Yeah I really wanna know this too. In my head canon Mama Stiltskin is dead and died in childbirth, giving birth to Rumple. His father became a cruel man who hated Rumple and loved Peter. Peter tried to protect Rumple from their father but failed and eventually left home, leaving Rumple behind. Peter went to NL where he became the boy we know today.
Sounds all good, except that the bolded part sounds very Tyrion + Tywin Lannister. It wouldn’t explain why Peter hates Rumple so much. What would explain it…. if Rumple was the golden child despite “causing” his mother’s death and Pan was shoved aside….
In Barrie’s original book, Pan flew off with the fairies at random, and only stopped visiting his mother when he was “replaced” (and barred out of the windows) by a new baby. Tweaking that to be the OUaT universe Dark Pan, Peter ran off when he was “replaced” in a parental figure’s love* by baby Rumple. Older siblings beating up younger siblings from jealousy isn’t out of the ordinary.
* maybe his mother’s love? Maybe Papa Stiltskin was absent/generally hopeless and both boys clung to Mum?
[adrotate group="5"]swanning-offParticipantThe really interesting things with this scene were:
- yeah: downright awesome that PP = Pied Piper as well as Peter Pan
- he seems to only be gathering new friends here, not potential Heart of the Truest Believer. Is this because Magic had not yet begun to disappear from the world? Or just before Sneaky Fairy came to tell him it was disappearing….. ahem. I’m still on the Sneaky Fairy is Sneaky train, and the whole shenanigans with Tink only reinvigorated that line of thought.
- Love that Rumple inadvertently led to Pan’s gang being dubbed the Lost Boys!
swanning-offParticipantWe also saw this in the Enchanted Forest, with the emotional manipulation of Robin Hood to get what he wanted. Much like Emma denying that she is the product of Snowing, Neal needs to reconnect with the fact that Neal = Baelfire = Rumplestiltskin’s son = learnt a lot at the hands of the Dark One…..
swanning-offParticipantThe way Pan called Rumple, “laddie”. I’ll bet that’s what their father used to call him.
Yes! That sounded so much like an older brother talking to his bullying victim…. er… younger brother.
Also, the Rumple/Bae conversation back at their hut after Rumple magicked him out of there. I’ve known him since I was young etc etc.
Serious psychoanalytical gold mine though: exactly what did Mama and Papa Stiltskin do SO WRONG for both sons to end up dark, twisted, abusive magical overlords?!!

I don’t think that Emma disbelieves in Tink per se, it’s just that she’s having a hard time dealing with the tweeness of running around with what in her Real World head should be an iconic animated Disney figure. It’s one thing to tease Captain Hook aka Killian Jones about his Disney counterpart, perms and all, it’s another to suddenly find yourself confronted with the real Tinkerbell.
Favourite moments:
- loved Regina’s EQ smile when the scooby gang learned of GOAT’s fate
- epic feels (somewhat ruined by terribly buffering on the stream I was watching!) at all the Rumple/Bae moments
- LOVED Neal going all nature boy and Rumple being perplexed. Hey dude, your son survived, on his own, in Neverland for possibly hundreds of years before escaping/being let go!
- Emma finally opening up a bit to Ma and Pa. She’s slowly letting them in… would the old Emma have ever revealed that amount of heartache and vulnerability to anyone? No.
- And then Snow’s “I’m a crappy mother” speech
- Hook’s concern for Charming. I love a Princely Pirate bromance.
Least favourite:
- I know it needs to happen for dramatic emphasis and I know that Neal has abundant reasons for not trusting his father…. but darn. It would’ve been good for Neal not to freeze Rumple
- As much as I like Rumbelle scenes, the fact he’s merrily chatting to a figment of his imagination in a forest is a bit …. twee. Like Emma saying Tink’s name, I’m struggling to be OK with that.
swanning-offParticipantYes definitely! The fact that Rumple had knowledge of Pan, and Pan had such detailed knowledge of Rumple…. it’s all coming together. That Papastiltskin Snr has just been cast only confirms things for me. When were we due to learn more of Pan’s backstory? Have Eddie or Adam let that slip yet?
Really like the concept that Pan and Rumple are brothers, although agree that the difference in names is hilarious.

Totally had not spotted him in Silence in the Library. Wow.
swanning-offParticipantdid anyone screen cap what Colin said in response to Josh’s “Charming is the better swordsman”?
swanning-offParticipantNot a flattering photo, but lovely article.
