Emma going to rescue Hook from the underworld sounds a lot like the tale of Orpheus and Eurydice, with the genders reversed. I think we’ll see some re-imagined version of that.
Since we’ve already seen Charon, will we see Pluto too? I thought it might be appropriate to punctuate the question with a recent New Horizons’ photo of Pluto and Charon:

I think the heart-shaped region of Tombaugh Regio visible on Pluto makes for nice symbolism of Emma going to save her love.

April 13, 2015 at 8:05 pm in reply to: FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS from … 4 X 17 HEART OF GOLD #301502timespacerParticipantFor some reason the youtube link I put in this post never showed up, so I’m going to try editing the original post and reinserting the link. While I’m at it, I’ll fix the incorrect Dustin Hoffman movie reference I made due to my faulty memory. Finally, I added a paragraph about a really distant connection to Lana Parilla in the video.
Overall, I liked this episode.
I especially liked the way they worked in the New York references like the homage to Midnight Cowboy (“I’m walking here!”)and also Robin Hood recreating the horseback scene from the opening of the TV show McCloud (I found a clip for comparison) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0tB-GdSC24
Most of all, I liked the fact that we finally began to be shown a little explanation for Rumple’s recent actions. I’m hopeful we’ll see more of how Bae’s death and Zelena’s control drove him to regress as he did in this season. Furthermove, the return of Zelena may be just the thing to put him back on the road toward redemption. It’s unthinkable that he’s going to just happily cooperate with her; I suspect that even within the terms of his deal, he’ll find some way to outsmart her and that will mean that he will again be in an unlikely alliance with the heroes, however uncomfortable with it both parties are. At least he will be fighting on the right side again.
I loved the surprise of Zelena’s return. I suspect, however, that she is not long for this world. After all she did before, the fact that she is doing even more now means the writers are not too likely to give her a shot at redemption. I bet she will go out in a blaze of glory, probably at the hand of Rumple (perhaps saving Belle or someone else in the process.)
The only thing I might count as a dislike is the fact that I’m still uneasy about this whole Author storyline, but I am willing to be patient and give them the benefit of the doubt. Hoefully they will pull it off. One minor quibble: when the Author was trying to make a new pen, why did Rumple refer to it as a quill? A quill by definition would be made from a feather and I don’t think we’ve ever seen the Author use a quill – always a wooden pen with a metal nib.
There’s a weak but amusing coincidence that (sort of) relates Lana Parilla to the above video. Notice at one point in the opening there is a sign in the background which reads “Pure Wool” In Spanish, that would be “Lana Pura” and of course Lana’s real name could be translated into English as “Wool Grill”. 8>)

It reminded me of the opening of the second episode of the first season in which we saw a similar montage set to music, along with the clock reading 8:15, of course.
My favorite scene was Rumple changing his clothes and discarding his cane as hewalked across the town line, especially after seeing him so helpless before Cruella and Ursula at the town line.
I also liked Rumple’s use of the computer. I disagree with the assumption that he couldn’t fake the email address. The “From” label in email addresses is not verified by the mail protocol. That makes it trivial to fake the sender of an email – that’s why there are so many phishing emails. We know that Mr. Gold was adept at “working the system” for 28 years in Storybrooke so I’m sure he would be able to handle such an easy task. Providing fake web pages for Belle to find in her searches would take a bit more effort but it’s still not that hard.
I’m really intrigued by the idea that Emma has the potential for the darkest heart. Perhaps there is some property of being the Savior that gives her both the greatest possibility for good and the greatest possibility for darkness.
My biggest dislike is not really specific to this episode but is a dislike from the first half of the season that still wasn’t addressed in this episode. I really disliked Rumple’s sudden 180 degree reversal to evil after he sacrificed himself so willingly in season 3. To be fair, I can see how the combined experience of losing Bae and being a slave to Zelena could have made him more determined to free himself from the dagger but they never *showed* us any of those character changes; we shouldn’t have to guess. I’m assuming it was just a matter of not having enough time and maybe now they will show us that. I also try to remember that we don’t know Rumples’s real plan, beyond the fact that he wanted back into Storybrooke. Much of what he told Cruella and Ursula may have been lies (as usual.)January 6, 2015 at 7:32 pm in reply to: Once Musical Episode: What Should Be Your Character's Song? #294552timespacerParticipantFor Regina, When Will the Good Apples Fall? by the Seekers:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wowT95tkesk
timespacerParticipantyou might be amused to know that I read that William Shatner is a big fan of OUaT and he sometimes exchanges messages with the cast and producers on Twitter
Tis true. We once speculated he would have a role in the S3 finale since he live tweeted it.
I know this sounds silly, but I want to see him in a cameo as a future grown-up version of Henry so he can say “Mom!” to Emma since Jennifer Morrison played Captain Kirk’s mother in the J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot movie.
timespacerParticipantMy favorite Miniseries is definitely From the Earth to the Moon. I never get tired of that series.
How could I have forgotten to include From the Earth to the Moon in my previous post? It’s my all-time favorite series! I guess its been so long since it first aired that I don’t really think of it as “TV” in the current sense, but I have the DVDs and rewatch it often. It just keeps getting better!
timespacerParticipantWelcome! I’m a big Trek fan myself (especially TOS and TNG, but I like all versions.) If you just watched Season 3, episode 10, you are in the midst of a couple of my favorite OUaT episodes: 3×09 – “Save Henry” and 3×11 – “Going Home.”
As a Star Trek fan, you might be amused to know that I read that William Shatner is a big fan of OUaT and he sometimes exchanges messages with the cast and producers on Twitter. I’m not on Twitter myself, so I know no more about that. Still, I keep hoping he’ll do a cameo on Once sometime!
timespacerParticipantThe surname Fisher might also be a reference to Steveston itself, which is a fishermen town.
Very likely. I believe Sarah’s was on Moncton Street, which is where they do most of the filming (the library, Granny’s, etc…) and it looks like it is within sight of the cannery and the fishing boats.

My question is ….. Does NIELSON RATINGS adjust for multi – TV families? Hubby watches the football games …. rest of family usually watches ONCE. HOW would they account of multiple TVs.
.
8 . . . ONCE UPON A TIME … 3.17 ( 18-49) 43.94% ….. 9.12 mill … 28.8%
They did back in the 1990s, so I would assume they still do. I was a “Nielson family” back in the 90s and they gave me a form to fill out recording what was watched on every TV in the household (which was only one in my case.) Once a week, I would list the programs I had watched and mail it in.
