I know many actors do a lot of researching while creating characters, and with such well-loved characters one has to be respectful as well as personally creative. The man he has created on the small screen is filled with complexity and emotions, some he wears very well and others torment him even as he gives in to them, temporarily.

    Agree 100%

His self-serving nature boils up from a very self-defensive trait. I think he shows himself as always being a man of certain honor and good form~ except when the anger gets a grip. Then he can trip, bigtime. The anger rationalizes the momentary slip from good form. He hasn’t been as angry lately, but if you aggressively challenge him or threaten someone he loves, methinks the fierce passion would give him no pause in doing what is necessary to vigorously respond.

Good Form doesn’t negate fierce passion, it tries very hard to live hand in (hook?) hand with it. I hope he never loses the soul of Hook. It made him the man he is now.

    Again agreed.

give him a commanding position attached to the sea. It IS a harbor in Maine (grin).

It’s exactly this reason that I doubt he’ll get JR back (at least not anytime soon), unless they want to cut his role on show down dramatically- if he’s always out working on ship in the ocean, then he isnt available to run around SB with Emma & Co. Nor to be sent to whatever world that running around ends up sending them too 😉
Ie. There’s another show I watch where one of main characters lived & worked on a boat. It quickly became apparent he was spending way to much time on land in order to interact with the other main characters, to also be doing ‘boat stuff’, so he was given a bar to run instead (which has become the “Granny’s of that show), as he now has staff he can leave in charge of the place, he now has a plausible reason for being on screen interacting with the others all the time 😉

Hallelujah!  I think this is my favorite quote from the OZ CC yet.  Well, either that or the playground one…how totally true!  haha.  But seriously, I don’t understand how people didn’t see this.  Have they never been in a relationship where they were scared out of their minds and pushed the other person away?  Have they never felt terrified of something and so they said something that may even be borderline cruel, and then mentally asked yourself what you’re doing but are still unable to apologize?  This is human nature.  And as hurtful as it was to see Emma lash out and push away like she’s done, it’s refreshing because it’s so relatable.  Emma has gone from being so jaded and having such high walls, and not easy to understand, to someone you can actually see some of yourself in.  Which I love, and I feel like I can finally understand.

    Agreed 🙂

Being exactly that kind of head case when it comes to the relationships that threaten my control freak, vulnerability tendencies of the heart, I TOTALLY empathize with our stoic Emma-gal. It was perfectly clear (grin). I guess there has to be a portion of the human race who are blind to that way of love…yin yang, balance, peace, love, dopey hope, eternal cosmic wisdom and all that lovely karmic stuff, yeah yeah yeah…but they DO seem to miss the obvious point, don’t they (wink)?

Letting someone in is much riskier/harder than holding them out. That kind of potential soul power is very frightening.

It was also why I got so frustrated and wanted someone to kick Emma’s wall clinging butt to the EF and back ! I also know that when you finally accept and willingly embrace that power, the rewards are …oh…so…grand !!

Again, Agreed- I too understand all to well where Emma was coming from, but at the very end did also get a little frustrated with her wall clinging- both with Killian & leaving SB, as well 😉

Is it weird that I kind of hope our ship is the comedic relief in S4?  Haha, like, I just really want to see Hook as he eases further into SB society and the two of them trying to navigate their relationship – so much potential for them to be the fun story that lightens the show when it gets too dark.  If you’ve seen Sleepy Hollow, that’s exactly what I’d love with CS – although a comparison to Sleep Hollow and Ichabod’s fight with the 21st century is a pretty tough request (it’s perfection)

Haha, nope not weird (although Sleepy Hollow would be very hard to live up to in that respect), but I’m kind of hoping for a Henry trying to teach Killian how to play some fantasy RPG on Xbox or something lol 😛 I’d also like to see Killian’s reaction to coffee makers & PC’s etc. 😉

Colin would certainly be one sex-y Han Solo if they ever decided to remake the Star Wars movies.

I can see why the poster put a warning on the “pro-CS” stuff because, especially after Monte Carlo when JMo got those hateful comments from certain fans, you don’t want positive stuff brought down by hateful comments from haters. If you don’t like CS and you know it’s going to be pro CS, don’t read, simple as, then the haters can’t say they weren’t warned.

But I do agree that you shouldn’t have to put warnings on positive stuff, however I think anything relating to the CSF triangle is a special case because fans got extremely passionate for the guy they wanted Emma to end up with to the point that no matter what the other guy does, he’d always be public enemy number one.

& that would be fine if “warning” labels also got slapped on pro SF links, but they dont seem to be, which IMO just increases hostility between the ships rather than helping to improve them- IMO a simple statement of “here’s a pro CS ship link” would have been fine (if you are anti CS, then you cant say you didnt know it was “pro CS” since it is labeled as such)- but saying “Warning, this is a Pro CS link” fosters the message that CS is “bad” & just drags out the animosity between ships IMO.

WarriorFire- Mulan & Neal, I loved their interaction (admittedly, Neal could have been more direct due to wanting to get back to Henry & Emma & that’s why I enjoyed their limited scenes together so much)

My biggest crack ship was RegalFire, but glad it sunk in the end, as I love OQ 😉

The crack ship I didnt know I had, was August & Red, but that would frankly be uber creepy now, so that sunk before it started as well lol 😛

I did think TinkerFire had potential (for pretty much the same reasons as Jenna), but I didnt really ‘ship’ them, it was more ‘that could work’.

