Sure that’s very possible but with this show you never know. For them to suddenly give more details about the death of character for whom we don’t even have a name and for it not to be an attempt to bond Violet and Henry (already bonded through death of a parent) just strikes me as odd. Like why that extra information? Violet is with Henry, she doesn’t need more reason to go with him to NYC.

Yeah agreed.  You know how it struck me as well.  It seemed like unnecessary information that they only put in there to foreshadow something in the near future.  And with the untold stories plot coming into the fold for next season, that could play right into the Maleficent and Lily story line.  And why not tie that story line in with a character who is snuggling up to the SQ’s son?  It may be nothing, but similarly to wanting to see the dragon again (which we did when the writers got back around to it in the story they were telling), I want to know who Lily’s father was, and it felt at the time in 4b that they were hinting that it could be someone worth meeting some day.  And they didn’t kill Lily or Maleficent.  They just sort of left them there.  It felt like something they could go back to, and honestly, other than the Phillip and Mulan story line they never told us and never will, they sort of have gone back and filled in some missing pieces (especially this last half arc), and given us some answers to questions I never thought we would get.  So I don’t see any reason why not to believe they would come back to the Lily arc either.  And since it seems they are keeping Violet around, they have to make her a little interesting right?  And her father actually being from our world, and her mother actually dying from magic, seems like the stepping stones for something bigger in the next season.

He recognized there was a portal coming, thought about it briefly, and grabbed the shard first.  I mean, that’s in plain simple terms.  You can’t wake the girl if you don’t have the girl.  And as far as the finale of season 3a goes, he was sacrificing himself for everyone, not just Belle.  So I’m not sure it’s the same.  But sure, if you want to include that then that’s fine.  But I can’t think of a single other instance where he chose her over power.

And I’m not sure I buy that he feels that whenever he doesn’t have power, he loses people, so that’s why he wants the power.  He lost his son Bae when he had all the power.  Belle kicked him out of storybrooke when he had all his power.  And Belle put herself under the sleeping curse when he had all his power.  It’s the choices he’s making with the power that is screwing him, not being weak and not having the power.  Maybe that is something he will never understand.  He thinks he needs more power to have everything he wants so he doesn’t lose anyone or anything, but really, all he needs to do is give up his power and make the right choices, and he can have his happy ending.  But at this point, for me, another violent switch in his beliefs, choices, and values in an attempt to right the Rumbelle ship would just be nauseating as I think he is just simply past the point of no return.

Oooh, but does he need both? Belle, yes, for obvious reasons. But does he actually need the crystal (which he thinks will give him “more power”) to wake Belle? No. What he needs is to let go of the darkness, let go his power, and be a better and different man. He doesn’t actually *need* that crystal for anything, he’s just unwilling to do what actually needs to be done to wake his wife.

Yeah like this is an easy one for me.  He doesn’t NEED the crystal.  He wants to have his cake and eat it too.  To do that, he needs the crystal.  But if he just changed to be a better man for Belle, TLK would wake her.  In this scene, he pauses and absolutely thinks about what to grab first.  I don’t even think he thought he would only have time to grab one of them.  It was an instinct for him.  He made a very calculated choice.  And let’s be honest, he wasn’t even sure if having the crystal and all of storybrooke’s magic tethered to it would bring back Belle.  He was simply hoping it would be enough power to make it happen.  And in the meantime, he likes the power the crystal gives him.

At what point are the Rumbelle shippers going to stop turning a blind eye to Rumple choosing power over Belle every season.  Name one time he chose her over power.  The only time that comes to mind is in Season 5a finale, but really he was sacrificing himself for everyone, not just her.  The only other time he lost his power was when the apprentice basically forced it out of him to save his life.  He had no choice or a real say in the matter.

I am fully off the Rumbelle train.  He will never choose her over magic.  I think that was made quite clear in this scene.

You mean Violet? As in Violet and Lily are full blown sisters?

Whoops.  Yeah that’s what I meant.  Why bring up that her mom died?  why even bring up that her father was actually from here?  Seems like there is more to this story.

Favorite Episode- Tie between Sisters, Souls of the Departed, and Our Decay.

    Least Favorite Episode- Ruby Slippers

Hades and Underworld- Greg Germann was great!  Hades was cool.  But no flashback and no clear motivations killed it in the end.  The underworld was cool and allowed us to see some familiar faces, but there were a lot of complications about what it actually was.

Favorite moment- Zelena, Regina, and Cora reuniting.  Close second was Henry meeting Henry Sr.

Least Favorite Moment- Ehh, too many to count.  Probably just all the convenient plot points.

Returning Characters-  Wish we saw Graham.  Glad we saw Neal, Cruella, Blind Witch, and Henry Sr.

    – Looking Forward to: Finding out what Hyde wants.  How Rumple plans to wake Belle.  Will more characters get split up like Regina (I hope so, so we can see Rumple in full form again).

