There has always been something about her that urks me. She did have a choice.
but I believe her actions stemmed from the same dark place of hopelessness.
But that’s my point. If her life is that terrible and that unbearable that it generates that kind of extreme hopelessness……then why leave a child behind to face it while you escape it? That doesn’t make sense to me. Even as I rewatch the scene where Rump confronts her right before he kills her, I feel more in tune with his feelings as opposed to hers.
It doesn’t make sense to compare leaving a child with a loving parent to leaving a child with an abusive parent.
I’m talking about the home life. Shes leaving her child in a negative environment. One so bad that she felt she had to run away from it. Its not like Milah could have been thinking “Oh, well Baelfire will have a good life, Rump will provide for him, and he will be happy.” She wasn’t. It’s selfish, what she did. Her regretting it doesn’t mean she didn’t have the choice. It just feels like shes putting her own needs above that of her child and I don’t think that’s a natural thing for a mother. So sure, she may have regretted it as said below:
Rumple: “You left him!” Milah: “And there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t feel sorry about that.”
But for the next, what? Like 12 years she sure as heck wasn’t steering that boat back to actually do anything about it. For all she knew, Bae could have been starving dead in a dirty shack while she was living a pirates life. Or worse, torn to pieces in the Ogre’s war. These were both very real possibilities at the time she left. Milah abandoned him. Milah condemned him to a terrible life knowingly and willingly. In the words of Rumpel: Sorry isn’t enough.
They can claim they talked about coming back all they like. But Baelfire was a teenager or preteen and they still hadn’t resurfaced so far as we know.
The more I think about this situation, the more it gets me heated. Milah really does just tick me off. She’s entirely in the wrong and telling me woeful stories about how she felt doesn’t change that. I would understand and perhaps empathize more if we had more backstory and scenes, but still.
All this I’m talking about in the context of the show nand not in real life though where I think there have been quite a few cases of parents who deserve the death penalty for things they’ve done or allowed to happen to their children, but also agree that there are things we should to do to offer aid, support, and help prevent parents from making bad decisions and all that good stuff. But this is OUAT and if Bae was my child, i’d have crushed Milah’s heart, swept up the ashes, made tea with it and forced Killian to watch as I drank it in front of him and made puns

Idc what tragic backstory she hails from. At that point that love between a mother and son should have held strong for her. She must have seen Bae as a burden to the life she wanted and the life Rump couldn’t give her. I don’t see any valid excuse for her choice, no matter how unhappy she was.

Emma left her son. Snowing left their daughter. Rumple left his son. Why does nobody give Milah the benefit of the doubt and assume that maybe she was suffering so much, that she HAD to leave for her own sanity? As you say, she had to have been in a very dark place. Also, are you saying that this action is worse than mass murders? Because other characters have been forgiven for those.
I disagree. Emma was in jail and Snowing had no choice but to leave their daughter or let their entire family be cursed for possibly all eternity. Milan chose to leave her kid behind to chase a better life. She didn’t have to. That’s entirely different. What Rumpel did was also bad but he spent centuries trying to get back to Bae. The entire setup of the show is because of Rump trying to find his son again. I understand Milan being in an unhappy relationship. I will never understand how she as a mother could live her child to go live a pirates life. I mean let’s pretend Milan was a real life woman in a real relationship where Rump was actually physically and emotionally abusive. Imagine if she had the chance to escape (with her child) but just booked it out of there alone. Her situation is bad but damn, girl.
and I’m not saying it’s worse or that it’s not worse than mass murderer. Both are terrible. But I think I’d be more willing to forgive Milah if we knew for a fact that she actually was going to come back for Bae. I believe Hook told Bae that they THOUGHT about coming back for him. For me it seems like Milah had moved out and moved on toward a new life with no regard for her child. And given the connection between a mother and her child that does seem way worse than killing someone you have no connection to at all. I’m not saying she can’t be forgiven but at that point it doesn’t seem like she really feeling bad about what she did. Sure she wanted to come back but would she? If her life was so terrible that she had to flee it, then she’s condemning her son to that life without his mother. It’s very Cora-ish.
Does she deserve to die? Well I wouldn’t want many mothers like her walking around.

I was posting in the Rump/Milah thread and was saying how I would have liked scenes where we actually see what attracted Milah to Hook and vice versa, what made HER someone he loved as opposed to a random woman to sleep with and then I started wondering maybe if we did see that we would learn maybe she and Emma are somehow similar (this show loves its parallels).Perhaps next season we’d get to see that. Shame we didn’t get to see it during the Underworld arc. This show is filled with such missed potential

What completely makes her unsympathetic for me is that she left her child. I can understand wanting a better life for herself, or a different mate or what have you but to leave your own son for that is unforgivable. I like the scene with Rump/Hook/Milah on the ship right before he chops off Hook’s hand. I think he could have let her go if it was just him she left and not batted an eye. But her son? Her flesh and blood! Her living spawn! Her little hatchling!

As for whether or not she loved Rump? Idk. Would love to see more flashbacks of them honestly. I think I would believe it was all arranged. Weren’t a lot of opportunities for non-magical/non-royal women in the EF. Guess sometimes you got to stick with the spinster who can put bread on the table at night and learn to love him. I don’t think Milah had true love for rump, or real strong genuine feelings for him, but I agree that whatever she did feel for him definitely vanished when he could no longer provide a basic standard of living for her anymore. But still…..can we just imagine what kind of dark place she was in for her to justify leaving her child? If she had fallen in love with Hook, knew he had some kind of stability (I mean, I know hes a pirate but still) then surely she’d have snagged him along with her??!?!?
I’d love to see flashbakcs of:
– Rumpel and Milah meeting.
– More time shared between Milah and Hook so we can understand why they feel for eachother so deeply as opposed to her being another women to sleep with.

I confess I never read the books, but I didn’t really like the movies except for the first one. And even then, they already did a season about a snow queen. I don’t want to see another season where the villain is the white witch (basically another snow queen). I think the time to bring in Narnia and the white witch was season 4a when they brought Elsa on the show. But the last thing I want now is for OUAT to travel to Narnia.
I think they could have found some way to make Ingrid the white witch, or reveal that Elsa BECOMES the white witch. I agree that the time for Narnia as an arc has passed but I wouldn’t mind a few more shout outs and nods to it. Like we’d find out the bow snow whites owns is actually the one Susan (or was it Lucy?) was given by Santa. It never misses too. Or we find out that Gepetto (or Geppetto’s papa) constructed the original wardrobe to Narnia.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this curses’s caster did the same, and he/she has a personal vendetta against Hook, Rump, and Regina (who doesn’t afterall?) and used the curse to bring them all there even if the ywere in storybrook.
