I was guessing the Doctor is actually a fairytale character of some sort as well.
Henry earlier in the episode asked who Lucy would say she was and I felt like that was a clue/hint. Doctor whale was Dr. Frankenstein.
Maybe she is the Bride Of Frakenstein. Fitting given resurrection was kind of the theme going on here. Maybe they need her hair for some kind of ritual. The hair of someone who was dead but lives again might be useful.

Rumpel seeks to be mortal again so that one day, some day, he will die and be reunited with his wife. But also he doesn’t want the dark one dagger to continue to effect other people and cause further evil. The easiest way for him to die would simply be for him to allow someone to kill him but he doesn’t want that.
I admit I barely recall anything with the guardian situation though so ??♂️
I understand him wanting to be able die. It’s a curse to remain here forever and everyone you could ever love moves on from you.
And god forbid he allows someone to kill him and he ends up trapped in the vault of the dark one (since Nimue was able to bring the other dark ones with her when she appeared to Emma I’m guessing that’s exactly what happens)

I say his character has something to do with Brave (will o’ the wisps) and he too is some kind of fae. Also he will become good and his love will incite Maleficent to become good and grow back to her normal state.
