I don’t see it, but it is now 01.00 am in the morning for us both. Holland and Austria has the same time zone, so mybe if I look tomorrow again, I see it.
I have seen the cane and the dagger together, where nobody was around, so for me they are not the same, but duplicity on a short time. I cannot say no by this show. ( This is the reason why I love the show). The same for the wands he had collected. I saw them in another place.
For the digging, we cannot be sure that he was doing it before Emma cames. I hope we find that out shortly. I think he try to find all the stuff after he get his memory. He made sure he was at the right place when the Course hit and found a way that Emmas name was stucked in his head (little bit creepy, but useful) to awake before the others so he had time for digging and planning for the future.
After all writing you have convinced me that the cane is maybe something special. Altough I am not convinced it is the dagger or a wand, but maybe it was from the wood of his old stab (something personal comes to Storybrook or the one he was hitting the shelve at the dark castle or it is like a stab Cora was using that a part of ET was protected. He showed her magic, so it would be possibile that the cane is also such a stab amd come later into handy)

The course trapped all of them in a land without magic. Regina thought that she could so take all the Happy Endings away (No Blue fairy, no Dark One and she as Mayor reigns all of them and watch how miserable they are), but she didn’t knew that there is a complete other reason behind the course, because as we all know the course is designed as portal that Rumple can go were he wants since 300 years ago. (Carlyle said it on a interview) It was not important to be limb or not. It doesn’t matter. The only things that matters to go to this speific realm.
He don’t get magic back, when he hears her name. He get his memory back. Two different things.
Mr. Gold is the lawyer of this town, so he was needed for the administration. Regina said it was Mr. Gold , who brought Henry there, but somebody from the outside world have to bring him, so would not be the one who choose (but that is suggesting), because he cannot go outside. (Maybe Pinocchio or it somebody else…). We don’t know the complete story yet. Hopefully we will know it shortly.It is her name that brings his memory back. He make it that way by himself. In the first episode he says: “Emma what a lovely name.” and goes outside with a smile. This is the second he get his memory back.
He plans things out to a ridiculous degree, why would he do anything that reverts him back to a criple? To have a weakness that would leave him vulnerable? Sorry I don’t buy that.
You asked the right question, because we don’t understand either that he don’t heal himself. But I don’t think that his leg is his weakness. Maybe he try to fool evryone that he is not dangerous, only a old man with no joy in his life.or as you said it could be that simple
Or I am overthinking it and Robert Carlyle just uses it as an acting tool to give him that aristocratic gentleman look… It sure is working *drools*

Lil’Red I think it is a great idea. I mean if it is a Neal/Bae story it could be definitely a city name (Talahassee, Manhattan). This is not a odd idea.

I mean the one, who enacted the course was Regina and I think Regina would be cruel enough to give him the name Lacey, after all that was her HAPPY ENDING and this was her revenge for his “Pleases” in the contract. He said he wanted comfort, not a good name.

In the first season, it is only possible to make magic wiith magic that is already in Storybrooke that was brought fom ET. It is also understandable that Rumple let his leg like it is, because besides Regina he is the only one remembering (He remembers after Emma say her name to him). So it would be not a good time to heal him at this point even if he has some magic left, he wouldn’t spend it for that. In season two are complete other rules. Magic is there, but he is still not healing it, altough everybody knows him (and not like him) and know that the Dark One wasn’t limb. His attitude is staying Mr. Gold and not Rumpelstiltskin at all (no giggling, funny voices. He is the complete opposite of Rumpels behaviour calm and civilzed) and of course always going and looking like he was Rumpelstiltskin pre the Dark One. The question is why? Are this personal reason (Remind him of his old self, before the power corrupts him, trying to be the better man, don’t want to be the Dark One again and avoid magic that cause him to give in more to his Dark Side, staying like that, that Bae will think magic is taken by his father….) or is the prize of magic in this specific case to high? Also it could be that he doesn’t need the cane, but why the show that he is still lame. (I mean Belle tries hard that he his more honesty. Why to risk a fight for that he is know healthy)
And we are sure that he has the ability to heal. (He healed Baelfire,Dr. Frankenstein, Belle)
