in another thread about the subject:I tend to agree A&E tried to define TL & SM to keep everyone happy/ prevent another Poop storm- although they could have done that by simply stating āthey are one in the same in terms of end resultā …. or better yet, simply given us the dictionary definitions š
The way Iām going to choose to look at it from here on out is this:
Love- You meet & may or may not be attracted to the other, but over time develop understanding, trust, feelings, then love for the other & it eventually turns into TL- ie. RumBelle.
True Love- You meet & there is a spark of ‘love’ there almost right way, which develops/gets stronger as time goes on & turns into TL- ie. Snowing (although they fought their feelings at 1st).
Soul Mates- You meet & there is a spark of ‘total understanding’ (not sure how else to word it) right away, which develops/gets stronger as time goes on, turns into love &/or romantic feelings, then TL- ie. OutlawQueen.
So for my interpretation of the 3 concepts, is not so much the end product that differs- not one of the 3 concepts results in a less powerful love, than any of the others, itās simply the starting point that differs between the 3 & I think this what A&E could have been meaning, but didnt get across.
I also have to note & point out (as I’m not sure it has been yet), that they said SM = when “someone thinks there is only one person for them”. Not that “There is actually only one person for someone”.
So I guess in that respect, what they are saying is TLs & SMs aren’t really “different” as such, it’s that people view them differently? …. Ok I think I’m going to confuse myself if I continue on from here… this isnt something I should be writing at 2:50am while sick lol, so hopefully it makes sense if I leave it here š -
