All I want is to care about Mr. Hyde. I want to see clear motivations. Is he even a villain at all? Although I enjoyed the actor’s portrayal of him, I just am not in love with the character itself. Maybe the show can flush him out more and I’ll change my mind.
One thing I will say in regards to villain of the arc half season storylines: It got me excited to see how they would portray said villain. Ex. Pan, Hades, Cruella, Malificient, Ursula, Snow Queen, Elsa, Merida, Arthur, Wicked Witch. With going back to season 1 vibes, I think it ultimately is a good idea. But with season 1, we had the curse, and Regina manipulating everyone. She was the villain. And Rumple was a wild card. With this coming season, are people really excited to see what Mr. Hyde is doing? Do we really want to see Regina’s “split” identity of the EQ? I’m still not buying that this should even be possible. There’s just nothing that has me super excited for this coming season. Perhaps at comic con, they will show us something that gets me going, but right now, I’m kind of luke warm on everything, character wise. Hopefully the writing will be better due to no half season arc with villain of the arc writing, but at the same time, I’m worried nothing is going to stand out. This also seems like they aren’t pushing towards the finish line so a lot of this could be just filler. If they had come out and said this was the last season, I’d be way more intrigued.
[adrotate group="5"]On another note, I still find Elizabeth Lail to be pretty dang annoying. There’s this presence to her on screen in this show that is so simpering and demure and meek. The guilt trip with the cookies she gave to Jessie was the first time she had any sort of personality.
Yeah I know the writing is so great, but the other actors are doing a much better job than she is.
Yeah I don’t really care about the characters either, although I once again enjoyed the flashbacks in this episode. The dialogue writing seems super clunky and I feel bad for some of the actors. The mythology part is the biggest thing this show has going for it. Was that actually blotter at the bottom of the lake?
Well I think a lot of us were doubting whether anyone could come close to what James Woods did as Hades, but then Greg Germann surprised a lot of people. With that in mind, I just don’t think you can leave out the genie if you bring in Aladdin. I would expect they would at least try and get someone to do the genie justice, and since they just did it with Hades (granted these are two very different characters), I think they have no reason to think they won’t have similar success with casting the genie.
I’m sort of on the fence about this. On one hand, I do think bringing in new characters to specifically interact with our main characters in present day storybrooke is something the show desperately needs. However, I’m afraid they will once again get too giddy with their new toys and forget about our main characters again. Although, with Archie coming back, and the story seemingly taking place in present day storybrooke, it looks like I may get the best of both worlds.
Regardless, the storytelling is going to be different because we aren’t traveling to a new realm. There will likely be flashbacks to different realms, but it’s not the same as the gang going somewhere to save someone with a villain of the arc who dies at the end. Plus, we aren’t getting the half seasons anymore. And while I think the half seasons can and were successful at times, the writers kind of lost their touch with that by not sticking to an original outlined story (Hook becoming the DO and being evil instead of Emma is just the latest change on the fly). So despite them saying they want to “broaden” things, they are changing things up, and at this point, if they aren’t going to end the show like they should, a change is not only welcome, but a necessity.

I doubt it. That was the shadow’s doing last time via Pan. So unless the shadow isn’t actually dead, or someone let him out of that candle thing, she may actually be out of the box.
I don’t see him as Aladdin though. Kinda on the chunkier side, older. Aladdin barely was able to eat. It wouldn’t look right. Maybe he really is Sinbad….
Yeah just some of the looks she gives after she gives a line here and there are just not natural or off.
