textbookoneParticipant@textbookone you’re my homegirl!!! How cool is that?? I’m a 905er now but I grew up on the Danforth. Good to finally see someone from my neck of the woods here!
@callmeLola – Hi!! Toronto born and raised (though with a 12 year gap as a 905er as well, but always a Torontonian at heart). Sadly I’m leaving T.O for a brief stint in Alberta shortly, then off to school in the fall in the less fabulous London (you know which one). Hopefully I’ll be back home soon after that. Toronto is in my blood and no where really feel as much like home as here.
Oh, you may enjoy some of the upcoming Puck photos, since I spent a couple of hours taking pictures at the Music Gardens, Harbourfront and Roundhouse yesterday. Maybe some familiar sights? http://wherethebuffaloroams.tumblr.com/

Hi guys, sorry to invade your thread but I have a question for @textbookone. That train looks awfully familiar, did you take that pic at Roundhouse Park in T.O?
It was! I was there yesterday! Proud Torontonian here!

textbookoneParticipantFeeling at little ranty over on Tumblr this morning (I’m also sleepy, and annoyed that I can’t fic chat with people, because I need to fic chat right now):
So let me get this straight, I’m a hater because I have the nerve to look at a story that I loved and instead of being willing to blindly overlook it’s (continually increasing) faults, I want to look at it critically, point out the flaws and ask it to be better? If I really hated something I would walk away and remove it from my life completely.
The fact that I’m still around, still writing metas and fanfics is the exact reason that I AM NOT a hater. The fact that I can’t seem to remove this show from my life, even though I know it’s just going to continue to break my heart is because I love it too damn much for my own good. I don’t hate it. I hate parts of it. I hate what it makes me feel. I hate where the story is probably going. I hate that in the beginning it was the perfect mix of action, adventure, fantasy, romance, emotion and heart, and now it’s only a shell of it’s former self. I hate that I KNOW what it has the potential of being, and it’s content to just play to the lowest common denominator now, instead of digging deep like it used to. Sometimes it does, but not often anymore, and when it does it is often forgotten.
I hate all of these things, and maybe that makes it seem like I just hate everything, but I don’t. I love the heart the show can have. I love the fantasy world they’ve created, and the characters that I feel compelled to play with in fanfiction. I love that this show has made me think critically about relationships, both what I want out of them and what I don’t. I love the friendships I’ve made through this show. I love the inside jokes we’ve created because of it. Not matter how I may want to, I can’t hate something that has brought all this to my life. So interpret my desire to look critically at what was once my favourite show however you want, but then look at yourself and ask why you’re so offended because I don’t see things like you do.
I’m not a hater. So get off your high horse and stop hating on me.

textbookoneParticipantAnswers to OUAT that I better freaking get before the show is over
1. Why did A&E obviously set up swanfire in S2 and then completely change everything to fit a CS endgame in S3?
2. If CS was “planned all along” then why did they set Hook up as “villain worse than Regina or Rumplestilstkin”? To follow that up, why did they have Hook beat innocent women and threaten innocent lives and sexually harass our heroine? Is this really how a romantic hero should be set up?
3. Why did they have Neal’s entire arc about second chances, and then not give him one? To follow that up, why did they have rumple tell him he would find happiness if he obviously wasn’t?
4. Why did they have Emma admit her love and need for Neal, and then in S3 she didn’t give two cents about him? Such as flirting it up with Hook, and concerned about his safety but not the father of her child’s, the one she “loves”?
5. Why is Hook continuously shown as a cheating fraud, in contrast to Neal staying good and selfless, yet Neal is rotting in a coffin and Hook is living it up with the dream girl? Shouldn’t it be reversed?
6. Why is Neal set up as an important character, and then barely shown in S3? To follow that up, why is an irrelevant character like Hook given way more screen time than needed in S3?
7. Why did they, including MRJ, tell fans to “have hope for Swanfire” when they “planned” Neal’s death a long time ago? Pretty sick move by both if that’s true.
8. Why is Emma portrayed as a woman who wouldn’t take crap from any man in S1&2, yet in S3 she is passive to Hooks disgusting remarks to her, and even flirty and giggly towards some of them, such as the corset comment in the finale?. The Emma I know would have snapped at him for that.
9. How come even Neal’s own father, who spent centuries trying to find him, accepted his death and didn’t even bother to save him?
10. Why would Emma lust for Hook, knowing all the crap he put her, Henry, and other innocent people through?
11. Why is Bluecricket not canon yet?
12. Why is CS being pampered, despite the fact that compared to the fandom as a whole, it’s incredibly small?
13. If they were going to kill Neal off and make CS endgame, why tease Swanfire? Why make it seem like Neal was important? They still could have given Neal a happy ending, he could have had his papa and Henry, and later down the line another special someone? And if like most believe, and Neal’s death was sloppily planned to end the LT, why couldn’t they just have swanfire “break up” and move on? Emma and Neal didn’t been get to work through their baggage. Neal still could have had a happy ending, there was no need to kill him.
14. And lastly, am I honestly supposed to accept that an abusive, creepy, sniveling pirate is the romantic hero for our protagonist, and he will be loved by all and have everything he ever wanted, while the REAL hero, who was brave, selfless, pure and good, gets to rot in a coffin?
If anybody can answer these feel free because I’m so lost and confused with everything that is OUAT, now excuse me while I get tested for E.coli because I have swallowed so much crap this past season.

