You know … I said before that if Belle died, I would likely stop watching the show, but probably not if Neal died, although I’d be very, very disappointed. I’m a grown up, we don’t always get things to work out the way we want, I’d be upset if SwanFire didn’t happen, but I’m not telling this story.
I have to revise that now. If Neal dies and they simply let Hook quickly step in as father figure and love interest … just, no. 😛 It seem like insult on top of injury that so many people seem to adore Hook and dislike Neal, when I consider Neal so much more of an appealing character. One who just plain hasn’t gotten a chance prepared to Mr. Guyliner, beloved of ABC.
(I don’t truly dislike Hook, I don’t think he’s been used well either. I’d be just fine seeing him stick around in a different sort of way!)

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantTrue. Hmm.
I’d swear there has to be more story there, from the Eva who tripped Cora, to the Eva who was so beloved as Leo’s queen and Snow’s mother. Something changed. But what? And could this be connected? This would seem to be the right timeframe for it, but that’s a lot to weave together.
Not that that’s ever stopped OUAT before …

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantEven if she thought she could bring about Eva’s downfall that way? But Eva somehow wound up slipping out of it? I always thought Cora’s hatred for Eva was more than could be explained by what we’ve seen.
I don’t know. 🙂 But I do think that people might be barking up the wrong tree with thinking Leo’s “not afraid to open his heart, coveting more from marriage than just a political arrangement” meant that true love was Eva. He may have loved her by the time we saw them, but he might not have started out that way. There might have been a spell, or something might have happened to his first love. (And he just came to love Eva over the years.)
It seems like first loves/true loves is a theme we’re seeing in OUAT lately. (Eerrgh, I hope they don’t apply that to SwanFire. :P)

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantI think maybe WwW and Leo were in love, but for political reasons he married Eva? WWW and Cora became friends, each wanting to kill Eva, but then Cora had Regina marry Leo. And Regina killed Leo. That would be a reason for revenge?
But Leopold seemed like he was head over heels in love with Eva when we met him Fruit of the Poisonous Tree. If anything, he was supposed to marry WWW for political reasons but chose love and Eva over politics.
What if WWW and Leo were in love … and Leo intended to follow his heart and marry her … but Eva wanted him and went to Cora for a love potion? Cora would adore having her hated rival in her debt.

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantOoooh. Belle somehow or another goes to the castle to reminisce about her time with Rumple or see if she can find a clue about him … and finds Lumiere, who is human again … and he gives her a clue to believe Rumple is still alive and how to find him …
Lumiere was a great matchmaker in the movie, I believe. 🙂
What could he tell Belle? That Rumple is no long the Dark One because he’s human again, but that’s still alive because … why? I could totally see Lumiere getting to deliver this news and setting off the great quest.

Actually this fits my headcanon with how I think the season of Rumbelle plays out.
He’s in Hades and Belle has to rescue him in a gender swapped tale of Eurydice and Orpheus. (and succeeds this time)
I would love this.
I do wonder about another sacrifice to bring him back, though, somehow. That say a symmetry to appeals to the fairy-tale trope fan in me. If it’s Belle, or Bae/Neale, though … no, that’s just too much, that’s just TOO painful. 🙁
So who else might be willing to do that for Rumple? Or .. Belle or Neale, the ones who care about him the most?
Or what if they need Rumple’s powers to stop/defeat the witch and that’s why the person makes the sacrifice? (Which is then … ugh … potentially wasted if he’s lost his powers?)

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantI have no interest in speculating on this anymore. It’s exhausting and every person is going to believe something different based on how they interpret the show.
But this is my question: how many of you will stop watching if it is your favorite character/second favorite character? (don’t cheat and come back with “but RG!! It won’t be my favorite character!!”)
Everyone knows my favorite character is officially out of the running but my second favorite character is getting a lot of “it’s him” and I find myself conflicted. I always imagine I was here for the long haul. And I probably will be. But I will be profoundly disappointed.
If it’s Belle, I might stop watching. Oh, I’d keep up on plotlines here to some extent, but … my heart wouldn’t be in it, you know? This presumes, of course, at Rumple is out there and they’ll be reunited. 🙂
If it’s Bae, who’s my favorite after Rumbelle … Sigh. I don’t know if I’d stop watching, but I’d be bitterly disappointed.
I’m going to throw my hat in the ring, however, and say that I think it will be Hook. Because I could see it being the most effective story for a few reasons. And to maximize the number of characters it affects, I think he’ll doing it saving … not Emma, but BAE.
That would make the most storytelling use of his death. It’s a gut punch for Emma, especially if he does for her sake. It’s a shocker for Bae/Neale, because I believe Hook’s been looking at him as a son of sorts for years because of Milha. (But the reverse was not true for Bae.) And for Rumble: What if one of his greatest enemies just made the ultimate sacrifice to save HIS son.
It’s true (in all fairness) that I don’t particularly care for the character of Hook (Colin cracks me up), but I also think it makes a lot of storytelling sense.

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantI wish we could! They used to come here in January every year, but not in 2013 … or in 2014, as far as I know. I’ve interviewed skaters for it a few times. 🙂
“Beauty” by McKinley is one of my favorites. (As are “Rose Daughter” and “Spindle’s End,” which is a decidedly different take on Sleeping Beauty.)
As far as Marillier goes, her Sevenwaters series starts off with a story based on “The Six Swans.” (Loved the first book, read the second, haven’t read the rest yet.) And her “Heart’s Blood” is … well, let’s just say it’s rooted in Beauty and the Beast. 🙂 I recommend it.
One I finished recently: “Indexing,” a Kindle serial by Seanan McGuire. (It’s coming up in print edition soon, I think.) Very good, very hard to describe: Think fairy tale tropes keep trying to come true in the “real” world, and this is the story of the people who try to stop them. (Because generally, the endings aren’t happy at all.) I highly recommend it.
We should start a book club!

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantI agree the disparity was … interesting. So much so that I’d like to go back and rewatch the scene in the shop. Was there something besides the sword he might have been looking at, something that could have given him a plan? Or something special about the sword itself?
