Also worth noting that the original finale title was posted as, “Let Love Rule,” which I would have preferred.  It would have highlighted the goodbye scene with Garrett and Jessie.  Not sure why they ended up calling it, “She Talks to Angels.”

I found myself really disliking the first half of the finale, and then liking the second half.  Jessie emerged as the hero, and how they ended up catching the demon I thought worked well.  And it tied things up nicely, despite leaving questions about the mythology unanswered.

Here’s a few Lost spoilers because the parallels are just too much to ignore, so turn back if you must……..

I think the motive for the dark side was somewhat that of Lost’s smoke monster.  And if you will, this camp was sort of like a cork keeping the darkness at bay from reaching the outside world and wreaking havoc.  The light side (Holyoke) is like Jacob.  Sort of the protector to make sure the darkness doesn’t get the chance to leave.  It seems like Garrett will now be resuming that role since Holyoke is like completely gone (at least that’s what the writers said after the episode was over).  So basically Holyoke was Jacob, the demon was the man in black, Garrett is Hugo (or you could even say Garrett is like Jack in the sense that he sacrificed himself, helped defeat the demon, and then reunited with his dead father in the afterlife), Jessie emerged as a Kate-type-hero figure (delivering the final blow and then being one of the few who make it out of the camp alive), and Blair and Drew were basically Rose and Bernard just floating through all this mess but not really having a major play in how it all ended haha.  Now if only they had a dog…..

    Liked:

    – So much death.

    – Lail’s acting as a crazy psycho demon actually was solid.  “WHERE’S YOUR CAMP SPIRIT!”

    – Jessie Tyler vs Marco Polo bathroom scene.  Creepy and well done I thought.

    – I enjoyed all the flashbacks in this episode, especially Blair and Cricket’s.

    – The twist with Garrett actually being dead.  Damn they got me!  I thought it was just crap writing because I mean how on Earth could he be alive.  But I dismissed it, and then they surprised me.  So yay for that.

    – The final goodbye for Jessie and Garrett.  Ahh yes, Townie and Braces.  I liked it.  A little mushy, but I liked it.

    Disliked:

    – Still many questions about how the demon got there, and other mythology stuff, but I’m assuming they didn’t want to reveal everything if they had plans for future seasons.

    – Cliche dumb cops who don’t know what’s going on and get killed in a matter of minutes.

    – What about Amy’s actual soul?  She didn’t go into the water at the end, and really got zero closure for her character as a whole.  At least we got closure with Locke.

    – Them running around the whole episode and hiding.  Then just one by one “sacrificing” themselves for literally zero gain.

    – Blair and Drew basically sent all those officers to a watery grave.  Did they really think they would be able to help without, idk, explaining the situation to them (like there’s a crazy demon going around in the form of a blonde girl and killing everything in its path).

Overall I’d give the show a 6/10.  It had many flaws and many cliches but it was still entertaining and had its good moments.  Until the next season I’ll leave you with this:

“Nothing happens by accident, kiddo.”- Jack Sykes

“Everyone dies sometime, kiddo.”- Christian Shepherd

Seeing more of Hook’s relationship with Milah on the boat would be helpful.

At this point in the game, give me better writing.  If we lose more in the ratings then they will be forced the end the show and that is a good thing at this point.  Let’s start planning for the end, writers.

So a thought just occurred to me.  A big problem I am starting to have with the show is the flashbacks aren’t feeling very organic anymore.  So when these guys were writing on LOST, I never felt a flashback was just thought of at the beginning of that season and then told subsequently a few episodes later.  I always thought that we got a snippit of a character’s life and that each flashback made sense and felt like they knew this story from the beginning and were just waiting for the right time to get to it.  With OUAT, I felt this was true for maybe the first 3 seasons.  But now, I feel like they think up new story lines for the upcoming season and then incorporate the main characters in present day and flashbacks to fit what they want to tell at that particular time.

So for example, all these untold stories….now our main characters are going to be tied to some of them.  This is a plan the writers never had from the start of the show when they were creating these characters.  So when you say that Hook seems like a Captain Ahab type with Rumple as the whale.  You’re right!  They do.  But that is such a thrown in and not organic at all.  They just want to tell the Moby Dick story so now all of a sudden Hook is thrown into this flashback, a flashback that was not thought up of until they started planning this season.  It’s frustrating, and it hinders the success of the flashbacks now.

Ok that makes more sense then.  Ind I’d be a little disappointed if the show got canceled and we never found out what she did.  Since she had the mask in her closet, I’m guessing she was a follower and turned away from the evil to the side of good.  Kind of in a Snape sort of way.

I am not as familiar with how ratings should be to be successful on networks like Freeform.  Are DOS’s ratings still really bad, even for Freeform?

In the event that this is 20,000 Leagues, I bet we’ll get a CGI giant squid, which we technically already got in “Nasty Habits”. You know what that would mean? More squid ink for Jeremy!

Oh he’ll love that.  Maybe this squid is the source of all the magic squid ink?????!!!

Ok let’s delve into this here: Overall I enjoyed it, but had some issues here and there.

    Liked:

    – Amy being evil the whole time.  That was a twist that no one saw coming.  I mean, we thought that the final person behind the mask was possessed Amy, but thought it could be a plot hole bc certain people died before the lightning struck.  Turns out, she was just a horrible person who killed her whole family, and the people at the camp before she was even possessed.  Bravo writers.  This was good.

    – We kept asking why the demon chose Amy.  Well, it wasn’t bc she was the purest of them all.  It’s because she was the most screwed up of them all.  Very nice.  Hooray for actually getting answers.

    – As much as I didn’t like Jessie living, Deb dying was a shocker.  I still thought someone would come in and save the day.  But nope.  Ax to the face.  She really thought a knife would kill it?  Geez Deb.

    Mixed

    – Who messed with the piano keys?

    – Why was Deb not the most innocent person?

    – Was it really necessary to bring back that random girl from Amy’s flashback?  Didn’t serve much of a purpose.

    Disliked:

    – Deb didn’t really save anybody.  She is not the hero, and she is not the villain.  WTF.  Very odd character and ultimately, kinda fell flat for me.  If anything, Jessie saved the kids and Deb by sacrificing herself.  And yet, she still lives.  Bc she is the “purest,” is she the only one who can stop the demon.  We know you can’t just shoot it, or knife it.  Can anyone else see a magical macguffin appearing in the finale?

    – So what’s up with Blair?  Is he really the only person not getting a flashback?

    – THEY SAID SNUFF OUT THE LIGHT!!!! HAHAHAHAHA

    – Jessie living is a bummer.  Why was her soul so pure?  SHE had the purest soul?  That’s what they are going with?

    – Still lots of cliches.  All the bus driver stuff basically.

    – How did young Amy kill her family exactly?  She couldn’t have known her brother would lock her in the garage.  This puzzles me still.

So one week left.  I feel like we may be done with the flashbacks.  I just don’t see Blair getting one in the final episode here.  So what on Earth is going to happen?  Does anyone else get the feeling that they actually might kill everyone, and the demon lives on so they can do another season?

So they are in fact going with short hair Rumple?  I think I like the switch up if that’s the case.

And how about that creepy morgue scene.  The creep factor was high in this one.
