All the background noise disappeared until Emma placed the shawl back on his shoulders. I don’t know whether or not it was meant to indicate that he was losing his memory when he wasn’t wearing the shawl, but it certainly was a powerful effect.
LOVED that effect. It literally had me anxious for Gold to get his shawl back! And the way Emma was trying to hurry through, never taking her eyes off of him, was pretty amazing. I mentioned in another thread that Emma just can’t help herself when it comes to taking care of people. If you look back, she does it with everyone she comes across who needs help in any way. That’s what makes her a hero.
Back to the shawl coming off, I think that from the instant the shawl was gone, until Emma put it back on him, his Rumpelstiltskin memory was gone completely, and he was stumbling through because he was confused and stunned. I see it as one second he was walking into Granny’s Inn to collect rent, and the next he’s in an airport going through security, dazedly complying with what’s going on around him while his mind races, “WTH is going on?!”
I’m not sure if they’re implying that as long as the shawl gets back to him, his memories will return, or if Emma somehow, knowingly or perhaps not, did something to help him. She did say, “I won’t let that happen,” but she could have just said that to convince him to take it off.
I can’t help but imagine what it’s like when he needs to take a shower.
Emma: “Okay Henry, stand outside the bathroom here and take Gold’s shawl, then shove him inside and tell him to shower and once he comes out, give the shawl back, got it?”
Gold: “Can’t I just shower WITH the shawl?”Also…why couldn’t they just drive to Manhattan? They made it to Boston, it just seems like it would have been easier to avoid the hassle of the airport. But whatevs.
[adrotate group="5"]wewerecursedParticipantThere were some pretty darn good ones in this episode!
David: “If anything happens to them…”
Gold: “You’ll what? Cross the border? And David Nolan will hunt me down in his animal rescue van?” (I love you, Rumpel!!)Snow: “You like the holster, huh?” (the way she said it, lol)
Snow: “I….uh…um…She’s KIND of out of town!”
The ENTIRE running conversation, but especially:
Leroy: “So you’re David, James, and Charming?! So what, David is like a middle name?!”
David: “No, it’s my NAME name!”
Leroy: “Well I’m just gonna call you whatever I “darn” well please, is that okay?!”
David: “Sure, Leroy…”
(Only now I picture David’s full name being James David Charming. 😆 )Emma: “Are you sure that shawl is going to work?”
Gold: “Well if it doesn’t…we’re all going to have problems.”Emma: “You have to put your shoes in the bin.”
Gold: “How terribly uncivilized.” (I agree! LOL)Jerk: “Haven’t you ever been on a plane before?”
Gold: “Have you ever been impaled on a cane before?!”Henry: “Guys! There’s a Cinnabon over here!” (My kind of kid. He has his priorities straightened out.)
wewerecursedParticipantThis wasn’t my favorite episode, yet in had a couple of my favorite moments of the season!
Favorite:
Two words. Robert. Carlisle. Can that man be any more perfect? His range of emotions while stepping into the real world was amazing. Sure, he’s lived in our world for 28 years, but in a bubble. Electronics seem to be mostly restricted to the 80s, and he’s never experienced anything as horrifying as TSA. He’s used to being in control, he visited places like Frankenstein’s world without blinking an eye because he has powerful. Now he can’t use his magic, he feels weak, he isn’t feared by all. His fear was so real! Taking his anger out on the poor unsuspecting public bathroom was almost as intense as the scene where he beats Belle’s father with the Cane O’ Pain. I can’t wait for more of him being the fish out of water!Emma seeming to be genuinely concerned about how Gold was taking things. Like the look on her face when he had to take off his shawl, and telling him “I won’t let that happen.” Also before he goes to the bathroom she asks, “Is something wrong?” in such a sweet way. Even though she doesn’t trust him, even though he threatened her family, suddenly he’s in need and she has to protect him. It’s like she just can’t help herself, she takes care of people. Love her.
The entire running conversation where Leroy asks Charming who the heck he is, LOL! It couldn’t have been better.
The way Ginny delivered the line, “She’s KIND of out of town…” 😆
Hook asking for David’s “lovely wife” to torture him, which makes Snow do this: 🙄
Silly Snowing Flirting. They’re just so freaking adorable. “You like the holster, huh?”
