So….. um…. I’ve been away for awhile… No idea what’s going on anywhere. Not in the show, not on Tumblr, not on the thread… So hi?
I’ll admit, the only reason I came back was to look through my old posts to find something specific from the height of last year’s Great Sadness insanity. A certain someone turns a year old today (because I count the day I bought him, not his first appearance on the thread):
So I found a friend while at the convention this past weekend. Since I was away from all of you for so long, I felt required to own him. Not sure what to name him.

With regard to Neal’s “fighting for” line, I think that’s open to interpretation. A lot seem to take it as he’ll never stop fighting for HER, as in, to “win” her, but I think there’s an alternate interpretation whereby he’ll never stop fighting FOR her, as in, being on her side. I think that second interpretation is more true to Neal as he was (I especially think of that conversation in the woods in 315,) where what he wanted was her happiness. He’d never stop fighting for her, as in, he’d never stop fighting on her behalf.
One of these days I’m gonna figure out gifsets and parallel those 314/315 conversations, I swear I am…
Yeah, that’s always how I interpreted Neal’s declaration. It was never about him trying to “win” her, or her being a prize, but letting her know that he would always have her back, that she would never have to worry about who’s side he was on, and that he would always be working along side her for her and Henry’s best interests. I never saw it as him trying to win her affection (I always figured he didn’t think he was worthy of them anyway, but if someday she could forgive him, then it would just be a bonus), just him wanting to know that she always had a friend and support system with him if she ever wanted it. But that’s just how I always saw it.
I think the problem is that Hook very obviously views Emma as a prize and object (he’s only told Emma he would “win” her dozens of times), and so non-Neal fans always just assumed Neal was approaching it from the same way, which I don’t think it true to his character in the slightest.

I am sad to inform you all that I have returned to Canadia. It is cold and wet and snowy up here, which it was not in the place I left this morning. I am disappoint. I’m also losing my voice and missing my (to quote DSB) “fanning”. Alas.

As for this weekend, I’m still undecided. I just might end up calling you Saturday with a “SUPRISE, I’M HERE!” I have to look at the weather and decide it my car can make the journey. I really want to be there. I don’t want to miss out on any fun with the Canadaland invasion. If I do come I’d probably drive in early Saturday morning and spend the day and maybe night. Aggg, why can’t it be summertime. I wouldn’t waffle at all.