This will sound weird, but I’ve wanted to crack ship Blue with someone since early S2 lol (dont ask why- I have no idea lol). I’ve seen her shipped with Archie, but I just cant get on board with that, so if anyone knows of any Blue crackships- fire away 😉

I’ve only really been in character threads, so not much hook hate in those, if any. :-)

I’ve been in most of the active threads and agree, there really hasn’t been much hate at all.  People are understanding the point of the conversations in the character threads is to present opinions but respectfully….almost, I think to the point of holding back.  The Neal & Regina threads did eventually include some “controversial” (for lack of a better word) thoughts (which I loved, let’s discuss folks!!) but I think posters did a good job of keeping it civil.

Ok, awesome- that was what I was going to ask next- have already peeked into the “Hook” thread, but someone slapped a “warning for Pro CS” on a link, so was wondering if it was still a war zone out in the threads is all.
Kind of wish people wouldnt promote (even if it is unintentional) negativity with-in the fandom, by labeling positive things with negative connotations, it just fosters the general negativity within the fandom of late IME (as far as I’m concerned if something is positive & ship related, simply say it’s a positive or pro whatever ship/character link, there is no need to “warn” people of positivity IMO)- seems we are just getting over the CS & Hook backlash of Neal being killed off, then the backlash of Emma ‘saving’ Robins Ex from a horrendous death at Regina’s hands by bringing her to the present, where said Ex seemingly promptly gets in the way of the OQ easy, automatic HEA & now there is a bunch of Elsa actoress hate- seems people decided their head cannons would be far better for the role, than who A&E have decided will best portray their version of the character- much of the opinions I have read have been “she isnt pretty enough” or “she doesnt look anything like Elsa”….. Cant tell you guy’s how many times I’ve had to point out that Once doesnt exactly hire actors based on them looking like the character they are portraying- Hook, Rumple, Aurora, Lancelot, Cinder’s Fairy God Mother, Belle, Red, Maleficent are all examples of the actors not looking exactly like their fairy tale characters :/

I want Killian and Emma to be two completely separate individuals.  The thing that I hate about Snowing is their co-dependency.  So while Emma’s working on really breaking those walls down with everyone, I want to see Killian on his own path to become the person he feels has “good form” or get to a point where he actually feels he can be a “man of honor.”  While, of course, kicking hiney with the others!  I love their little group and they each bring their own strengths to it; so I hope that doesn’t fade in S4.

This, although I dont hate it in Snowing, because well, they are Snowing lol- If Emma & Killian are going to be a long term thing, then I really would rather not see them become Snowing 2.0

Here’s my question of contribution: What do you guys think will be in store for Hook (besides his relationship with Emma) in the coming season?

Figuring out ‘who’ exactly Killian is now- is he Hook, is he a pirate, s he a Navy man, is he a hero, a villian or is he a mixture of some or all of those things now etc.
What does he want to do with himself if he doesnt have his ship- I cant see him liking the idea of being a ‘kept man’, but I guess he’ll simply fall into a ‘police officer’ roll maybe. I’d also like to see the comedy of him coming to terms with living in a modern house, with all the gadgets & gizmos we use nowadays, which we often take for granted as ‘normal’, esp with a teenager- I’d love a Henry teaching Killy how to play Xbox scene lol 😉
I REALLY want to see more of CaptainCobra (Killian & Henry) & the CaptainCharming bromance, I’d also like for Killian & Robin to bond- esp over going from a world where their skills are useful & allow them to ‘provide’ for their families, to now being in a world where in essence, their skills are pretty much useless- I mean Robin is good with a bow & knows how to fight- Killy is good with boats/ships & good with a sword & pistol, both are good at thieving & are obviously good leaders, since both have loyal follower’s/ crew’s. So where does that leave them in SB, what are their roles now.
IMO, FTL skills dont really translate into ‘real world’ skills very well if you dont have the benefit of 28yrs worth of false memories to rely on- ie. Drop a FTL healer, mason, carpenter or even ‘peasant/farmer’ into the real world & they will struggle to cope & survive, esp at 1st, with such a fast pace, specialist & tech heavy world, but drop a ‘real world’ doctor/surgeon, builder, carpenter or average joe-blog or lifestyle farmer into ‘typical-not post apocalyptic’ FTL & while it maybe a culture shock (mostly due to lack of indoor pluming lol) at 1st, they at the very least have if not useful advanced skills to rely on, then at the very least ‘revolutionary’ ideas (in door pluming for instance 😉 ), which they could rely on to more easily adjust to a slower paced, low tech life.

Heck, maybe he decided it was “good form” to avenge a loved one’s murder, thereby justifying all of the questionable and/or awful things he did in an effort to kill Rumple. So I feel like when we first see Hook, he kind of twisted his definition of good form to suit his needs. But then I’d say that for most of season three he’s been trying to turn back around to maybe embracing a wider definition of good form since he wants to actually be a good person for Emma. Of course there was certainly some backsliding during the missing year, when he thought he’d never see her again, but in that episode we also see that he regrets those instances of “bad form”.

    Agreed.

As I see it, Hook was/is not evil, he was deeply wounded and profoundly angry. Because he acted out defensively and violently against the personally tragic and hurtful happenings of his life does not make him evil, but it did make him somewhat dangerous, passionately tortured and constantly struggling to overcome his seething anger ( which he often drowned with numbing alcohol or barricaded behind cocky attitude)

His destructive anger I.E. selfish quest for revenge was a flaw, but not fatal because it did not ultimately destroy him. He was able to conquer that toxic, internal driving force.

His loyalty, rapscallion aura, witty snark, natural charm and indomitable Good-Form spirit is deeply imbedded in his essential character and when not plagued/diseased by anger and hurt, will always be “who” he is.

Hands Bo a *Hookie cookie for a great post*
