Hrrrmmm. This is true. They did say they were going to examine what might go on if someone chose to remain a child forever, the effect that has on the psyche, didn’t they? Stark raving nuts certainly seems a possibility.
Guess I just find it rough to imagine any parent saying something like that to their child. 🙁 I have two little boys.

He was immature and sent his son away so that he could play out those childish dreams, yes … but he also had a tear in his eye when he sent Rumple away. That’s a poor father indeed, but one who could later say those incredibly awful things to his son? And sacrifice his own great-grandson? And play those demented games on everyone on the island? My main impression of Malcolm was simply immature. Not “a demon.”
I think what we’ve seen as Pan is a melding, for lack of a better word, of Malcolm de-aged and another entity … possibly the Shadow. Something far more evil. And as the years go by, it’s gotten more and more of a hold. So much so that the Malcolm core/personality is the merest … shadow.

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantHe also calls Pan a demon and makes it clear he knows Pan is capable of amazing, awful things. While Malcolm was certain NOT a good dad and broke Rumple’s heart, we saw no sign of those amazing, awful things in this episode.
Another thing I’m musing over: A few episodes ago, Pan asserted (and it seemed Rumple agreed) that killing him would also be the end of Rumble.
But why? It would mean killing his own father, and that’s awful, but why would it have that effect?
Or is there some connection between Pan and the Shadow and the magic of the Dark One after all?

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantA fresh start, eh? Sounds like it could have the unintended result that Dad is regressed to childhood, becomes obsessed with keeping it, and becomes Pan. 😛 I don’t really like the notion, though. It just feels … off. I’m trying to articulate why.
Have they ever notably left out actors who do make a small appearance? I would so love it if Blue would up being the one who gave Rumble the item, whatever it is. (Hmm. Maybe the doll?) Would be an interesting parallel to when she later gives Bae the bean.
Or maybe Pan giving Rumble the item is the parallel to Blue’s later actions. (To say … his mother? 🙂

They need to explain how Pan and Merlin can coexist on the same little island without the place being an apocalyptic war zone. Maybe Pan won that war and took the enemy wizard prisoner. That could even be consistent with the Papastiltskin-in-the-box idea.
Wait, what?
Did I miss something?

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantHmm. I like the Wendy idea. Especially coming right after Pan messing with Hook over Emma. Here’s why:
Pan wouldn’t put Bae up there right next to someone with whom he could likely communicate if it wasn’t going to mess with Bae for some reason. And being reintroduced to Wendy, someone Bae apparently had strong (although possibly brotherly) feelings for in the past, might just mess with the fragile thing he was starting to see again with Emma in SB.
Man, Pan seemingly has it in for this family so much I do have to wonder about that brothers theory …

-- Dylan ThomastheoniongirlParticipantI also think we’ll see “real” Belle in NL before the end. But I think Peter Pan might somehow be involved with getting her there to further mess with Rumple & family. No real reason, just a feeling I have. :/
You’ll appreciate this, I think. I had a dream last night that opened with Rumple and Pan in a clearing in NL. Pan has Henry and Bae and Belle and Rumple knows this. However, Pan offers to let three of them leave NL, with the intent clear that it be Rumple and two of his choice. So Rumple could take Bae and Belle and go and leave behind the boy and his undoing and essentially have everything he wanted; Bae wouldn’t even know it was Rumple’s choice and not Pan’s.
Of course, because it’s Pan and he’s tricksy, Bae and Belle are watching this, somehow kept silent, so if Rumple makes that choice, he’s ruining everything anyway. Because, hey, Pan really likes to mess with this family.
Rumple … agrees. (Bae, unheard: “Nooooooo!”) Then he tells Pan that the three he picks are Bae, Belle … and Henry. So he’s sacrificing himself. But Pan made the agreement, and has to let them go.
Then I woke up. 🙂
Very unlikely, but in my dream it was a great scene, and it’s my headcanon now until proven otherwise.
