swanning-offParticipant
Regina’s snarky observations about preteen Bae’s cooking prowess was probably my favourite line, followed by “Am I supposed to be impressed that he made a nightlight?!”
Loved Neal’s chat with Felix at the start too. “I dunno if I grew up stupid… but at least I know how to untie an overhand knot!”
“I’m not a boy…. and I’m not lost” was great too – Neal is on a mission.
[adrotate group="5"]swanning-offParticipantyes it makes the family tree even weirder. But it explains a lot – and nice catch on the guessing game thing. I pricked up my ears at that one while watching but forgot about it when I was on the forums earlier.
swanning-offParticipantDunno. It seems the only logical deal: I let you off my island if you bring me the Boy.
But would Hook agree? Beneath the pirate, he’s shown repeatedly that he does place a premium on “good form” (which is Barrie canon)
swanning-offParticipantOK, so based on the Piper Pan/Rumple interaction in “Nasty Habits” I think we can kibosh the idea that Rumple was a Lost Boy. Pan was looking for friends to take to Neverland because he was bored, and Rumple inadvertently gave him the idea to call the gang Lost Boys.
But introducing Rumple Snr in an episode titled with such an obvious nod to Pan…. hello brothers!
It would explain the obvious contentious history between Pan and Rumple. When Rumple came to rescue Bae, Pan not only knew him, but knew him from childhood – he said something like ‘look at you, all grown up and the Dark One too!’ That sounded like a such a snarky big brother comment to me, especially if big brother Pan ran off because Rumple came along (which is the origin of Pan in Barrie’s story – ran off to play with the fairies when his parents didn’t play with him, came home one night to find he’d been “replaced” by a new baby)
swanning-offParticipantLook, I really could not care less about which ship is OTP, but I must admit I want to see some CaptainSwannage. And the promo did have this reaction with me:
swanning-offParticipantCan we please talk about Hook in that uniform? Cause oooooooh buddy. Mmmhm.
Also…FLYING SHIP! This is excellent news! I like ships that fly.
Yes to Captain Killian Jones in uniform (also a nice nod to a lot of pirate stories that have good navy officers go rogue – a la whatshisface in Pirates of the Carribean)
FLYING SHIPS INDEED!!!! What land possibly has a Navy that FLIES? And why?
Also: Pan and Killian Jones pre-pirate times. Hmm. Did Pan have something to do with Captain Jones’ “descent” to pirate life?
swanning-offParticipantTink called her out on her not being very Fairy-like and I think that is a hint. I think Blue has plans. Evil plans, maybe but probably good intentioned bad plans. I don’t trust those little sparkly wings v.v
Yes. That line of Tink’s was the best clue that Sneaky Fairy is Sneaky is actual show canon and not just a way to explain Convenient Plot Device Fairy’s General Uselessness!
She decides what is fairylike? Who made her ruler of the fairies? Why is she so determined to not save Regina when fairies believe in helping everyone find their second chance? It has to be because she wanted the curse to be made. Ditto why take an interest in helping Bae.
Now (post “Nasty Habits”) we can add the theories about Pan and Blue. I’m not buying the BF = Pan’s mum theory simply because I think Pan and Rumple are brothers, and I doubt Blue is Rumple’s absent Mummy.
So….
Pan tries to steal Baelfire away via his enchanted pipes. Who enchanted them? Sneaky Fairy?
Rumple takes Bae back but the fertile ground for BF to approach Bae with a way to take away Rumple’s darkness via the portal to another world. There’s already speculation that Blue planned for Rumple’s self preservation to kick in and to separate father and son, thus causing Rumple to invent the Dark Curse (and later giving it to Regina to cast).
It’s all a bit too convenient when tied to Blue’s insistence that “Green” should not help Regina who, at this stage, is clearly not beyond help (though well on the road to darkness). The “her mother ripped out hearts!” line is clearly BS as a dark parental figure didn’t stop her from “helping” Baelfire.
Conclusion: Sneaky Fairy is Sneaky but I still don’t know how she’s all linked. Pan’s revelation that magic is dying out in *all worlds* certainly explains her motive. And as an immortal fairy… she’s got the time and space to plan a long end game.
EDIT: YES x 10000 to the observation about Barrie’s Pan origins (running off *to live with the fairies*) and to the fairies/nuns/orphanages link. Well done all!
swanning-offParticipantConversely they may take a page from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet here: an uncle deposes his brother to posses his throne and his brother’s widow and his nephew the true heir rather than talking to skulls in this case winds up in exile. Just a thought, just a playful thought…
I quite like that crackpot theory. Quite like it a lot!
I loved how that episode played out, with the “is it Hook or Hood?” tension about who Regina’s 2nd Twoo Wuv was. For me, I narrowed it down to those two given the way we were introduced to Lion Tattoo Guy: drinking with mates (crew?) in a pub. Also, from behind, Hook and Hood look similar – deliberately I would say.
Happy it was Hood rather than Hook because I want to see some CaptainSwannage while the Scooby Gang still believe that Neal is dead.
Totally agree on all discussion here about lion tattoo = nod to traditional Robin Hood story re: Robin being a knight of the Crusades that fought with/for Richard the Lionheart (especially as that was the motivation for his story battles against the Sheriff of Nottingham: Sheriff, and in some tales the future King John, are portrayed as schemers taking liberties while King Richard is away; Robin and his Merry Men start to dispense the true King’s justice in the name of Richard) I have no idea how or even if OUaT will bring Lionheart into the EF mythos. Maybe the tatt is just a nod to the tradition, and nothing more.
swanning-offParticipantIt still baffles me actually that people forget about that and are now complaining that Aurora ISN’T running off with Mulan, ditching her TL husband whose baby she’s carrying, yet freaking out about the hint of adultery from Tink wanting Regina to run off with Robin Hood years ago. This fandom I swear…
I just ignore the wannabe moralistic crowd. It drives me mad.
I love that Mulan “came out” in a fashion. So heartbreaking when she relinquished her chance to put Neal’s lessons into practice by not wanting to disrupt her love’s happiness. So adorkable!
swanning-offParticipantI’m thinking that the fact Hook knew where Bae’s cave was, and how to get into it…. Hook came looking for Bae or somehow ran into him. The more parental figure stuff came into it then. Bae would’ve needed some help, and despite feeling peeved at being handed over to Pan initially….
Hmm. That’s the bit that just doesn’t work. We’ve seen how much Neal/Bae can hold a grudge (however understandable) Maybe Hook won him over somehow…. We haven’t seen Neal interact with Hook yet have we? So we don’t actually know what their relationship is like now. The only hint we’ve had is that Neal didn’t seem overly phased about running into Hook in New York and didn’t sound too bitter about their past history (maybe just because he was preoccupied with his father’s deadly injury though)
