I think it’s normal for the office to be always open. Aren’t police stations, etc always open? It is strange that she doesn’t have anyone to look after it when she’s out, though.
Normal for the police to always be open but not for prisoners to just be out for everyone to have access to. But then, there’s no bathroom for the prisoner either so……..
[adrotate group="5"]weedithParticipantI think that Regina loves Henry as much as she is capable of love. She has already proved herself to be a far superior parent than her own mother (just by not using freaky magic on Henry — so far as we have seen). It seems to me that I have seen what looks like genuine hurt in her eyes when Henry clearly favors Emma over her. And honestly, why would Henry NOT favor Emma? She is hip and cool, and has never told him to eat his vegetables or clean his room, has never taken him to the doctor to get a shot or made him release the snake he caught and decided to keep as a pet. Emma is a buddy while Regina has done all of the nitty-gritty parenting stuff for the past 10 years.
As rumplegoldfan pointed out, in the real world, where we all didn’t know that the mother is an evil queen who has cursed the entire town out of spite and vengeance, the situation would be viewed much differently. Archie’s threat that Regina was going to somehow be in a custody battle holds about as much legal water as Mr. Gold magically making his assault charges disappear. Emma has zero rights to Henry. If it was determined that Regina was an unfit mother (which being cold and manipulative doesn’t even come close to sufficient), Henry would go into foster care and it is doubtful that Emma, with no permanent residence and little job history, would be very unlikely to be considered as a placement for him.
Legal realities aside, it will be interesting to learn the why and how of Regina getting Henry in the first place. My guess is that she was looking for someone to fill that void in her heart that Malificent predicted. And as we discussed in another thread, I think Regina will only be able to truly love Henry when she lets go of her hatred of Snow and learns to forgive. I am really hoping for some redemption there and not just Henry and Emma riding off into the sunset together. I would love to see them add some complexity (layers, if you will) to the Regina/Henry/Emma dynamic by having Henry realize that he does have some feeling for Regina and that, in her own way, she does love him. And also for Emma to really blow it with Henry at some point because she sees Henry more in a buddy/big sister way than a responsible adult/parent way.
(Okay, in the interest of full disclosure I should say that I am an adoptive parent and the whole adoptive-mother-as-evil-witch and biological-mother-as-savior narrative is not my favorite!! 😆 )

Can I be keeper of Ginnifer Goodwin? Not to be creepy or anything but she’s beautiful….. and she won’t reply to my tweets Can we keep more than one? If so I’d like the correct valentines day card to give to my sweet Ginnifer, as well as the flowers Dr. Whale got her. I’m going to give them to her instead.
For the Official Keeper thread, I think it’s best to stick to fictional people and things in the OUaT world. Things could get a little sticky if we range into real life…….You know what happens when people try to leave Storybrooke. 😉
I’ve got you down for Dr. Whale’s flowers for MM, though. Let me know if anything else strikes your fancy!

Oh, can I be the keeper of Rumple’s boat? 😀
Not sure which boat you mean, but I put you down for it!
weedithParticipantRumplegoldfan, why do you think Rumple is interested in redeeming Regina? It would be a great story, but I’m not sure what his motivation would be. I don’t know that he is a generally magnanimous person who wants to help a fallen soul. Do you think their pasts are intertwined in ways we don’t know? Would it be atonement for some past sin against her, or some part he played in her becoming evil? Is it because he feels he has to do something big as a penance in order to redeem himself? It is an interesting theory but I’m wondering what you base it on.
I also like your observations about the part children play in characters’ motivations. I always thought LOST was a bit deficient in this area, seriously underestimating what parents will do for their children (case in point—that Jin would choose to die with Sun, and Sun would allow it, leaving their child an orphan to be raised by Sun’s abusive father). OUaT has a more realistic grasp on the parent/child bond, imho. The Regina/Henry/Emma triangle is very complex and will hopefully continue to be so. I will be very disappointed if they fall back on the DNA-donation trumps 10-years-of-raising.
weedithParticipantWhat about forgiveness breaking the curse? There are a lot of people carrying around cartfuls of baggage so pretty much everybody has something to forgive, or be forgiven for. And then there is the issue of forgiving yourself. What about Regina forgiving Snow, and vice versa. What about Kathryn forgiving David. Belle and/or Bae forgiving Rumplestiltskin. Rumple forgiving Zoso. James forgiving his father, King Whatshisname. Henry forgiving Emma for giving him up. Emma forgiving herself. The list goes on and on.
True love is named as the most powerful magic of all, but I suggest that forgiveness is even more powerful.

So she would have been the one to reveal Rumple’s name to everyone (which is why everyone knows it now.)
I don’t think that’s true. Everyone who wanted to know, would know Rumpel’s name. He always gave his name! Each and every single time the person he was dealing with knew his name …
The two don’t have to be mutually exclusive. Rumple may have gone incognito for a while after acquiring the dark curse, but then once Cora found out his name, possibly sharing that powerful knowledge with Regina, he didn’t bother keeping it secret any more. They still give lip service to the idea that people’s names hold power (the guard told Snow and Charming not to tell Rumple their names when they first went to visit him). But you are correct that it no longer seems that if you know Rumple’s name you can control him.

Ok, this is going to sound twisted, but a minor theory that originated with hjbau has got me thinking that Mr. Gold will end up killing someone by the end of the season. And personally, I think it’ll be August. And on top of that, I have a sneaking suspicion that August is also Baelfire. Maybe Mr. Gold gets a hold of the dagger and ends up stabbing August, and in August’s dying moments reveals that he’s Bae.
😥 Not sure I could take that!!! But the fact that we did not see any FTL in the previews makes me believe even more that August is Bae, and they didn’t want to give that away in the preview. I do think Rumple and his son had a falling out after the Dark Curse. I just hope they are able to resolve their issues before the series ends.

Also, can I keep Archie’s therapy sessions? Or is that too unspecific? If so, I can wait on this one.
.Why don’t you pick a particular client, just to not make it too broad, okay? 😀
weedithParticipant“There was. There was a son. I lost him — as I did his mother.”
Rumple says this to Belle in “Skin Deep.”. Does this jibe with Cora being Bae’s mother? I just don’t see how that can be, not because of the time passage (because Cora is a witch and may not age as others do) but because Rumple had Bae before he got power and started making deals.
weedithParticipantGreat analysis rumplegoldfan. I like the idea that Regina blames Snow not only for losing her love, but for who she became as a result. Even she recognizes that she has done “unspeakable things.” I have heard a lot of speculation that Regina will end up killing Cora, and I think this is a good bet. What if Regina’s line of thinking goes basically, “Snow prompted my mother to destroy my love and break my heart. This caused me to kill my mother, and what kind of monster kills her own mother? A=B, B=C…..Snow made me kill my mother and turned me into a monster (or my mother, which is the same thing).” Twisted logic to be sure, but I think it fits Regina’s thinking. Following that thought, Snow also caused Regina to killer her father, whom she did love, and who loved her. This was after she had already decided to enact the curse, but I can still see Regina putting that on Snow.
I would love to see Regina admit to all of this at some point. Maybe Snow herself, or Emma, confronts Regina (once it is all out in the open) and says, “You did all of this just because you lost your love? Do you think you are the only person who ever had a broken heart?” And Regina says, “Of course not. I used to be a good person and now my heart is a blackened little cinder and I kill without a thought, even people I care about. That is what she did to me.”
