There is some type of connection between him and Red. At the comic-con this summer, Meghan Ory even made a comment that if Red starts morphing back into a wolf again she’ll want to take a bite out of Dr. Whale. I think she said something along the lines of, ‘because he wasn’t very nice to her.’ I’ll check later.
And yeah, he was a creepy lech in Storybrooke! But…I wonder if he did something to her in Fairytale Land as well. On top of probably being Dr. Frankenstein – maybe he was something along the lines of a Van Helsing traveling around the villages catching monsters. Specialty in werewolves?I remember reading that Lil’Red. It might be another clue about Dr. Whale being Dr.Frankie. There was the 1935 flick, Frankenstein Meets the Werewolf. These two never got along in old horror flicks. Not sure about the comic books though.
It could also mean that Dr. Whale is another wolf, the real Big Bad Wolf. Ruby, I’m sure, would love to take a bite out of him.

I disagree that anything from any book is fair game. I think they have to keep it in mythical realm. They can’t do like comic book characters. There has to be a line in the sand. And things like Dracula or Frankenstein seem to be silly and would cross the line, in my opinion.
hjbau, Kitsis and Horowitz have they themselves stated that we could see Marvel Comic characters popping up in the series. Those are their words, not mine. Disney owns Marvel so it wouldn’t be a problem.
Time and time again, they’ve told us, ANY STORY BOOK CHARACTER. Disney obviously considers Frankenstein story book material or they wouldn’t have released the animated children’s movie Frankenweenie. Twice I might add. Back in 1984 and a newer version out in theatres Oct. 5th.
Kitsis & Horowitz can make any fictional character work. That’s their special magic. Personally, I’d get bored with the series if we only saw the nice little fairy tale characters. I say bring on the unexpected and let;s all get spooked!

I don’t care for the theory that Dr. Whale is Frankenstein. That book does not fit in the least within the world we have been presented. The character of Dr. Frankenstein has no reason to be in an enchanted forest. He is from a completely different era and setting.
The enchanted forest is but one world. The series will be exploring many worlds and they’ve already confirmed that the curse has brought all the worlds together. We’re already seeing time travel so I wouldn’t count on any particular era or setting from here on out.
I think they are going to follow what the fans like but let’s face it, these writers are going to have a blast scripting in their own favourite stories and characters. Anything from any STORY BOOK is fair game.

If Whale is Frankenstein, then possibly the orderly who is seen in the secret hospital floor is the Monster.
The orderly is another take on One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. He’s Chief Bromden from the movie.

Regarding non-fairytale and/or more real world storybook characters, Kitsis and Horowitz confirmed that the nurse in the hospital dungeon was Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, a book set in a real world mental hospital, which was published in…*googling*…1962. So a character from a science fiction novel from the 1800s certainly wouldn’t be off limits.
Quite right, Phee 🙂 The custodian is also a take on Chief Bromden from the movie. I just about chocked on my coffee when I first saw them on screen. I keep waiting for someone to offer him a piece of Juicy Fruit Gum. LOL!

ParticipantAw….Marilou. Not to worry. Theories are simply that: theories. Where would the fun be if none of us never had any? Right or wrong, it’s all good 🙂
Thanks Lil’Red 🙂

ParticipantWerewolves are not fairy tale characters and they’ve incorporated them into the series. So why would Dr. Frankenstein be such a stretch? Frankenstein is part of Marvel Comics and Disney owns Marvel. They said we could possibly see Marvel characters showing up. It’s story book characters and not just fairy tale characters. Dr. Whale has a history with EQ. I’m sure EQ would love to have her father Henry & Daniel back.

Participant@ Lil’Red, I tried posting on Tumblr but I find the site so confusing. Still can’t quite figure it out, but then, I’m technically challenged 😉

ParticipantJust a few thoughts I’m throwing out here.
1) Lana Parrilla stated in an interview that EQ had a good heart deep down inside. She was hoping we’d see EQ redeemed at some point. So there is hope for Rumple that he will rise above corruption of his own Dark Lord curse.
2) K&H have said now that the curse has broken it’s a whole new set of rules. Have to wonder if that is also applicable to Rumple and the dagger. Perhaps there is another way around breaking his curse now that all worlds have seemed to join together and we have a whole new set of rules.
3) K&H when asked “is Henry’s father someone we’ve already met?” responded “can’t answer”. Emma has met just about every character we’ve met, except of course Bae. It’s looking promising.
I just hope the writers can live up to our expectations of a Bae & Rumple reunion, be it good or bad. As I’ve said before, the scenes between Gold & AWB were so intense, it will be a very tall order to fill.

ParticipantAgreed Gypsy. I’ve mentioned in a previous post, on another thread, that there was a 1943 movie, Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman and that both characters are quite often associated together, thus the Ruby connection.
Something else regarding the clue “tail” as in “Once Upon a Tail”. Disney is set to release, on October 5th, a 2012 version of Tim Burton’s 1984 film, Frankenweenie. A tale about a young boy named Victor FrankenSTIEN who resurrects his small dog. Don’t know, but when you think about dogs do you think about tails wagging?
One other thing. In the 2×01 promo, we see a lynch mob gathering outside Reggie’s house. Funny how in all the endings of the Frankenstein movies, there is almost always a lynch mob at the castle.
If K&H were playing by Lost rules, everything sure would point to Frankie. But with OUAT and what we’ve seen with August, not so sure. I can still hope 🙂
