I think it has to do with “broken” promises. Arthur was told that he’d be king of a new, great kingdom. But it hasn’t happened, largely through Arthur’s own obsession with wanting to fix Excalibur, which in his mind must be mended before he can be king. In reality, Arthur should have been putting in the work of fixing the Kingdom, whole Excalibur or no. Humans, by nature, like to blame other people for their problems. Arthur blames Merlin for having lied to him, when really Arthur is to blame for becoming to myopically focused. It’s nothing to do with magic; it’s simple human nature.
+1 to all of this.
Arthur has become obsessed with fixing Excalibur, and because he hasn’t been able to do so, he’s blaming Merlin for setting him on an impossible path.
[adrotate group="5"]swanning-offParticipantAs a storyline, I liked that nothing happened between G + L, but A assumed the worst.
The Sands of Avalon Roofy Dust make G’s current devotion to A make sense, but are also creepy. But think about this: I think we were SUPPOSED to find it epicly creepy. We’re supposed to see the rape/lack of consent/abusive overtones. It reinforces that Arthur cannot be trusted.
swanning-offParticipantYeah, that sound about right. I won’t question how Emma knows how to make dreamcatchers but whatever
Making dreamcatchers isn’t particularly challenging. Wrap string around a circle. Easy enough. Especially if you need something repetitive to focus on to keep the madness at bay.
Emma, word of advice: KNIT. It’s more practical and just as good at keeping the madness at bay. 🙂
As for my thoughts on the sneak peeks:
#1: aww. Poor Emma. Go hug her Killian.
#2: Snow is making more logical sense than Charming, even acknowledging that she doesn’t have all the answers. Given their history with Lancelot, it makes more sense to first go and talk with him than it does to march up to Arthur with the dagger and say “here you go – oh, our daughter is the Dark One so be nice…” But they are both being stubborn. That’s what Snowing does!
swanning-offParticipantAdam and Eddy have lost it….how can you tell the Merlin & Camelot Mythology without showing Morgana…..that’s like having green eggs without the ham!
Not if Morgana is merged with Guinevere as a OUAT character…. #shadycamelotisshady
swanning-offParticipantTo no one’s surprise…
You got that right. Hell, even Snow hardly seemed surprised. She didn’t even question how he was alive. She just seemed happy to see him.
I don’t think that Snow is particularly surprised that Cora lied, given what they went through with Cora subsequent to that episode!
“We were told you were dead”
“LOL no”
“Yeah, to be fair the person who told us lied constantly so no surprises there…. how are you?”
swanning-offParticipantThat and Killian’s reaction to a sonogram were two of my favorite bits of the ep
to be fair, for someone who isn’t aware that the Land Without Magic offers “pictures” of your insides, “a picture from up inside Zelena” does sound like an offer to look at…. something else!
OMG. OMG! I DIDNT EVEN NOTICE THAT!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just watched it on youtube!!! How did I miss that!!! xD that’s hilarious!!!
I think I’ve spent too much time on http://www.reddit.com/r/wtf but yeah… that’s precisely where my mind first went to with Hook’s reaction. Not the “do not want to see inside someone” but not being aware that seeing pictures of someone’s insides was an option and expecting something else entirely!

The outraged Dwarves had me laughing so hard. YOU BETTER DO SOMETHING OR ELSE…. we’ll become an anarcho-syndaclist commune (http://www.intriguing.com/mp/_scripts/peasant.php)
I liked Regina’s red dress but what is up with Snow’s/Mary Margaret’s outfit!
each to their own… but I really liked what Snow was wearing. Looks appropriate for royalty visiting another realm. Evidently somewhere between the Diner landing and the first ball, Arthur et al have been brought up to speed on the fact that David & Snow are actually Queen Snow and her Prince David. I take it also that from the whole Percival incident they’ve worked out that Regina is the deposed Evil Queen.
Once again some terrible morals, or at least twisted ones. Guinevere and Lancelot chose to have an affair. Arthur did not force them to have sex. OUAT has a weird habit of taking away people’s ability to chose and making it someone else’s problem.
I know it’s Disney and it’s a PG show but… come on. We had Henry and Emma walk in on David and Snow “making tacos” in season 2. Surely we can have Arthur and David discussing that Guinevere and Lancelot chose to “make tacos” in Camelot?
Favourites for me:
* Doctoberfest 🙂
* Hook’s “whoa mate!” to Robin’s offer to look at a picture “up inside Zelena”
* InnerDarkRumple’s snarky comments about impractical boots and a creative route to failure
* “Feet are speed. Hand is steering” – as someone on http://www.reddit.com/r/onceuponatime pointed out, given the singular “hand” comment my headcanon is now that this was the same advice David gave to Hook in an attempt to teach him how to drive! #captaincharming #brotp

swanning-offParticipantI suspect that they’ll find out about Arthur’s shadiness, when they discover Arthur’s “thief” to be missing. They’ll use the video surveillance footage and find out what Arthur did, which Arthur doesn’t know about. So Arthur could be found out not by magic, but by science!