I know not many people do, but I love the Belle scenes, mostly just because Emilie is doing such an amazing job. I just read the theory that maybe Belle can’t read in her cursed state?! I didn’t think of it, but looking back the way she angrily tossed the book Ruby gave her away it could make sense. What better curse for her than to not be able to read? 😥 I’m actually pretty interested in what they’re doing with her and Greg. Okay so it makes my Rumbelle feels implode, but it makes for some dang good drama.
Least:
WHAT DAVID SAID AT THE END! Could he honestly be implying that he would be okay with going back WITHOUT Emma?! No. Just no. That seems entirely out of character. He loves his family. It doesn’t matter that she’s grown up and he doesn’t know her very well, she is his daughter, and did he not just that afternoon beg Gold to protect her and Henry? I hate it. I feel like it’s just forced drama between Charming and Snow. It’s dumb. The end.January 21, 2013 at 11:33 pm in reply to: In the name of my brother Favorite & Least Favorite Moments #169510wewerecursedParticipantWow, I can’t believe all the hate I see toward the episode! In my opinion, it was by far the best of the season! I’m just thrilled that the characters finally reacted in this one, unlike last week when it was like, “Oh hai, Archie, good for you for not being dead!” The pacing was spot on, and even though there was a LOT going on, time was well spent and even the characters commented on how crazy everything was, lol. The acting was amazing, especially line delivery!
Some of my favorite moments:
The whole conversation where Charming clues Snow and Emma in about Whale bringing back Daniel. I was SO disappointed about how Charming reacted to finding out Emma has magic. This made up for it.The whole breakfast scene. I love how they talk about the night’s events like it was normal. It was like a wink to the audience that their lives are so hilariously bizarre. I laughed so hard during the exchange between Emma and Snow. As you can see by my username, I loved the We Were Cursed! Line, so I was happy about its return. 😀 I can just imagine what went through Snow’s mind when she realized she slept with Dr. Frankenstein. Emma’s head bang on her arm was the best.
Belle.
Her acting here was awesome. I’m a big Rumbeller, but I love this kind of conflict. And smashing the cup? It was so sad! And that’s why I loved it, because it was sad, and good storytelling. Besides, Gold was being super creepy in the eyes of someone who doesn’t know him. Her screaming and freak out was totally appropriate.FRANKENWOLF! I didn’t even know I shipped this until now. Now I do. I so very, very, do!
Rumpel in Viktor’s land. “Rumpel Von Shtiltskin!”
The Star Wars ringtone. (Basically Disney shouting. OURS!)
Hook’s constant string of innuendos with Emma.
Seeing Gold return to his more menacing demeanor. Though I LOVE him with Belle, I just like seeing him like this, at least for now. Like with Regina I was starting to miss the evil him! “So glad I don’t give a bleep!”
When Gold threatened the family, even throwing a frightening look Henry’s way. Again, I don’t understand the hate toward this. A) Gold is not a good person. He’s not totally evil, either, which makes him an interesting, complex character. B) He is heartbroken, scared, and furious. The threat was more likely empty, just him trying to assert some of his old, scary self. Trying to remind him that he CAN kill them all. If he had asked them to watch over Belle nicely, they would think him weak, at least he thinks they will, and there is something important he wants done. He wants more than a debt to pay to fuel Emma to help him. C) It wasn’t pleasant, but that’s good storytelling. Again.
Least favorite:
Not many. I don’t like that they appeared to have dropped the ball with Archie. Where the heck was he?
Emma questioning Greg. I agree with other who already said that it was weird, suspicious, and unrealistic. The only benefit of doubt I’ll give Emma is for one, she’s not really a cop. Never was one, and really didn’t have a whole lot training, and she was also nervous. Believing Greg’s obvious lie could have been just because it was what she wanted to hear. But still, the exchange was weird, even though the line about not worrying about the guy he hit was funny.
Red’s sudden super speed was pretty weird, too, but you know what? I’ll allow it. Cause Red is epic, and if she wants to have super speed all of a sudden, then power to her!
wewerecursedParticipantI prefer the idea that he’s just a normal guy. Making him a fairy tale character would be too easy, too obvious. No, I’m guessing he really is just a normal person, and that would be much more interesting.
wewerecursedParticipantThis was by far my favorite episode of the season, and now one of my favorites period! Line deliveries here, and even just facial expressions were amazing! My favorite lines, in no particular order, and sorry if they’re not totally correct:
David: “You can’t do this!”
