I think we’ll see some of it–like what happened to Agrabah, but that can easily be done in one episode.

This would be so disappointing.  If they treat this like they treated Arthur and Guinevere or how they treated the end of 5A when Emma was clearly supposed to be darker than she was but instead made Hook the DO, I will puke.

Well I disagree that Rumple’s motives were to protect his son. I think Rumple’s doing what Rumple does at this point in the show–he protects himself first and foremost. He wants to protect what is left of his broken and fragile ego and sense of self worth (a thing I used to adore about him) and because he can’t face the idea of another son not loving him (which is codswallop…seriously, someone bring up Bae and not just as a reminder that he died!) he panics and resorts to black magic and trickery and abuse and manipulation. It’s self preservation, not protection. I has nothing really to do with loving his son and everything to do with hating himself and maybe that’s sympathetic (Bobby’s acting like you said does sell a lot of this) but that doesn’t mean that Belle or Gideon or anyone–least of all the audience–should be hoping for a happy, lovey dovey ending because his methods are deplorable. The best case scenario is that Rumple gives up his magic and goes to live a life of seclusion, to ATONE (a concept this show has historically done poorly with) by accepting what he said way back in 3A “villains don’t get happy endings.” Maybe he’s actually right about that. Maybe he doesn’t get one. I don’t think he should anymore. I think his happy ending is inner peace and not external love. And that either comes through a life lived alone or through making peace with himself before death.

This I agree with.  But unfortunately I do think that by not having Rumple accelerate the pregnancy, they are setting us up for a Rumbelle reunion at some point.  It’s not what I want either but I think that’s what’s going to happen.  Before this episode I thought there was no way they could mend this relationship but after this episode, I can see the writing on the wall.

Your questions are good ones and I have answers, but Imma wait a week if that’s okay. Since we have one more episode to go, I’d rather talk about my frustrations in our seasonal-arc review.

Fair enough.  Something tells me you won’t be able to persuade me on this one.  At least with the whole idea that this chunk of episodes had no point or direction.

OMG I don’t care about Lee and Jim. And yes, I am a broken record on this topic but really…don’t care! (Also, is Morena leaving? I heard she got a new gig on NBC?)

    Bring back Mulan!

And with this reveal will also come Mr. Gold’s first name.  Is it possible Rumple was just the weird name given to him by his father?  Maybe Black Fairy did name him before she abandoned him.  This just opens up so many doors and the mythology of the fairies.  So it will be interesting to see what they do in the back half of the season.  Will it be about the mythology of the fairies and the Black Fairy’s emergence?  Will it be about saving Agrabah and dealing with Jafar?  Will it Savior mythology and dealing with Emma’s death sentence and dream?  Or all three???!!!  All three are very intriguing to me.

Honestly, this reveal, makes me more concerned that Jafar will get thrown by the wayside, not Black Fairy.

Black fairy killed Charming’s dad.  Put my cookies in on that one.  And it would make sense that EQ knew that when she teased it to Charming earlier this season.  She established at the end of this episode that she knows Rumple’s mother was Black Fairy, or at least a fairy.  And then she hinted that she knew who killed Charming’s dad.  THAT”S BECAUSE IT WAS BLACK FAIRY….there is just no way they would give us that reveal, have Blue Fairy take Gideon away, and then not see Black Fairy again after that intense confrontation with what I thought was great acting by the woman who played her and her costume was on point as well.

My problem is that I don’t think the writers are going to go anywhere with this. Yeah, this opens up a lot of narrative doors but are they REALLY going to go down them? It took years of fans asking in the Hot Seat to finally give us this tiny morsel and I’m not convinced it was planned out in any meaningful way. I think it was “hey! They want to see the Black Fairy. They keep asking about Rumple’s mother. Two birds…one stone!”

Oh if this doesn’t get fleshed out….I’ll be so pissed.  But let’s not condemn them for something they haven’t done yet.  I didn’t see anyone predict Black Fairy could be Rumple’s mother so props for the reveal and keeping us in the dark.  That hasn’t happened in awhile on this show.  Great reveal, makes sense, now let’s see more of her.  How did Rumple know she was his mother?  How did she not know?  Did Belle know this whole time?  Did EQ know this whole time?  These are answers I want.  Now we may not get them but I can’t condemn the writers for something they haven’t done yet.  I can grade them on the reveal which was awesome.  Now let’s see if they give us more.  Man they friking better or I’m going to end up getting all Mulan-angry again.

liked the idea that she named him after the character in “Her Handsome Hero”. It genuinely felt like something Belle would do.

Agree 100%.  And I really do wonder where Blue took Gideon.  It’s intriguing.

Or it’s an entire season not two half seasons and these characters are being introduced now and will be flashed out as the season progresses…..you guys wants answers before we even get to the half way mark.  Now if we go the whole season and never see Jafar again, then I will be mad.  But it’s too early to say that the season is pointless.  They are introducing a lot to us.  Now let’s see if it all comes together.
