Now on the three week mark (February 14), I’m willing to wager we’ll be getting a Hades Clip much like they did with Zelena’s Wicked Is Coming, only the tagline for this season will be #HellIsHere or #HellIsComing. Probably just with Hades walking down Storybrooke Road, leaving a trail of death and destruction wherever he passes.
Is it bad that I really want this? I really love Hades and his Greek mythology backstory, and he’s so great in the movie too! Other than seeing Greg Germann film like a scene with Zelena, we have no idea how he’s going to really look, how he’s gonna act, and what his powers are/motivations. Will OUAT stay true to the Disney movie like they did with Merida? Will they do their own spin like they did with Peter Pan and Arthur? Seeing just a tiny tease clip of Hades would really go a long way with me in getting excited for the upcoming back half here.

Absolutely agree. I thought that episode was so well done. And it really truly felt like a series finale. As far as jumping the shark is concerned, I think season 4A fits that description the best. However, I think I’m one of the few people who enjoyed the frozen arc. So while it may have “jumped the shark,” I thought it was actually well done in how they were able to twist the frozen story, recreate a villain from the stories that frozen didn’t use, and then make us feel sorry for her when we found out what her true intentions were. And I enjoyed the ending because we never really had gotten a villain sacrifice themselves like that (other than Rumple I guess). It proved that although the Snow Queen was a terrible person, once she got what she wanted (unconditional love from her sisters), she saved everyone and sacrificed herself. And the scene with her running with her sisters again was heart breaking. Plus they foreshadowed everything with the note Elsa’s parents sent overboard, and I think they also incorporated Rumple very well into the arc. The frozen arc fit with the ouat universe. It left some characters in the dust, and it was a huge attempt at ratings, but I actually enjoyed the arc and enjoyed Elizabeth Mitchell a lot.
So although they jumped shark, I think it was rather successful. I enjoyed it way more than season 4b. At least there was resolution in 4a with a definitive ending. What we got in 4b and 5a was unfinished and inconsistent storytelling.

thedarkonedearieParticipantWow I like her.
thedarkonedearieParticipantmy guess is version 1. It would sense since they already did the whole, get out of storybrooke, I can’t deal with you anymore, banishment. Plus they laid down the seeds of Rumple becoming a hero again earlier in the season, and although he chose darkness again, I bet he has a change of heart and somehow gets rid of it for good. Maybe the UW would be the place to rid the darkness forever. It would seem like a good place to keep such dark magic.
thedarkonedearieParticipanthope they don’t show anymore of the characters from Greek mythology then they already are. A one off with Hercules and Megara, then Hades throughout. If they are going to be in the Underworld, it should be about the main characters and the people they killed or lost.
Agreed. But what if it leads us to Olympus with Zeus and others? They realistically have one more season in them and getting the Gods involved seems like they are building towards the end and involving potential characters in charge of all the realms or something. They have always said they have an end game, and with them going to the UW and then only having a season after to wrap up the show, Olympus seems like it could be the end game. Not saying I want it to be. I for one will be very disappointed if I never see Aladdin or Jasmine on the show, but they have to start wrapping things up by the end of this season.
thedarkonedearieParticipantBut he also wrote Smash the Mirror, which was pretty decent. I don’t think there is a rule to which writer writes good episodes and which one writes bad ones. Even A&E had bad episodes (511) and Jane Espenson (503).
What’s funny is I too actually looked at the body of work for Jerome Schwartz on OUAT and overall was quite happy he was writing this episode. As you pointed out, he worked on Smash the Mirror which I enjoyed, Enter the Dragon was a miss I think too, but he worked on Sympathy for the De Vil, which I thought was outstanding. And this season, he did do Broken Kingdom. Funny enough, I enjoyed broken kingdom mainly because it showed that Snow and Charming aren’t total idiots (and I didn’t get offended like some people did and I think the guy who played Arthur did a solid job of portraying the cry baby obsessed, manipulative child that Arthur was). And then, he worked on Birth which I thought was very good. Overall, I’d say I’ve enjoyed the episodes he has done.
thedarkonedearieParticipantBased on Hades shocked expression with the flower…I would guess that something is going wrong in Hell. Life is all of a sudden springing forth in the one place it never should…nine times out of ten due to the Savior Emma being in it’s domain. Emma’s ultimate light magic is bringing life to a place full of death. Hades being Hades, will not like someone bringing something tragically beautiful into his beautifully tragic domain.
I too find this rather clever. And based on what I’ve heard from A&E regarding Emma’s savior status just beginning, this seems like a great theory after seeing Hades with the flower. And I definitely would give the writers some props here, if this does pan out.
I also love the idea of Hades promising these people they can move on if they tackle their unfinished business, but then never provides any way for them to do that. Although, is there a possibility A&E could go the route of someone who is just mistaken and we just think he’s a villain when he actually is not. They have done that before. Although Hades was cozying up to Zelena in those pictures, but maybe he was condemned there by Zeus or whatever, and maybe Zeus is the actual bad guy. Honestly, flip flopping roles would not surprise me. A&E also said that they won’t be spending the whole back half in the UW and that the UW will lead us to something much bigger. To me, that screams Olympus. Also, Greg Germann just doesn’t come off as that guy who is going to terrify me, or come off as an evil villain. When Arthur was cast, that actor had red flags all over it. He just looked menacing. I don’t get that here with Hades.
thedarkonedearieParticipantLet’s just pray that Her Handsome Hero is Rumple instead of Gaston. I literally put nothing past OUAT at this point in the game…and Gaston was most known for his narcissistic behavior considering he was “handsome.”
Uhhh that would be awful. What I’m hoping is that her handsome hero is referring to Rumple, and she sort of is making fun of Gaston. Like, she doesn’t need him, her handsome hero is right here, and his name is Rumple.
thedarkonedearieParticipantShe also pulled that book out in the brief scene with her mother in 406. Clear shot of the title there.
Yes, this is just as significant with Belle’s relationship with her mother as it is with Rumple. The first time she read it was with her mom as a kid.
