ParticipantThis could be Lancelot’s daughter instead of the son like the original story had they could change it to a girl that he had instead, thus would lead into more of the Camelot story Merlin etc.
That would be an interesting twist just like Jack was being a female. She would be Lady Galahad rather than Sir Galahad. This could also introduce the Fisher King and the Holy Grail. 🙂

Although not really a fairytale, Pollyanna would be fun to see!
Yes, but this show isn’t just about Fairy Tale characters, we know it can be about any storybook character, mythology, folklore, classic tales, gothic tales, etc. That’s why we’ve seen Dr. Frankenstein, Midas, Siren, Robin Hood, Sir Lancelot, etc.

ParticipantI was chatting with Gypsy and Kellyn1604 this evening. We think it could be Pollyanna (played by a young Hayley Mills). It is a Disney movie. She was a young orphan who suffered many challenges but still looked at the brighter side of things until her car accident. She lost the use of her legs. She eventually overcame her fear and sadness, was an inspiration to everyone and eventually learned to walk again. They do say “crippling fear” in the casting call. Hayley Mills was a wee “lass” and the British darling of the world throughout the 60’s.
A close contender would Mary McDhui from The Three Lives of Thomasina, another Disney movie. This was about a young Scottish (lass) named Mary (played by the same little girl who starred in Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) whose cat, Thomasina had died. Because her father (a vet) failed to save her cat, she withdraws from the world until Thomasina eventually returns, having been nursed back to life by a good witch named Lori. So we have an element of magic with this story.

ParticipantI don’t know about that Hocus Pocus movie, but trios are a significant trope. We mentioned before the fates as 3 spinners, as it is the old Greek myth. Moirae . Now I wonder if Bae’s friend Morraine was not BF herself? Read on in there they talk about people dying in battle remaining as shadows in the underworld. I know someone RG? talked about the Odyssey in relation to Rumple’s story. Disney owns a few properties that reference these archetypes at least indirectly. “The Moon Spinners” though its an offhand thing there, and the reference is only explained in the novel but it is to the greek myth itself. Disney did a very awful rendition live action version with Haley Mills in that 70′s era. The novel though is by Mary Stewart (who wrote that Merlin trilogy I suggested on another thread The Crystal Caves). Could tie back into Ruby of they ever get her on, both with Wizard that made her cloak, child of the moon, I don’t know. Just coincidence though. Disney also had the rights to The Black Cauldron which was based on The chronicles of Prydain, a classic novel by Lloyd Alexander, itself a bit of a remix of welsh myths but includes in The foundling, most notably three spinsters who who take in a small boy . There is also a norse incarnation, the norns. This version brings in a magic tree, Ygrdissil. There is also that fairytale The Three Spinners someone brought up that sounds very like The Rumplestilskin origin fairy tale too. Something is for sure going on with them!
OMGoodness! LOL! I should read the entire thread before I start replying. 🙂 I just posted about the Moirai. The name is also connected to the movie Hook and the book series Wheel of Time. Great minds think alike. 🙂

They’re also dressed very well for poor spinners. And they’re dressed almost identically, apart from their jewellery and their shawls, (one has a dark grey/almost black one, and the other is more reddish brown). The different jewellery in particular really stands out. If they’re just a couple of women who spin in their home, are they really gonna have matching uniforms? Their clothing makes me suspicious, but I dunno what to make of it. And then there’s just 2 of them, but characters you think they could possibly be, come in sets of 3. The 3 fairies who raised Aurora, the 3 Fates. There was some talk before the ep aired about how Malcolm is the name of a character in Macbeth, and in that there are 3 witches. And those witches have the gift of prophecy, which is totally a thing that relates to Rumple’s life, and the bean is a thing that’s built into how the prophecy played out later on with Bae, so 3 prophetic Shakespearean witches would totally work…if there wasn’t just 2 of them.
Why am I always late for the party? hehehe. I was just mentioning this theory on another thread. In any event. MysteryKat posted last week about the Malcolm and MacBeth connection. The Fates seem to make perfect sense. They were also called the Moirai which really brings to mind thoughts of Bae’s childhood friend Morraine; thoughts of Moira, Wendy’s great grand-daughter and PP’s wife in the movie Hook; and thoughts of Moiraine, who wielded the weapon Balefire in Wheels of Time.
Now what on “the magical” earth could have made Rumple’s mom (a 3rd Fate/sister) disappear or pass away?

ParticipantA popular theory is that Rumple’s mother was one of the 3 Fates who died or somehow disappeared. They were 3 in total and they were Goddesses. Also called the Moirai. They all were spinners. A thread represented someone’s lifetime. One spun the thread, one determined the length of the thread and one cut the thread.

ParticipantEddy Kitsis confirmed in Journey to Neverland that the boy was in fact Henry.
I’ve always maintained that Rumple’s undoing will be the end of the Dark One’s curse via him sacrificing his life for Henry’s and that’s why the dagger will be used. Rumple believes that in killing Pan he will die so he is in fact sacrificing himself for another. He is the Beast after all at has to transform at some point. Daniel brought this up in discussion this past February here in this link:

I don’t think Rumple will lose his powers though, he’ll only transform to a decent man. If Regina was able to learn magic and acquire it through study, surely this is a skill Rumple will maintain. Thus his undoing is not the loss of power, rather, it is the loss of the Dark One’s soul, his curse.

ParticipantAm I the only person who realized that Rumpelstiltskin might have gotten his high pitched giggle from his father?
LOL! I just responded to Matthew from Page 2 on that very same subject. Absolutely agree with you! I could hear Rumple’s evil impish voice in Malcolm. Casting did a phenomenal job last night!
