I think I’m ok with the amont of backstory we’ve had about Rumple. I don’t need to see him refusing to fight in the Ogre Wars, because we’ve heard about it ad nausum. The point is not how he refused to fight, but that he refused to fight. That set up the disintegration in his relationship with Milah and the circumstances that led up to him becoming the Dark One.
What I do want to see though…..
1. What happened to Gerhardt? Is he still locked up in Frankenstein castle and has been there for 28 years, or did he get out of his cafe before Victor was sucked out of that world by the curse?
2. More of Jefferson’s backstory would be good. As cool as it would be to see the Mad Hatter’s tea party, if it doesn’t further the plot more broadly I’m ok with leaving it alone.
3. Hook in Neverland definitely, with Bae/Peter Pan and how the latter left Neverland to become Neal. (Ahem. Just pushing that one further!)
4. The curious case of the missing puppet.
5. George’s origin. Why did he need to go to Rumplestiltskin to make a deal to have an heir? How did his wife become cursed to be barren? There’s more there to explore. I think we have the story of how Snow and Charming won his kingdom – we saw the aftermath of battle. That’s self explanatory. But we didn’t see the “you should’ve killed me when you had the chance”. That is something I think we need to see.
6. Storybrooke: do we stay or do we go? I think the residents need to make a decision by the end of this season – do they try to make new lives in our world, or do they try to go back to their fairy tale world? (Spend this season making that decision, and season three trying to make it happen – that would be my guess)
7. The Blue Fairy’s Masterplan. I think if this doesn’t come up this season, then it’s likely to not be a going concern in the future. She’ll either be relegated to be Nice Background Stuff, or we’ll see the wider picture come out.
[adrotate group="5"]swanning-offParticipantRuthless, without any ethics beyond do what I want to do…. Cora is more powerful because she won’t stop to worry about whether anyone will be disappointed in her.
But she is impulsive, more impulsive than Rumple. He’s been playing a long game to get to the land without magic since Bae dropped through the bean hole. Cora was all set to kill Regina when Hook brought her “body” back to the Enchanted Forest, and then had an instant change of mind. I think her impulsivity will be a bigger weakness than Rumple’s love, ultimately.
swanning-offParticipantMummy raiding Reggie’s wardrobe for civvies?? 😆 I love it.
swanning-offParticipantWas Hook in Henry’s book? I mean, Emma knows who Captain Hook is because Peter Pan is a well known story in our world. But I don’t remember Henry rabbiting on about Hook before this.

I looked at it as adding to the tragedy of it all. Regina sacrificed her soul to make everyone completely miserable. Turns out, they’re not necessarily completely miserable. So Regina’s evilness was in vain. It doesn’t excuse that she did it, it makes it all the more sad what a wretched witch she became, and it didn’t even get her what she wanted.
I agree. I’m sure that Dr Frankenstein/Whale and Red/Ruby would have far preferred to remain in their homes but… y’know, they can see how they have had 28 years of respite from some of the more unpleasant aspects of their fairy tale lives. Much like Sleepy’s “as much as we like things like penicillin….” comment – they can acknowledge that Regina’s curse did back fire in the sense that it took them from feudal lands where disease and death were rampant, to a land where there are civil rights, modern medicine, voting instead of feudal overlords (in theory anyway…. did they not think about the weirdness of electing Regina as mayor repeatedly when everyone was scared of her? Or is that up there with the fuzzies like the not aging for 28 years?!)
Favourite moments: Chip being smashed to pieces (even though it made me 😮 ) Frankenwolf chit chat on the wharf. Snow’s “Daniel came back – what???” Hook’s efforts at chatting up Emma when he was bruised and bashed up. Charming family breakfast with the “enough with the book, I’m sleepy!!” and the discussion of who Frankenstein is – doctor or monster. And Igor… I love Igor – and it always makes me think of the Igors in Pratchett’s Discworld. I just keep waiting for him to say “yeth Masther….”
Least favourite: Father Frankenstein was a prat. I get that was the point, but still… he was awful. Would be good if we knew if Gerhardt had been locked up for the past 28 years or if he went on a rampage.
swanning-offParticipantChipped cup in In The Name of the Brother. From reading the chat on that subforum, seems I was not alone in going “Nooooo! CHIP!” 😆
swanning-offParticipantRumpole is hilarious. Definitely recommend reading them. SWMBO is very much tongue in cheek

For crying out loud! There’s no sneaky shots of the actor for a few days and suddenly a wave of “ZOMG!!!!! Iz Hook dedz?!?!?!?!” starts.
Perspective and common sense please people.
swanning-offParticipantOooooh. Cool. Can’t wait!
swanning-offParticipantShe Who Must Be Obeyed or the abbreviated SWMBO is from John Mortimor’s Rumpole of the Bailey series.
