I think that when Emma saw the dream catcher. She heard the voice from Rumple again, who was telling her just before: “We look into his apartment. Then we see, who he is and WHO HE LOVE.”
I know this are not the exact words.ooh SUCH A GOOD CATCH!!! I didn’t have the sound on and was watching in slow-mo 😉 Yet ANOTHER clue… I didn’t see a picture of him a Tamara.. or anything that said she was important… Did anyone else??
tammythebearParticipantThanks Mich7!! I worked really hard on figuring out how to make that an avatar.
I am Queen of over analysis, so of course I have been going over and over my favorite Manhattan scenes to read between their dialogues and find the true feelings. The alley and bar scenes in Manhattan are my favorite scenes because it is them together again, all alone, charging the air between them and making the sparks fly. It’s like in Tallahassee where you feel like you are looking in on a real private relationship and you get those butterflies like you are the one in love- well, in Manhattan you feel like you are watching a painful reunion of 2 friends you want to get back together- but they aren’t being honest and you can’t jump in, and your heart is breaking but you have let them do it in their own time…. well at least that is what these episodes make me feel. Those moments make me feel like I am there- an invisible fly on the wall watching the world expand and contract around them in their private universe. I LOVE the SwanFire “private universe”.
The way that MRJ and Jennifer play these characters together- with the real story not in their words but in their tone of voice, or in their eyes or face… it adds a whole other level. When they first collide in Manhattan Emma says “Neal” in a different tone- a tone you don’t hear since Tallahassee. Neal says “Emma” in wonder- like it is a private prayer he keeps close to his lips, but thought he would never utter again. He smiles briefly when he says it- clueing us in that he is happy to see her…. Emma looks frightened and vulnerable. I have never seen her so lost. Her vulnerability turns to anger as she rebounds from the shock, but in a way I think she is trying to hide her vulnerability. I love how Neal chuckles a little while he says “I don’t understand what are you doing here”, and starts trying to reassure her when she starts getting mad. (side note: maybe when he says “what are you doing here” all hopeful he thought August told her where he was and he thought she was coming to see him?) I find it interesting that he starts yelling at her when she mentions Rumple and he YELLS “You brought him to me? Why would you do that?”(…. maybe we weren’t privy to something like a scene where he tells her about his dad? They were together at one time…. what DID he tell her about his dad? After she yells at him that she is the only one allowed to be angry he backs off a little because he sees her pain and anger. When she says “was this some sort of sick twisted plan” he looks down like he is ashamed , and then when she says “did you even care about me at all” he looks up and her and gives her a look… … and starts to try to calm her down again. Then Neal starts acting vulnerable and like a child (did you notice his nervousness when he was trying to get her to go to the bar- like a kid afraid he was going to get caught by his dad).
When they go to the bar his whole demeanor changes and he is regretful and sorry. IF I analyzed the bar scene it would take me forever.. But I will say for the rest of the episode there were SO many times when it looked like he wanted to say something. For instance when she says in her completely crushed state “You left me” and there is a pause- he opens his mouth like he is going to say something and then closes it again, and she says “and let me go to prison because Pinocchio told you to!?!?” he says “Emma..” like he wants to say something AGAIN and then she says “I loved you” and he looks down like those 3 words just shot a whole right through his heart and he loses his composure for a second before regaining it. This face says it all though… Emma may be lying to herself- but she isn’t lying to him… CAN’T WAIT for his reaction to the bug… who keeps a car for 11 years??Two other awesome moments that give more clues to their feelings…. Emma’s discovery that Neal kept her dream catcher. I don’t know about you but that face says “WHAAAAT?” as in “WHAAAT- he actually DID care…does care..?”
And then there is this scene where they fall right in line with each other, trying to stick up for each other after he bursts in to defend her from Rumple… the name use was such in a familiar way that Rumple picks up on it instantly. Emma gives Neal the “Please don’t tell him!” look which Neal returns with this look like “don’t worry” , and then when Rumple catches on yelling “YOU TWO KNOW EACH OTHER” (…. yeah Rumps… I don’t know how you didn’t see THAT coming) there is this brief awkward moment where Neal looks like he is going to start to say something before Henry comes in calling Emma “Mom” and throwing ANOTHER monkey wrench into the mix….
Sorry I know that was super long and I could keep going… but I will spare you all -hahaha!!