textbookoneParticipantWhy I Was so Sure that Swanfire Should have been end game
I have no idea how Adam and Eddy whipped up that lie of ‘Captain Swan was forever going to be endgame’. If Captain Swan was meant to be endgame from the very beginning, then why did it have no build up? Why was Hook portrayed as some stalker who is overly obsessed with Emma and is also overly obsessed with making jokes that are quite sexist and are towards the rapist side of things?
Swanfire, on the other hand, had so much potential. Neal and Emma were, and still are, perfect for eachother. Neal is the son of darkness, Emma is the daughter of light. Both Neal and Emma grew up without much proper parenting and were both lost souls, trying to find a home. They found this home with eachother. After they fell in love, they were planning to settle down; they did not need anybody else but eachother. All Neal wanted was Emma. And by reading between the lines of Tallahassee, it is quite obvious that Emma really wanted Neal too.
Emma kept the keychain and made it into a pendant. Emma kept the yellow bug. Neal kept the dreamcatcher. They had Henry, who has the heart of the truest believer.
Even Peter Pan himself said that it was no coincidence that Emma and Neal met. It was fate. Rumpelstiltskin ships Emma and Neal together. Henry ships Emma and Neal together. The Charmings ship Emma and Neal together. Belle ships Emma and Neal together. Mulan ships Emma and Neal together.
Neal fell in love with Emma. Just Emma. Not princess Emma, not savior Emma, not bailbonds Emma. Just plain Emma. He loved Emma when she was at her lowest. He loved Emma, and changed her into the best version of herself. Neal made Emma smile. Emma made Neal smile.
Emma and his boy are all Neal has. Even twelve years later, Emma still defines ‘home’ the way Neal taught her. There are so many parallels with Swanfire and Snowing. There are videos made about these parallels on youtube.
Emma remembered that Neal hates mayo. Neal and Henry both reject magic.
The writers have been dropping all these beautiful hints for us, showing us more and more ways how Swanfire is connected. But, alas, it all came tumbling down because Once Upon A Time has changed into Once Upon A Hook. How could you? How could you sabotage this beautiful relationship between two lost souls just for a few desperate fans and one devilishly handsome pirate?

I have reached that point in the summer where I just don’t care about ONCE at all.
Oh no wait. I never had this feeling before because I was always excited about this show.
I am in a foul mood. Or rather, I was jut put into a foul mood.
Whatever.