Gold: “I can if you let me go…”Emma: “You’re awfully chipper for someone who failed to kill their enemy…THEN got hit by a car.”
Hook: “My hook…may I have it back? Or would you prefer a different attachment?”
Hook: “My ribs may be broken, but I assure you everything else is intact.”
(And pretty much everything Hook says to Emma because no matter what…it sounds sexual, lol!)Snow: “Ah! My nerves can’t take this! Is the surgery over yet?!”
(That line delivery was hilarious.)Whale: “I get my best watches this way. Kidding. As far as you know.”
Snow: “Maybe Doc can do it.”
Leroy: “Surgery?! HAHAHAHA! …No…”Snow: “What happened while we were gone?!” (Charming’s face! And that entire conversation was hysterical.)
Red: “I…ate…my boyfriend.” (Whale’s face!)
Emma: “In a normal town the Sheriff would go in and ask a few questions, she wouldn’t bring her parents with her.”
Charming: “She’s probably right.”
Snow: (Her face!) “We’ll be right here then.”Snow: “Thank goodness!”
Whale: “Or me.”Charming: “Quiet Leroy.”
Regina: “Henry, Emma, and the two idiots.”
(But they’re such lovable idiots!)Snow: “Captain Hook and Rumpelstiltskin got into a fight and someone got hurt.”
Emma: “We weren’t sure if Dr. Frankenstein could fix him, but he did.”
(said like it was totally normal!)And possibly the greatest conversation ever:
Henry: (his deadpan voice was perfect) “The monster had bolts, not the doctor.”
Emma: “Either way, some of us having known him,” (pointed look at Snow.) “It’s weird.”
Snow: “It’s not weird. We’re over it. We were cursed.”
(I was started to worry they actually weren’t going to bring that up! Ever since it was confirmed Whale is Frank, I’ve been thinking, oh weird! Snow slept with him!)I can’t even begin to describe my love of this episode, especially the dialogue and – gasp! Finally! – reactions!
wewerecursedParticipantWell…apparently that one “master heart” (Lancelot’s heart, maybe?) Cora pulled out was enough to awaken all of her Zombies…so I could see this happening. It would make slightly more sense than Hook pulling out Aurora’s heart without her…you know…noticing. And WAIT…the creaters have said more than once that Hook has no magic. That he has to rely on wit instead. Arg. I’m so annoyed by this plotline.
wewerecursedParticipantYeah, it was stupid. Henry wasn’t THAT hurt from going under, and his burns were easily healed by Rumplestiltskin. But granted, Rumple hinted that he could have been seriously hurt. Still, though.
I never thought to begin with that Snow could possibly awaken Charming inside the dream. I thought it was understood that she would have to get back to do it. Guess I was alone there…lol.
I had very mixed feelings about this episode. It felt way too rushed and so sloppy. There were things that I liked, mostly the stuff between Regina and Henry, and I did really like the exchange between Snow and Charming in the dream. But that I credit to the actors and awesome soundtrack, not the writing. The thing with Hook taking Aurora’s heart was STUPID! I don’t care how they end up explaining that away, it was dumb.
Two lines made the whole episode worth it for me:
“I climbed a beanstalk for this compass! Go get your own!”
And
“There’s one thing I know about your grandparents…they always find each other.” Oh, Lana Parilla! That line could not have been better delivered. You could just see her fighting to withhold a grimace and an eyeroll!wewerecursedParticipantRegina and Rumple believe that Charming has failed in reaching Snow, meaning that Cora must be coming. They just want to kill HER before she gets through, while Henry, of course, hasn’t given up hope, hence the yelling. Plus if they do go ahead with the imposter thing, that could be what is happening there. If they do that, seems to me that they’ll figure out the truth right quick when Snow can’t wake Charming!
wewerecursedParticipantHmm, you guys are intriguing me with this theory. I’m not sure how to feel about it, lol. I would like to point out though, about their wardrobes, that Goodwin has said that Snow will be more fashion forward in Storybrooke than Mary Margaret was, so that’s something. I do agree that those outfits are pretty uncharacteristic for both of them though.