Yes. I was laughing at that whole exchange in the Sheriff cells because Arthur clearly has no idea that his entire episode has been caught on camera. Or, if he leaves the poison bottle in situ, that his fingerprints will reveal him as the killer.
TAKE THAT HIT FROM MODERN INVENTIONS YOU OUTDATED KNIGHT!
As for Arthur’s overall dodginess and other things….
<ol>
<li>we don’t actually know that they came back to Storybrooke with a 6 week memory gap because of a Dark Curse. We’ve seen other methods of realm transport, including a twister induced by the wand of whatever fairy that was, and a memory spell can explain the other</li>
<li>I like the idea of merging Arthur/Mordred or Guinevere/Morgana in OUAT’s take on Arthurian legend</li>
<li>I’m pretty sure I read somewhere the A&E have confirmed Mordred will not be making an appearance on OUAT, they’re only going to deal with the Arthur legend in broad terms – which makes sense, because frankly unless you’ve really got into the Arthurian legend, Mordred is a confusing character. For many people, the only well known characters or concepts from Arthur’s legend are Arthur himself, Merlin, Morgan or Morgana la Fay, Guinevere, Lancelot, the Knights of the Round Table as a concept, Camelot as an idealised kingdom, and the Holy Grail as a quest. Everything else is kind of background stuff.</li>
<li>Lancelot isn’t dead – no kidding. Cora spoke = Cora lied.</li>
<li>But seems Lancelot went to EF after he was kicked out of Camelot? We know that we are dealing with Camelot well after Lancelot/Guinevere’s tryst, and we met Lancelot in the EF the first time without any discussion of Camelot etc.</li>
<li>Arthur admits he is proud to a fault and has made mistakes for the glory of Camelot</li>
<li>Guinevere and Arthur are clearly in on “it” together, whatever it is</li>
<li>Storybrooke Arthur is aware that Emma is the Dark One, Camelot Arthur doesn’t seem to be…. yet.</li>
<li>Arthur is willing to kill his subjects to get what he wants</li>
</ol>
So what does Arthur want?Excalibur to be put back together.
Why is this important?
Dunno? Has something to do with Camelot or its future. Does Arthur want to be the Once & Future King of all the lands? Does he need Excalibur to do that?
Who put Merlin in that tree?
We know that Merlin continued to talk to/instruct the Sorcerer’s Apprentice through the cauldron, as we saw that last season. That “Sorcerer” seemed to be a disembodied spirit. Consistent with a wizard who is currently trapped in a tree? Maybe.
<ul>
<li>I think the options for who put Merlin in a tree are:
Merlin himself, for Plot Reasons</li>
<li>Arthur</li>
<li>Morgana (even if OUAT’s Morgana = Guinevere)</li>
<li>another magic user we have or have not met yet</li>
<li>the Dark One at some point in time</li>
</ul>
Presumably if it’s the Dark One, then it was Rumple, who has been the Dark One for hundreds of years. Emma’s only just become the Dark One.We assume that Merlin and Arthur have met and spoke in OUAT’s version of the story because of our history of Merlin as Arthur’s advisor – what if they haven’t? What if OUAT’s version has Merlin living years/decades/centuries before Arthur and writing down a series of prophecies about him?
When Arthur et al rode up to Granny’s diner when it slammed into Camelot, they said that Merlin had prophesied that they would come to free him. That doesn’t mean that Merlin *directly told Arthur while speaking to him* that this would happen – it could mean Merlin at some stage in the past wrote down a heap of stuff that would occur.
EDIT: WHY ARE BULLET POINTS OFFERED AS A FORMATTING OPTION IF IT DOES NOT WORK?????
I’ve tried to fix this up 3 times. It looks fine in the editing window, but goes when I hit submit. What gives? It’s stuff like this that makes me hate using these boards!
swanning-offParticipantThe bond was neat and you can tell it was authentic despite Arthur’s shadiness….however, why would you make David a Knight of the Round Table when you know he has to leave?
Arthur did say that many of the Knights of the Round Table were princes or kings in their own realms – suggesting that KOTRT isn’t a standing order, but something that only meets at moments of greatest need. So in that context it seems totally legit to make Prince Charming, who is King or Prince Consort of whatever Snow’s kingdom is in the EF, a member of their Order. Think of it as being a Knight Templar or something – doesn’t require you to up and move to Camelot, just to be acknowledged as a KOTRT.
As an aside, every time they show the Round Table or talk about the Knights, I can’t stop singing Monty Python songs in my head.
On second thought, let’s not go to Camelot. It’s a rather silly place.