    Overall: B

    – Best since 3A.

I’m hoping the Violent connection with her father actually being from our land, and with the addition of the untold stories, that we will actually get Maleficent and Lily again.  My guess: Violet’s dad is Lily’s dad.  And Maleficent is actually Lily’s mom.

Yuuuup. I think that’s his season 6 arc too. Though I think it’ll Dark One Rumple vs Spinner Hero Father Rumple. The bigger question is who wins.

This I can get behind.  And we would get Rumple and not Gold.  That’s the one thing that was missing from this half season.

I thought the actor for Mr. Hyde was good.  But I have no idea what his motivation is.  Why does he want to be running storybooke.  Is this actually the science vs magic story line?  Does he just want all the untold stories to get their time in the sun?  What does he want?  I just wish they clarified his motivations a little better going into the hiatus.

Quite the interesting finale.  Mixed bag here but mostly good.

Squeaks by with a 7/10.  I’m doing both parts.

    Liked:

    – Regina and Emma Scene in Neal’s apartment.  One of the best scenes of the season.  When they actually spend time with character development, it’s so good.  And these two desperately needed to chat.  Lana was great as always.

    – Rumple going for the crystal before Belle.  That’s all you need to know right there.  I no longer can root for this couple.  The man will never love her more than his power.

    – Overall, I liked Henry in this episode.  And I liked the kiss he got in the end and Emma and Regina’s reactions.

    – Regina’s struggle throughout the episode was fantastic.

    – Mr. Hyde.  I think the actor was good.  It will be interesting to see what they do with him next season, and what other untold stories they are actually going to tell.

    – I love the EQ.  Splitting her up allows them not to butcher Regina’s development.  I just literally have no idea where they are going with this.

    – Hook using his Hook to stab Hyde.

    – YAY DRAGON!

    – An August reference!

    – Many Neal references.  It was nice for Henry to continuously talk about his Dad and refer to him as such.

    – Henry using his author abilities to take the crystal.

    – I thought the CGI was solid for the most part and the new land was interesting.

    Mixed:

    – What was Rumple going to do with the sterling silver plate and that table with the markings on it and the crystal?  What was his plan before Henry destroyed magic.

    – So there are more story books?

    – So are they going to delve into Violet’s father now?  That just seemed like quite the random thing to drop on us if they weren’t going to explore it.  Could Violet’s father be Lily’s dad?  Could Maleficent be Lily’s mom who supposedly “died?”

    – The fountain scene.  Ok so this is a very powerful message from OUAT and it is very season 1.  And I get what they were doing.  However, it was so incredibly corny, and I’m not sure something like that works so great on the tv, but the message was clear and that part I liked.  And I liked it came from Henry, who has the heart of the truest believer.  Hooray for not forgetting prior plot points!  But would a bunch of busy New Yorkers really stop dead in their tracks to listen to a kid next to a lion?  Not convinced.  But having them think it was some sort of magic show, worked.

    Disliked:

    – So there’s another holy grail?  In a random library?

    – Henry’s bi-polar behavior.  So by the end, he’s back on team magic again?  What about all the reasons he decided to go Rogue in the first place?  Nothing has changed.

    – Too many convenient plot points.  Like the apprentice’s wand breaking.  Of course.  The holy grail being there when they needed it.  And there were many more.

    – Roland being raised by the Merry Men.  Like what?????  I know it wouldn’t work to have Regina babysitting all day and raising Roland, but come on.  How on earth is this the best for the child.  Robin would be rolling over in his grave if he knew Regina would just forget about Roland.  And I know Regina was somewhere else so Zelena had to do it, but like I doubt she will even mention Roland going forward.  He was still very cute though and the CGI of the getting sucked into the portal was cool.

    – So what does this mean going forward?  I thought this would be the magic vs science story line but I’m not sure it is.  Like why does Mr. Hyde want to be running storybrooke?  We didn’t even get his motivations.  And like isn’t everyone there powerful enough to overthrow him?  I just don’t see him as that big of a threat.  He has no magic capabilities.  He’s just really strong.  I was sort of hoping the Jekyll and Hyde stuff would lead us to a bigger villain because I don’t think Mr. Hyde is big enough to carry a half season.  I realize they have brought the EQ back to help, but I really hope next season is more than just a collection of misfit characters getting the arc of the week and a crazy EQ going around (not sure what her motivation really is either).  After all, the EQ was only horrible because of what Snow White did.  She only killed people to get to Snow White.  So will the EQ just want to kill Snow and her family still?  I really just don’t understand the motivations for either villain which is problematic when we are going into hiatus and have no idea where the story is going.

I’m also sick of the finale’s having nothing to do with the overarching plot of the season.  They have done this like three straight times now and I’m not the biggest fan.  It takes away from the season.
