Good luck watching them in timeline order Weedith. I tried it and got so confused.
Hmmmmm. You would almost need to separate out FTL since SB seems to be going in chronological order by episode. I guess the written timeline is the best resource.

He actually worked for an hour to find a way to get a very specific Rumple giggle as the text message tone on my phone.
He’s a keeper! 😀

I did notice Rum drinking from Chip when he was talking to Belle so EQ could have seen how it became sort of an inside joke for them. That makes sense.

Because how did she know that the chipped cup was special to Rumple? If she didn’t know about the special connection between Rumple and that cup wouldn’t she just steal his cane or money or something like that?
That’s a really good question. I have been going on the assumption that she had Moe steal an assortment of things and then made sure that Emma recovered everything but the cup, as part of her attempt to determine if Gold knew who he was. If it was just another object, then it is unlikely that Gold would have noticed, or if he did (meticulous person that he is) he would not have gotten his knickers in a twist over one broken piece of china. As I said, I assumed Regina held that out as a test, and then knew she could use it as a bargaining chip (pardon the pun) to get him to admit his name.
BUT how on earth would she know the significance of the cup? I don’t see Rumple sitting down with her over tea and getting misty-eyed as he explained why the cup somehow reminded him of his lost love. I suppose she might have been back to the dark castle and seen it on its pedestal and realized it was important to him without really knowing why. I might just post this as a separate topic because now it is going to bug me until I can come up with a good explanation!

I am totally fine with their non-chronological mode of story-telling, but it does make it a little more complicated to figure out which conversations happened after which events and what characters knew or didn’t know at which times. That said, I implicitly trust these writers to have thought all of that through and not make huge continuity errors. Once the DVDs are available I fullly intend to go back and rewatch, probably with a written timeline in hand. Or better yet, watch the episodes in chronological order of events (not order of airing). I may actually be able to do that before the DVDs, as my sister has all but the first 3 episodes DVR’ed and I have made her swear on her life that she will not erase them before I have had a chance to watch them!
March 2, 2012 at 5:30 pm in reply to: Why do Regina/EQ and Gold/Rumple REALLY continue to “play” o #138045weedithParticipantI don’t get any sort of romantic-entanglement vibe from them. And rumplegoldfankristi summed up my sentiments on that to a tee.
I see them as no more or less than the perfect foils for each other. They both recognize and grudgingly respect the other’s power. EQ sought out Rumple, as did pretty much everybody else in the kingdom, because he was well known to be the most powerful person in the land. I would be very interested to know what EQ paid for the curse in the first place. Did she place a custom order or was this just something Rumple had dreamed up and had on the shelf in his curse shop? And what did Rumple require as payment? We know what the payment was for telling her what she did wrong (apparently tech support doesn’t come with the purchase of the curse), but what did she have to give up to get it way back when, before she traded it to Malificent?
I know I have gone way off-topic, but I have a mind that wanders. Sue me!

I posted a theory that maybe Regina before she was the Evil Queen, she was Rumple’s wife.
Can you direct me to that discussion? Or give me an idea why you think this. I hadn’t give much thought to that possibility so I am curious.

What really bothers me with the whole Moe thing, is that it took him so long to do it? The time started flowing months ago and yet he goes against Moe in that moment?? The storytellers should’ve built up something. Seems rather random. =/
I think what triggered the whole beating scenario was the burglary. Gold repo’ed Moe’s van, but that was pretty much all in a day’s work for Mr. Gold. Regina used that to manipulate Moe into stealing from Gold, and it was the stealing of the cup that set Gold off and made him go all Preston Brooks on Moe. (A cookie for anybody who gets that reference! 😀 )
I think the timing was all on Regina. She saw an opportunity to use Moe, and she really wanted to figure out if Gold knew who he really was. Maybe also wanted to see how emotionally invested he still was in Belle.
As for How Rumpel didn’t know–I’ll buy Nightreader’s theory that EQ locked Belle up and spelled her family to believe the suicide story. OR maybe she got Belle’s father to flee and go into hiding, telling him that Rumpel was coming after him. Then if R went looking for Belle he would have found her father’s estate abandoned, which would fit the scenario. Gold definitely believes she’s dead. When he said “she’s gone forever–she’s not coming back” I think he meant not in this world or any world. It also explains shy Rumpel didn’t care if the whole world got cursed. He really had nothing to lose. Or so he thought.
March 1, 2012 at 5:46 am in reply to: The two sides of Rumplestiltskin and the Balance of Power #137977weedithParticipantI totally got a pot-kettle vibe when Gold was raging at Moe and said “You had her love and you shut her out.”. It seemed like he was trying to convince himself that “It wasn’t my fault.” definitely a lot of unresolved guilt feelings there (nurtured along by Her Majesty of course).
I do wonder why Rumpel didn’t do any fact-checking in FTL. He called EQ out as a liar when she first told him but, what, then he never confirmed anything? Seems like he should have paid Belle’s father a visit back in FTL when he would have actually understood why he was being caned.
March 1, 2012 at 3:10 am in reply to: Why do Regina/EQ and Gold/Rumple REALLY continue to “play” o #137974weedithParticipantI don’t see them being related (as in blood relations), but I do think there is a lot more to their history than we have seen up to now. Hopefully we will get that filled out in future episodes. In “Skin Deep,” Rumpel says, “You’ll never be more powerful than me,” which indicates to me that she has been working on deposing him for a long time. Does she know where his power comes from? Does she know how he got it? Would she consider taking it the same way, and getting herself cursed and ugly? (I highly doubt that one!) It seems clear that Rumpel is the one who has the power, and EQ tries to make him wield it to serve her purposes. So far Rumpel/Gold has done that, but I think there is a limit. I expect we’ll see more of them pushing each other in upcoming episodes, now that they are out in the open that they both know their true identities.
