Gave in and watched the Swanfire scene. GAH.
The sheer chemistry between them …
It’s funny. I was talking to my husband last night and he wanted to know why I wasn’t interested in watching the finale. (He was going to try to keep the kids occupied for two hours and everything! Good man.) I had told him a little about why I felt the way I did after 0315, but this time I went into more detail.
He’s just finished a rewatch of the original “Battlestar Galactica” from the 1970s, a show he hadn’t seen since he was a kid. (Yay, Netflix.) He didn’t remember a lot of the context, so he also read up online about some of the events surrounding the show.
The show ran only one season in 1978 to some acclaim (OK, it’s cheesy to modern eyes, but in a classic ’70s way), then was restarted in 1980. However, the network apparently got involved and dictated all manner of things, from character relationships to “educational content” to script changes … and it bombed and was canceled after 10 episodes. He said everything I told him about OUAT 3B made him think of that.
So, unfortunately, that sort of thing is not unheard of. (That was even ABC!) And I think SF just feel prey to it.
(*snort* Can you just see someone picking up OUAT 25 years down the line for a “reimagining” the way BSG was? )

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantThe Carrousel Scene, this is what I love about Emma and Neal there was so much hope and so much life with them and I rooted for those crazy kids to get their happy ending. I wanted that lost boy and that lost girl to find a home, a family. One would get that the other would not. Perhaps this is a Jack and Rose thing like the Titanic situation. Death separated them, but Jack gave Rose some inspiration and hope to break free from her beautiful prison. Rose married, had children, loved and was happy. She went on with her life but she never stop loving Jack. And when she died, her spirit Joined Jack on the titanic by the clock. I like to think that Emma and Neal will reunited with each other on Carrousel by the beach, in their own personal heaven called Tallahassee.
*sniff* Yeeaah, this. This is my headcanon.
Someone needs to write it. Hmmm …
I’m not saying I’m going to, necessarily. (Crazy busy lately.) But Ranisha, if I did, would you mind? Your idea.

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantLisaS, I’m in. We’ll see who else is.
Anyone else wonder if Henry’s distress in the finale will be linked at all to trouble in S4? I could see Henry trying to see if he can tap into his own magic … maybe to bring his dad back … especially since he has the example of Marian right in front of him now. They could even link a Henry-his family estrangement to Elsa-Anna if they wanted.
Not that I’m watching any of it. But I wonder.

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantDidn’t watch the episode, but read spoilers. Couldn’t stay away. I needed to talk to somebody. 🙂
(Side note: If the over-reaching theme of Season 4 is “Actions have consequences, which I hope it is, Hook’s “issues” may yet come home to roost. We’ll see. Or I won’t “see,” but I’ll read. *shrug*)
Anyway, what I came back for: I was thinking about the last TV death I was really upset about (Trip on “Enterprise” … I don’t watch much TV, can you tell?) In the Star Trek novels, they completely ret-conned the death. (They did the same with Data’s in the “Star Trek: Nemesis” movie.) And there have been other times my brain has simply refused to acknowledge something like this (the Lone Gunmen in “The X-Files”) and in my personal head canon, it never happened.
We have lots of really creative people here. Let’s put together our own ret-conned season 3B. And maybe even 4 and beyond …
We could call it “Project Phoenix.”
It doesn’t have to be a total script re-write, although it could go there if we eventually want it to do so. Starting out with the episode names of 3B, those interested could write a synopsis of each episode the way it should have been. Then if there’s still interest, we could write outlines of each episode. Then on to actual vignettes … and/or scripts.
I think it would be cathartic. And even … fun? And Neal would live on in something more than our hearts.
Thoughts?

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantEh, seems I can’t stay away completely yet. 🙂
I do trust if we get a miracle you’ll all holler on Twitter, right? Please?
Did anyone see Colin’s tweet, with the #boom? Either a clue or really, REALLY tacky.

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantHey. Before things start getting crazy at my house for Mother’s Day, I wanted to pop in and say hello, and likely, goodbye. I’ve always hated “goodbye cruel forum” posts, but this isn’t really one of those. Perhaps a “goodbye cruel show” post.
Just wanted to say I’ve appreciated having this thread as a haven and place to sound off. 🙂 You’re amazing, creative and talented people, and I’ve enjoyed “talking” to you immensely. And I wish you all the best.
I’m not planning to watch tonight, although I’m going to keep an eye on spoilers, etc., on the miniscule chance we have a miracle. I’m not expecting one. (Sorry, Capt. Kirk. This communications officer has abandoned the Bridge of Optimism.) I’ve barely been able to look at the forum all week. The show I enjoyed so much has become something that gives me a stomachache. Isn’t that sad? So I sincerely doubt I’ll be back. This is no longer a story I want to see.
And, yes, I consider CS positively repugnant. Colin may be a nice fellow (I’ve never heard otherwise), but this whole story (as they’re telling it now) reeks of the triumph of style over substance, and I’ve never been able to stomach that. And there’s a particularly nasty message there I know many of you see too.
I’m still SF all the way. I just see too many places that story was being built … until, suddenly, it wasn’t. And no one will ever convince me it wasn’t due to either MRJ asking to get out (which he says he didn’t do) or CS whiners. (I know that term is not particularly polite. I do not particularly care.)
And so, best wishes to you all. It really has been fun.
Be well.

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantEh. Those interviews have finally done me in.
I just wrote something for work about women and their right to say no, to tell someone “not interested” and “go away” and be listened to and RESPECTED and how absolutely essential it is to teach our daughters (and our sons!) that … and for a show I once loved to be delivering this horse**** portrayed as SO ROMANTIC …
Just no. I hope Twitter blows up on them. But I’m done.
I’m actually nauseated. This has killed any remaining affection for this show like even Neal’s death didn’t manage.

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipant“Puck” keeps making me think of the show “Gargoyles.” Anyone remember that one? I highly recommend it. A 1990s Disney cartoon that dealt with Shakespeare, folklore, etc., very well-written. (Many Star Trek-related voices.) I was a huge fan.
Shakespearean scholar that I have been (English minor), that’s still the Puck I always think of now. 🙂
Here’s a “Midsummer Night’s Dream” quote for us in this SF thread:
“For aught that ever I could read,
Could ever hear by tale or history,
The course of true love never did run smooth.”Or this one for season 3B:
“If we shadows have offended,
Think but this, and all is mended,
That you have but slumber’d here
While these visions did appear.
And this weak and idle theme,
No more yielding, but a dream …”---

And death shall have no dominion.”
-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantIs it wrong that I’m ever-so-slightly encouraged that — despite the fact I’m sure they got many-many Neal/Bae questions — they didn’t go near the subject at all? Would have been very easy for them to say, “Yes, he’s really most sincerely dead; you’re not getting anything more there.” After all, that’s hardly a spoiler now.
Probably. But I’ll take what I can get.

“Though lovers be lost love shall not;

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantFrom the lightning round, they say the way Hook came to get Emma will be addressed. I’m wondering if it really is that he went from their time-travel foray right to NYC for that. If so … maybe that’s how he could say that Emma “broke his heart” this season when that was so absolutely ludicrous at the time. Maybe she finally does definitely in the past.
Interestingly, I don’t think they said anything that sinks MO322 …
