They are pure and untainted. I highly believe they and their belief is they key. Their faith. I’m sure that plays into Pan wanting Henry. He wants to harness his belief and use it as his own, possibly because he no longer qualifies as a child

Perhaps that’s why the mermaids attacked. They are good sometimes but recognize Hooks ship and were getting revenge for when he killed their queen. Just thought id say.