SO, Jennifer Morrison randomly began tweeting about ugly ducklings. I think this is finally a hint that we will see more of her back story.
So #theuglyducklings is meant to suggest beauty and love and fullness of life in the end. It’s all about the journey.

We have all suspected that she was the ugly duckling because of the name “Swan”, but maybe this sheds more light on SwanFire. What if in order to show the beauty of love and the fullness in which they complete each others life, they have to show the struggle? That’s why Tamara exists? ok, I’m reaching, but OUAT gave us SwanFire only to yank it away painfully like a bandaid by giving Neal a fiancee.
I was excited to read her tweets, and finally have her take on her own character’s backstory. Watching the show I can see how her character parallels the story of the Ugly Duckling. When she was a child she was “abandoned” (even though unknown to her it was for the good of her people), and grew up feeling thrown away, unwanted and unloved, like an outcast. She spends her adolescents on her own, struggling to find her home in the world, like the duckling. Along the way she experiences great loss, pain, and loneliness- interluded briefly by meeting Neil and experiencing true love- then true loss. When he abandons her (again, it was for the greater good of her people) she closes down again and vows not to love or trust. These losses shape Emma into who she is, and who she needs to be. Finally, her luck changes when she grows into adulthood (just like the story) and Henry finds her. She begins to build relationships and let her wall down while finding out that true magic lives inside of her. Early in season 2 episodes Emma feels that she is just fullfilling what Rumple set in motion- but after Cora tries to rip her heart out and can’t and she talks to Rumple about it, she realizes that there is something special about her. Like the story where the duckling grows into a beautful bird and rejoins it’s flock, so too has Emma grown into a beautiful woman full of strength and love. The journey is the story that we are all addicted to- so I can’t wait to see how they make it all unfold! Just my 2 cents on how that all ties in 😉
Did you watch the ugly ducklings video? The responses in the video from viewers that are fans of Emma made me cry.. so sweet!! https://t.co/oEpc0Zww8O
tammythebearParticipantThere is a new magic “rule” that spoiled by Wetpaint for episode 2×16 The Millers Daughter.. “Magic is about emotion” is a lesson multiple people learn this episode.” taken from their preview of the episode on http://www.wetpaint.com/once-upon-a-time/articles/once-upon-a-time-season-2-episode-16-spoilers-10-hints-about-the-millers-daughter
Also there is a reoccuring theme of fate/destiny and Karma- not really “magic” but I feel that ties into the magical rules. Neil said in Manhattan that what he remembers from his father that if something is suppose to happen it will happen (paraphrasing here). ALso the idea that you can’t run away from your fate- even if you know the outcome and try to prevent it it will still come to pass. Also, what you do has an impact on the outcome and it comes back to you, essentially karma. I find it interesting that Emma wears a Karma cirlce necklace…..
tammythebearParticipantI noticed that in Tallahasse there is a keychain that says “Henry” and also “Alice” REALLY visible when you are watching the scene of Emma and Neil in the store. (I have a side theory that Emma is Alice) It was noted also somewhere else on the board that when they leave Neil says “the little guy saved us” and Emma says “yeah the miracle of birth”…. foreshadowing…? I have been rewatching old episodes and notice that things we are learning now are always hinted…. love the thread idea for it!!
tammythebearParticipantWelcome!!! Rumple is one of my favorite characters, and has been from the beginning. I look forward to watching him every week- and truthfully I think the whole cast is AMAZING. You will find that this board is a great place for information and comradery!! I was a lurker for a while but realized it is more fun to participate!! Have fun!!
tammythebearParticipanttammythebearParticipantOMG THIS THREAD IS AMAZING…. why am I shouting!?!?!?….I can’t stop laughing…..

I’d volunteer to take over and curate the list, if that’s allright with you lot… 🙂
Spreadsheets were invented for just such a purpose.
I love the idea of someone having it all down!! Did LittleGhost take it over? I went back to after Tallahassee and after Manhattan and didnt’ see anyone claim my items so I think I’m golden, but it would still be lovely for someone to keep track, no?
