If she doesn’t resemble the Disney version somewhat (even in just a couple of minor ways, such as looks, and the fact that she’s a fairy) then A&E may as well create an original character, because all she would be is a character with the name Maleficent, instead of being Maleficent herself

But she did resemble the cartoon in a unique way. She still had the staff and horns (on her crown) and everything else was added creativity that made OUAT maleficent DISTINCT from the cartoon maleficent. Even Regina doesn’t completely resemble the Evil Queen from the cartoon in the beginning but her costumes (specifially her high collars) made the conection. All I’m saying is, Malefixent had a unique design, love it or hate it it was different from anything we had seen from the character. Now you can put OUAT Mal, Angelina Jolie Mal, Disney Cartoon Mal, and Kristin Chenoweth Mal all together and you got clones of one another. OUAT Mal doesn’t stand out anymore. Give her a costume change, but give it a spin. Ursula doesn’t look like a giant octo-lady. Cruella doesn’t look like a walking corpse (I’m sorry, Cruella looks like a zombie to me in the cartoon) so why does Mal have to be Jolie 2.0.

To me it just always looked silly and didn’t make the character seem all that threatening.

Which, to me, worked because Mal on OUAT wasn’t threatening at all. Her personality was different than that of the cartoon and she actually seemed like a good person or a person who was trying to be good. She even encouraged Regina to move on with her life. Idk. Like I said in another thread too, I’m fine with them givng her a costume change, my issue is that her new costume seems to be a copy of the film version of Maleficent and I am not okay with that. Its a nice costume, sure, but I would rather they had been creative and came up with another original design that would fit the character and the purpose she has (if she is supposed to be evil now it would dark and black as opposed to pink and purple) that didn’t look like something we’d already seen a few months ago. Looking online, there are tons of variations of cartoon maleficents costume design that look NOTHING like either the cartoon version or the film version and they all work. But hey *shrug*

I actuallly like Ursula’s costume and how…schizophrenic it looks xD the crown is the only element I think is a bit much but I also didn’t like Ingird’s costume and it grew on me. Come to think of it, I think I originally didn’t like crown on Regina when she was urusla too at first. But yeah, I like it more than I like Angelina Jo–*cough*… I mean Kristin’s Malefixent costume. But atleast she will have more dresses so thats nice. Cruella better be the queen of fashion on this darn show though. This is Eduardo’s time to really bring out all he creativity he has for this character 😀

Morgana is her sister, and their unamed mother appeared in a deleted scene of TLM2 (in Morgana’s cut song, Gonna Get My Wish Tonight). So perhaps. Although I wonder how I could possibly manage seeing a whole family of octopans on screen at once T_T ick..

I like how they have Ursula’s hair all… Reaching upward? It reminds me of how it is in the Broadway version of TLM

I believe it was to give the effect of how hair just flails underwater. But yeah, I’m loving her costume so far. As for Malefixent, while I think I’m the only one who isn’t excited for her costume change (I liked her original design because it was unique and I feel like they are trying to copy the movie v_v) I must say I am extremely excited for her return… And what little I see of the dress, I like. *hiding girl-crush for Kristin Van Staten* 😛

@Pom Yes,Ursula was based on a drag performer named Divine, who was originally set to voice her but died unfortunately. Ursula, Cruella, and Mal are all really awesome villains. Making any one of them, or all of them LBT would be great. But then again, making all of them LGBT might be a bad ideas since they are villains (I know some people got upset about Pan/Felix having that subtext but being villains and called demons)