textbookoneParticipantOkay, so I wrote a thing again. Before I publish it on Tumblr I wanted to share it here and see if there was anything people wanted to add/change, since I want this to be something that represents more people than just me. Sorry about the length…
Dear ABC’s Once Upon a Time fans attention conventions this summer,
If you are like myself and a great number of other fans of the show, you might be disillusioned by how the events of season 3 played out this year. If you are not, please disregard this letter. For those of you who are planning to attention any conventions or events this summer where Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis may be in attendance, you may have a unique opportunity to represent large portions of the fanbase who feel the same as you and have questions for A&E regarding certain events and decisions from the season. If we can stand together and ask the important questions at these events we may stand a larger chance of both having them actually be addressed, but also make a point to A&E that their fans understand the larger implications to the universe of the show and that we will not be pacified with BECAUSE PLOT answers. There is a difference between plot holes and having the foundation of the universe shaken beneath our feet and NOT having it addressed.
The following questions are not solely mine. They are a combination of my own questions after the conclusion of season 3, and a multitude of metas. Unfortunately I have not kept track of all the individual arguments, but MANY people have essentially been rehashing the same (very valid) arguments. I’m just taking the opportunity to distill them into what I personally would consider the most essential questions that need to be addressed. These are open for debate, but I hope people will understand the point that I’m trying to make with them first in their arguments for or against.
First, MAGIC WITHOUT A PRICE? Except for when there isn’t?
One of the fundamental tenants of the show has been that all magic comes with a price. In episode 3×19 “A Curious Thing” we see Snow, with the assistance of Regina and Charming, recast the Dark Curse (and this is not even addressing the plot hole in 3×11 where Regina tore up the original Dark Curse, which should have therefore negated it’s ability to be recast, no?). Snow succeeds in casting the curse by sacrificing the Thing She Loves Most by crushing Charming’s heart and indeed killing him. Up until this point it had been hammered into our heads that ALL MAGIC COMES WITH A PRICE, and yet Snow, a non magical person, is able to come up with a successful loophole by having her own heart split in two by Regina, and both Snow and Charming surviving on one half each. Charming surviving in Storybrooke without anyone the wiser to his half-heart infliction implies that there was no cost to casting what was supposed to be the Curse to End All Curses.
If this is true, why has there ever been a price for magic? If we can loophole our way out of this one, why can’t we do that for all magic? It cheapens every other sacrifice, and every warning we have been given since the very first episode of the series. Universal rules are meant to be adhered to, as it gives the universe the story dwells in coherence and foundation. If we can break a rule once, why not every time? Why not every rule? It makes what is supposed to be a unique and unexpected twist contrived and weak, and makes the arguments for why other rules can’t be broken seem petty and maybe even a little vindictive.
Secondly, DEAD IS DEAD? Except for when it’s not?
Another major theme in Once has been the Laws of Magic, one of which being that dead is dead and no magic can reverse it. While Once Upon a Time in Wonderland was built around the plot point of breaking said laws, by the end of the series that was shown to be a temporary change, and that going forward all the laws were primarily intact. We are lead to believe that this is a fundamental tenant in this universe, so when we see Graham, or Cora, or Billy die, we assume that they have reached their final end and that there is no going back. Yet in season 3 alone we have seen the Blue Fairy, Rumplestiltskin, Pan, Neal, and Charming die, with all but two of them being revived either within the same episode, or shortly afterwards. We would believe in the weight of these deaths more if the rule of DEAD IS DEAD were not constantly being bent and broken. Many Neal fans are angry and confused because nearly every other death this season has been shown to be reversible, and the argument that his sacrifice was heroic means little when compared to the other deaths this season that have been of equal sacrifice, but yet not permanent.
If DEAD IS DEAD, then why is this not the case for everyone? The use of loopholes and plot devices weakens both the universe as we know it, as well as the story overall and is an example of poor storytelling. We as fans want to believe in the story as it’s been told, we want to understand that there are rules to this fantasy world in much the same way there are rules to our own, even if they differ through the use of magic and whatnot. Our faith in the actions the plot and characters take in the show is shattered when we see that only selected actions stick, and yet when the creators tell us in interviews to believe in what we’ve seen, we are just supposed to blindly follow?
Fans are not stupid, and when we can’t follow the plot anymore because it no longer follows the established laws of the universe, then they either start asking questions, or they leave. Sometimes both. It is one thing to tease that the laws can be bent or broken, and it can be incredibly dramatic to actually follow through, but there should also be acknowledgments about how important that is to the overall universe. Characters discussing how this should not be possible, and if it now is, what else can be changed? Is there a price for breaking these laws? If not, then WHY NOT?
There are so many little instances this entire season that can be tied back to these two questions. While I have no real faith that these issues will ever be addressed in public, it is my hope that by having more people reading and hearing these questions we can increase the more people thinking critically about what exactly has happened this season. More people thinking about these questions will increase the chance it may be addressed either directly to Adam and Eddy, or that maybe members of the media who have a greater access to the creative team may take up our torch and address these concerns directly. I understand that this hope is mostly in vain, but nothing will happen if we chose to do and say nothing.
Regardless of whether you agree with these specific arguments, I implore you to consider the questions you plan to ask A&E. Plot holes and glaring continuity problems have been rampant this season, spending time on these questions can potentially keep us from answers to the more important questions: Why have Adam and Eddy changed the fundamental basis of the show, and if this was intentional, why has it yet to be addressed? There have been no interviews addressing these issues or what their implications are to the larger vista of the show, and I feel that they are either hoping that we did not notice them, or that we will forget their impact by the time season 4 airs. The fans are dedicated, intelligent people, and I think we need to show Adam and Eddy that they should respect us enough to give us straight answers for once.
